I've really enjoyed reading the Jasmine Toguchi series, and this eighth book did not disappoint either! Each book tackles a different challenge like doing something before an older sibling, or discovering a talent you didn't know you had, or leaving behind a beloved relative, and Debbi Michiko Florence does a fantastic job of putting these growing 'pains' into words that are simple and easy to understand.
One of my favorite parts of the series is how you, the reader, get to experience and learn about Japanese culture and the Japanese language right alongside Jasmine. Reading these books always fills me with nostalgia from my own travels to Japan.
Definitely a series I enjoy recommending to readers who also enjoy Junie B and Fancy Nancy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children's for the eARC.
Probably my favorite Jasmine Toguchi book! I love following Jasmine and her family on all of their adventures. This story in particular took me back to my own travels in Japan -- how wonderful! Students will connect with Jasmine's desire to travel and see the sights, but also the absolute exhaustion of it, too. Many students will connect with Jasmine's desire to know her grandmother better and will feel her heartache when she needs to live her behind in Japan.
This book was absolutely fantastic. I've already added it to our list for order next year and will recommend it to students once we have it. I cannot wait to see some of my students reading this book!
I really enjoyed joining Jasmine on these family adventures in Japan. I felt this was a good end to the series. I liked how Jasmine and Sophie have become closer and I liked all the interactions with Obaachan.
A lovely series.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
Jasmine's trip to Japan is coming to an end, as is her chapter book series. While I didn't find her adventures in this book as engaging as in the earlier ones in the series, I liked seeing how she and Sophie really have grown closer as sisters. The sadness of leaving a grandparent in another country is one TCKs will relate to. While not my favorite Jasmine book, I do love the series as a whole!
