TW: Sadism, Physical Abuse, Manipulation, Torture

Lizzie is living in a small town in Alabama when she meets a handsome doctor who is unattached and interested in her. Unable to believe her luck, she quickly falls in love with him. They begin their life together, having a picture-perfect marriage to those on the outside. Beth is living in North Carolina and is happily married to Ian. Trying to get enough money for IVF, they travel to his family’s cabin in upstate New York to get it ready to sell. While there, they meet Ryan, the cabin’s caretaker. But not all is as it seems from first impressions.

This book is set up from two timelines/POVs, which I enjoyed. But things felt really over the top. The abuse went from zero to 100 in an instant, which made it difficult to accept it as realistic. I know there are sadistic people out there, but in a book, you want some motivation/reason included other than one or two vague references to a troubled past. Some of the characters’ actions didn’t make much sense, either. Even though it’s told from the first-person POV and privy to the characters’ inner thoughts, there were several instances when contradictory things happened without any explanation.

There really wasn’t much plot with this one, and the characters weren’t compelling enough to make this a good character-driven work, so it left me wanting more overall. There was no emotional connection to the characters because they weren’t well developed. I didn’t think there was any real palpable tension or suspense. This was partly due to how I felt about the characters, but also because so many absurd/farfetched things kept happening that the read was more absurd than suspenseful.

While I liked the creative way the author told this shorter story, I think it needed to be longer to allow for better developed characters and more plot or depth. This one does have many high ratings, so if the premise is interesting to you, go check out what other folks thought. It just didn’t work for me. My thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to read this work, which will be published June 20, 2023. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This was a quick read about a young woman who breaks down on the side of the road on her way to work and thankfully she is rescued by the new doctor who just moved to town. He is amazing and sweet and after giving her a ride to work, he offers to take a look at her car to try and fix it for her. They hit it off and start their whirlwind romance. Everything is going along great and they are both falling for each other and then he asks her to marry him and she is so excited but as soon as she says yes, things start to change immediately and now she wants out....is it too late. As she starts to walk out the door he says "if you leave I will tell everyone the real reason you moved out here". Turns out Beth has a little secret of her own that she has been hiding and not just one secret but several. I hope you like this one and enjoy all the twists and turns. Enjoy!!

You Can't Hide by Emily Shiner is an enjoyable easy read thriller. The narration by Emily Durante was really what kept me engaged. She has a clear, pleasant reading voice, and provided a distinctive difference between characters. There was a nice build-up of tension between the two POVs and time-lines, but I really felt Beth's time-line had such a rushed conclusion, and there were too many plot holes for me to ignore. I really enjoyed the book until the end and would have been a 4 otherwise. I'm looking forward to reading more from the author.

Despite the rather lackluster ending, I still would definitely recommend this book to thriller fans.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Is it that hard to be the perfect wife?

📸📸📸📸
“You Can’t Hide” tells two interlacing stories. The audiobook narrator was mesmerizing and I finished the book in a day. This is my third thriller by Emily Shiner and all were excellent!

Lizzy is a waitress who meets Zachery—the gorgeous new doctor in town—when her car breaks down. They date, he proposes, and she moves into his beautiful home. She feels like the luckiest woman in the world until Zachery turns controlling and insists she becomes the perfect wife. Before she met him she drove a car that was constantly breaking down, she waited tables at a diner and was always broke. Is being married to Zachery really that bad?

Beth is happily married to Ian, except they haven’t been able to have a baby. They’re selling Ian’s family cabin and hoping it will cover IVF treatments. The cabin is in a secluded area of mountain in upstate NY and they head up there, planning to clean it out. But when they reach the cabin, they find evidence that someone has been staying in it.

Lizzy and Beth alternate telling their POVs. The author threw in some impressive twists that were unexpected and made this an intense read.

Sincere thanks to Dreamscape Media for the complimentary advanced audiobook recording they provided through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

3.5-4 stars

Lizzie is a waitress in a small town, hiding from her past. Her car breaks down and a prominent doctor named Zachary comes to her rescue. He is perfect knight in shining armor, or is he?

Beth and Ian travel to Ian’s secluded cabin, in hopes of cleaning it up to sell so they can pay for IVF. Ryan, the caretaker, knows about Beth’s past, and plans to use it against her.

