What a captivating story this was. I listened to this on audiobook, and honestly, I think I would have been a little more engaged if I was reading a physical copy of the book. It was twisty, and a little predictable at times.

I am unable to rate this book because I had the audiobook on my phone and then I had to get a new phone and it was archived. I give them 3 stars to not mess up their ratings.

You Can't Hide is a thriller, and a story of a victim not wanting to be a victim anymore. Beth and Ian want to have a child desperately. They decide to try IVF, but the only way they can fund it is to sell the family cabin in upstate New York. Ian convinces Beth to go with him to fix it up, but once she gets there, she feels uneasy. Someone has been living in the cabin, and her senses tell her that things aren't what they seem. At the same time, we meet Lizzie, a young woman who is married to an abusive doctor in Alabama. Lizzie is desperate to escape her husband. As these two stories unfold, you know they will come together, but the conclusion was still twisty and held some surprises. This was a relatively short thriller that held my attention from beginning to end. I was more invested in Lizzie's story, especially as I wanted her to get away from her psychopath of a husband. Triggers in this book include various forms of domestic violence. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Emily Durante. She is a voice actress that I have listened to many times and I enjoy her voices, expression and tone. If you enjoy this format, I recommend the audiobook, but any format will have the same sense of thrills and gripping storyline.

This is the type of book that you go along enjoying right before you go: What. Just. Happened. There are so many twists in such a short book.

There are two separate story lines that I just kept waiting to see how they would intersect. I love listening to Emily Shiner's books. There of the popcorn thriller genre which means they are short and twisty. This one played out like a movie in my head, helped with the narration of Emily Durante. She pulled me in and I never questioned a thing.

If you like twisty thrillers, you need to listen to this one.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

You Can't Hide by Emily Shiner is a gripping psychological thriller. The story follows Beth, a woman who has a dark secret from her past that she has been hiding from her husband Ian. They are desperate to have a child, and decide to sell his family cabin in upstate New York to pay for IVF. But when they arrive at the cabin, they meet Ryan, the caretaker, who is not who he claims to be. He knows Beth's secret, and he blackmails her into doing his bidding, or else he will expose her to Ian. Beth is trapped in a nightmare, and she has to make a choice between losing everything she loves, or doing something unthinkable.

This was a great book, lots of fun to listen to. The characters were interesting and the narrator was not boring, and kept my attention throughout the chapters. I liked the slow burn but it wasn't too slow as to lose my attention.

Wow! The suspense in this book was awesome! It grabbed me and drew me in from the start. There were so many moments I was yelling at the protagonist with advice to escape! I couldn’t put it down. Well done!

*Note
I originally posted my review on Goodreads in June, 2023. I’m not sure why it didn’t show up on net galley.

Enjoyed the book and the narrators. Didn’t stick with me for too long after though. I do remember being surprised by the twists at the end though!

Rather macabre story about a woman who is held prisoner in her husband's home. He makes her stay in the basement and hurts her when she is "bad". Sometimes he performs surgery on her to make her "perfect". She tries desperately to escape but all potential weapons are kept locked up and he has cameras all over the house. It get me listening, but I didn't really enjoy it.

A first for me reading this author but not my last. A quick engaging domestic suspense with two storylines that converged at the end. The audiobook narrator provided a dynamic performance that added to the story’s tense atmosphere.

The first plot arc involved domestic violence so be warned if this is a trigger for you. This arc was also OTT yet still kept the reader hanging on to every word to see how it would play out. The second arc was quite repetitive for the first few chapters and a tad annoying. It used the over used element of boy gaslights girl I.e. girl knows that something is off but boy keeps telling her there’s nothing to worry about. The ending also didn’t quite work for me. I understood what it was trying to accomplish but I had some unanswered questions that weren’t addressed.

Overall, it was a thriller that I think many readers will get pulled into and find entertaining. However, one that had a few cracks that got in the way of this being a five star book for me.. It is worth reading some other reviews for different perspectives.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

How long can a person run from their past before it just blatantly trips them? Told in dual timelines, we learn about women stepping up and getting out of their abusive situations no matter what it takes! Both plots kept me hooked and each twist made sense. There was no giant epiphany, but I didn’t feel like I was lacking anything.