I really liked the dual POVs and short chapters. I figured out the twist early on but it didn’t take away from the story. The last chapter was a surprise, and I wish it had gone into that a little bit more. Overall a quick listen, nice little thriller.

This was gripping and crazy! This was a decent thriller and was a fun read even when it was predictable. This was a quick thriller and pulled me in from the beginning.

I found this to be an excellent thriller. It has properties of a mystery but felt more like a thriller
It does have very graphic descriptions of domestic violence that can be startling.
Lizzie is living in a small town and seems to be down on her luck until a handsome new-in-town Doctor comes to her rescue. After a whirlwind courtship they are married after only three months. Soon his true nature as a very controlling, dominate man is revealed.
There are two stories of different timelines that rotate through the book . The characters are well defined and I vacillated between pity and admiration for the strength of Lizzie’s character.
I felt like the ending tied everything up.
I would recommend the book with giving a graphic violence warning.

Really enjoyed this one!

I had no idea the link between the women until close to the end- really love how the author kept you guessing. This book was chilling, a really nice thriller. Exactly what I needed!

From the very start, I was hooked. I really enjoyed this suspenseful book. It took me a little bit to figure out the alternating stories being told but I loved the moment I figured things out and tied the two together. Such an intense wild ride. I loved the narrator too. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook.

You Can't Hide by Emily Shiner and Narrated by Emily Durante was a thriller full of emotions and anger where every page is full of tension. For a while, I felt that I am switched between two books one about Lizy and the other about Beth. Both stories were interesting but I could not tie them together.
Two different women with two different stories.
Lizy living her "perfect" life (at least everyone else thinks so) with her "perfect" husband in their perfect house that she never leaves. She is not allowed as her "perfect" life is actually a dark nightmare. And Lizy is trapped there without a way out.

Beth and her husband Ian need to prepare their cabin in the woods for sale to fund their IVF journey. Ian is a kind person believing in good but Beth is suspicious of everything and her gut tells her that they are in danger. Unfortunitelly Ian doesn't believe her and convinces Beth to stay a little bit more than she wants.

Both stories have their own unique storylines and the first big twist put both stories together. Last twist I didn't expect and got so stressed. Will there be a sequel?

Want to say a massive thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for a chance to listen to this fantastic audiobook! Emily Durante did such an amazing job making you feel this story in your bones!

The more I read, the more I want to read. And this book is proof of that. I read it in a flash. This is a soft thriller for me, for more sensitive and impressionable people it can be a strong and scary story, but I don't get scared easily, so I consider it soft. This is a story told in the first person by two characters. Lizzie and Beth. My curiosity was piqued by the fact that I didn't know what the connection between these two women was. This point of suspense was very well achieved by the author. I liked the plot twists created by the author. As for the less positive point, I point out that I think the twists should have been presented with more suspense, the twists surprised me. but they didn't have that gaping effect on me, and I wish I had it. As a conclusion of this review I end by saying: Have you ever thought if our biggest fear was the one that would guarantee our happiness?
Another work worth reading. Thank you so much Netgalley for this fantastic opportunity.

The narrator was the best part, she is an enjoyable listen anytime. The book itself was pretty middle of the road. The two stories were entertaining and the ending was satisfying.

Lukewarm, a very whatever read.
There were minor things that i didn’t like (accidental things magically happening for the benefit of the mc for example) but the negatives weren’t exactly influential to rate this lower and the reverse holds true, there was a lack of good things in this book to rate it higher so it’s just a lukewarm read. I think the similarities with Behind Closed Doors actually work against this particular work.

Also a bit of inconsistency, Lizzie says that she doesn’t believe in heaven but in the same page she says she would swear “even on the bible” that something is true but….. how would that work? You would swear on the bible because you think it’s powerful enough but don’t believe in religion at the same time? I don’t know, things like that ruin the writing a bit for me.

All in all, a very predictable plot and one under developed character that we are supposed to care for in the end.

You Can’t Hide was a fast and fun thriller that had me confused in the best way possible. Each chapter goes back and forth between two characters, Beth and Lizzy. Beth's story follows her and her husband who travel to their remote cabin to get it ready to sell. When they get there Beth feels like something was off and then this story really gets wild when the caretaker shows up.

Lizzy’s story follows her going from broke and single to married to an abusive piece of trash. Lizzy has no control over any aspect of her life and her husband is just the worst kind of human imaginable.

Both of these stores were great on their own. This book mostly felt like two separate stories. I was confused trying to figure out how the two stories come together. When we finally find out the link it didn’t hit as hard as I was hoping. It was definitely an easy one to figure out once we got close to the reveal.

You Can’t Hide is an excellent thriller that would be on my short list of recommendations this year. Definitely check it out.

Really enjoyable reading. But***TRIGGER WARNING: Domestic Abuse/ Violence ***
The story follows two lines, two couples - Lyzzy & Zachary and Beth & Ian (hopefully I spelled the names correctly as I listened the audiobook). The first line is all about domestic abuse and violence, even from the beginning I felt it’s a romance with very twisted relationships. The second line, is a very suspicious triller. And of course both lines are connected at the end, but all the way through I was guessing- HOW?!.
I really liked how the tension builds through the story. I could not put the book down; there no any single boring moment. The story hooked you from the first chapters.
Vivid characters, maybe not so deep as I would like, but still very descriptive by their actions and intentions.
I loved how the book is structured, small chapters switches your attention from one line to another at the most critical point.
And so many twists.
Thanks NetGalley and Dreamscape Media publisher for the free audiobook.

Author Emily Shiner keeps you on your toes with "You Can't Hide," a psychological thriller with a twist. The narrator goes a great job with distinguishing between the primary characters Lizzy and Beth, two women who seem to have little in common until suddenly they do. One seems to have the perfect marriage while the other really does. However, each has one person determined to ruin their lives. For Lizzy, it's a violent husband. For Beth, it's a cabin caretaker. To say more would give away too much. Please note that there are triggers for violence in the novel.

This was such a good one! it's two different stories that all comes together in the end. I got this one by accident, it showed willow rose book and I requested it, but was told it was this book instead. I still thought it looked interesting, I'm glad I took a chance on it. The narrator did a great job. It's not got an accent if you're from America, it was easy for me to listen to at 2x the speed, the problem with that is that all of a sudden it was over. It wasn't a cliff hanger ending, but could definitely be left open to a second book, I would have liked a little more closure than it gave me, but not enough to be mad about it. #YouCantHide #NetGalley

If it's worth doing it is worth doing right. This was my first book by Emily and I heading in for her others ASAP! I started this ALC and did not stop until it was over.

You Can't Hide by @authorEmilyShiner is due to published by @Dreamscape_media on June 20, 2023. Put this on your TBR list. A suspense thriller that is sure to keep you on your toes. Warning: Domestic Violence content.

Elizabeth, Beth, Lizzy, Zachary, Ian, Ryan and Jacob what a tangled web of murder, lies and abuse. Beth and Ryan a young married couple trying to start a family sells his parents cabin in New York to pay for IVF. Lizzy stranded on the side of the road in Alabama takes a ride from the new doctor in town Zachary to later become his perfect wife.

At 18 years old Lizzy ran away from her abusive home life and moved to Alabama to hide from her past. After their vacation to fix the family cabin in NY Beth and Ian head back to North Carolina to start their family. Will their paths cross again with Zachary, Ryan and Jacob? How are they all connected?

Zachary a Board-Certified doctor who went to Duke and did his residency in Chicago, why on earth did he want to go to Turkey Pen, Alabama? Was he looking for the perfect wife, perfect life or was he there to find Lizzy?

This ALC narrated by Emily Durante was great to listen to, clear narration and fit with the story very well. I was given this ALC from @Netgalley and @dreamscape_Media and @authoremilyshiner for my honest review. I cannot think of one reason to not give this as a 5* review.

I listened to the audio version of this book. I loved the narrator and thought she did a great job.

Two plot lines: Beth's story and Lizzie's story.

Lizzie is living life with an abusive husband.

Beth is desperate to have a baby. She travels to New York with her husband to prepare the cabin for sale in order to pay for fertility treatments. In the winter during a snowstorm which creates a locked door vibe.

Although the story is predictable most of the time, I still enjoyed it. Maybe I read too many thrillers, but I knew most of the plot from the start. That didn't detract from liking it though.

I loved Lizzie's strength in dealing with a hopeless situation.

I will look for more books by this author.

Thanks to netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the arc.