The narrator did a great job differentiating the characters. I appreciated her pace as it was easily understood at a faster speed as well.

Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and author Emily Shiner for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a quick, predictable but darkly appealing read if you can block the triggers that are very apparent in this book. I was horrified by the abuse protrayed and even when I wasn't reading the book, continued to think about how dependent, unsuspecting females fall prey all the time. The POV swap between two females in danger, but in very different ways, kept my attention. I had suspicions about the characters, but the storyline never gave a timeframe for reference so it kept me guessing.
This was a good thriller and I would recommend this to someone looking for a short book containing maximum entertainment value.

The book has two stories running concurrently about Beth and Lizzie. I didn't put two and two together until later in the story, but once I did it was a shock! Definitely a great thriller and worth the read. The ending was a shock but I really like that it didn't have a negative ending.

This was a short, quick read. I’ve read a lot of thrillers and I think because of that I expect a lot from the thrillers I read. This one was engaging, but left so many things unanswered. The plot was interesting, but I feel like the book was too short to really explain the different characters motivations. The story seemed so implausible. Plus, I’m growing tired of the random family members showing up to get revenge plot line.

Sadly, the narration was the only great thing about this book. I could really feel Beth’s emotions. Beth was an interesting character, but I wish her character had had more depth.

Overall, this was a very basic thriller. Probably good for people who want a quick, short thriller with minimal depth and twists.

This was my first book by Emily Shiner and wow, what a job she does keeping her readers guessing. There are two different POVs that I couldn't figure out to put toghether!

So there is Lizzie who falls in love with the new doctor. He provides her with everything and more one could dream of! Actually really more than you could dream of- in your nightmares!
And there are Beth and Ian who want to renovate a family cabin so they can sell it. On their arrival Beth feels like something is off and Ryan, the caretaker of the cabin makes her feel ill at ease somehow.
Just dive in and enjoy this story with plenty of supsension and twists!
The narration done by Emily Durante is perfect for this book!

This was a quick, fast paced thriller with tons of twists. Be warned, there are many forms of abuse present in this book, mental, physical and emotion.

It was a fast-paced story that hooked me from the start. I listened to it on audio and I think I finished it in a day. It’s told in two POVs and it totally caught me off guard how the two were connected it. I don’t know how I didn’t see it but it definitely elevated my experience because of it. Overall, a pretty good thriller.

Well dang. I definitely wasn’t expecting that twist. I enjoyed this book. It’s a quick read (I finished it in one evening) and really twisty. When you figure it out it’s a wow moment.

I wasn’t thrilled with the ending. Still a solid read.

I enjoyed the narrator.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

This is a dual storyline mystery/thriller.

Lizzy quickly falls in love with the new doctor in town. She thinks he’s absolutely perfect so when he proposes to her she’s so excited. She can finally have the perfect life she’s always dreamed of. Unfortunately behind closed doors Zachary is a far different person than what he seemed and begins to abuse Lizzy but she can’t leave because he knows her deepest darkest secret.

Beth and Ian are so desperate to have a child that they are headed to Ian’s family cabin in upstate NY to get it ready to sell so they can pay for IVF. When they arrive, Beth finds out Ian hired a caretaker named Ryan to look after the place. Ryan isn’t who he says he is and happens to know a secret Beth has been keeping from her husband. She must do what Ryan says so Ian doesn’t find out.

I didn’t know how to feel about this book when I first listened to it in June so I listened to it again this morning. The narrator, Emily Durante, did an amazing job narrating different characters.

I understand meeting Mr. Perfect only to realize he wasn’t what he seemed BUT it seemed like it happened too fast. He was wonderful the whole time and then just like that was bad. I thought it would’ve been better if the crazy was sprinkled in but avoided by Lizzy. I felt like there wasn’t much plot. You kind of just get thrown into the dual storyline and before you know it the book is already over. I liked it but not as much as I thought I would. It’s still an enjoyable read and probably something others would love if they are looking for a quick mystery/thriller.

Thank you Dreamscape media for my audio copy of You Can’t Hide in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this twisty plot and the fact that the two POVs apparently seem unrelated until the end. If you like fast-paced domestic thrillers with abusive characters, You Can't Hide should be your next read.

The narrator has a very nice voice and I enjoyed her interpretation of the story.
