This is a truly suspenseful page turner! It definitely reminded me of Sandra Brown without the romantic aspects. I felt like all the family drama, organized crime, reasons to escape were explained well and in an order that kept me on my toes. The descriptions of the freezing mountain chase and the tracking felt so real.
I’d definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a quick, outdoorsy thriller. Their twists and villains and emotional roller coaster were spot on. And the audio was done really well.

Wow! I absolutely loved this audiobook. It was fast paced with great narration. This story was complex with lots of twists and turns. From the first page until the last you were captivated.

Allison Brennan did one heck of a job creating this outstanding twisted tale of family, loyalty and well…evil. Because honestly there was no other word for Frankie.

Listening to this at times I felt as if I was running freezing in the woods. And even though you basically know what’s going on there are many twists and at times I was like WHAT?!?!

This is a must listen. I have been a fan of this author for a very long time. This story really shows the depth of her talent. It was a family saga wrapped in mystery and suspense. Read it. Listen to it. However you choose just don’t miss out!

North of Nowhere was an excellent thriller. It was filled with adventure and plenty of twists. I listened to it in one sitting. It kept me on my toes and made me excited to run and check out Allison Brennan’s backlist.

I will definitely recommend this book to anyone that’ll listen.

Thank you Allison Brennan, NetGalley, and Macmillan Audio for giving me access to this ALC.

A decent thriller with a lot of action. I enjoyed this book as it helped me pass the time during work.

To be completely honest, I would have liked this audiobook if it wasn’t set in Montana. As someone who is from Montana, this book is completely unrealistic. It appeared as if the author watched one episode of Yellowstone and looked at a map for research. Not only is it unrealistic, but there are so many detailed descriptions of the geography that I was over it. Seriously… take a shot every time the narrator mentions a town name. Not only that, but the author made it seem like Montana is the Wild West. It’s not. Bozeman is basically the Greenwich of Montana. It’s a suburban city. The rest is either farms or giant cabins built by billionaires.

For some reason, I was surprised to discover that this is the first book that I've read from Allison Brennan. When I went to go check, I found that I have many, many books in my TBR library from her, so I guess I just assumed that I had already read some of them. I hadn't. This was a really nice entry for me.

This is a stand alone book that starts fairly quickly with drama and action and does not stop until the very last page. The story begins with Tony and his two "children" - Kristen and Ryan - being discovered after running and hiding in Montana for the last five years. Apparently, Tony took the kids five years ago to save them. They are the children of Boyd MacIntyre (the father) who is one of the heads of a major crime family. They are also the grandchildren of the actual head of the family. Their mother was killed during the escape and Tony is a wanted fugitive accused of murder and kidnapping.

Things are not very clear in the beginning regarding "who" is good versus who is bad. Is it Boyd, who just wants his kids back? Is it Tony, for taking the kids and hiding them away? Things unravel very slowly as we begin to get the back story.

As they run to try to escape their pursuers, things go very wrong and the kids end up in the wilderness in the middle of a blizzard trying to get to safety. What makes this book so interesting is that we are introduced to several characters who find themselves in the middle of this drama. Again, who is the bad guy? And who is trying to kill whom?

There are a couple of twists in the story- one, I figured out fairly quickly and the other was a complete surprise. I did like the fact that the story held the build up and suspense for the entirety of the book. I also liked the secondary characters of Ruby, Nick, and Jason and felt like their character development was done in a way that got the reader to definitely root for them.

I listened to this on audio and found that I enjoyed the narration of Eliza Foss. I think she was also a first time narrator for me. So, I consider this a win for my first book by Ms. Brennan. I think it might be time to go and see what else I have from her in my library.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read/listen to and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

This was my first book by Allison Brennan and it was a wild ride! The story takes place in Montana, mostly in the wilderness near Big Sky. It features a man on the run with two children: a 16-year-old girl and a 10-year old boy who is deaf. Why are they on the run? Apparently, the man kidnapped them for their own good, five years before and their father has finally located their whereabouts. They’ve been living in Montana and they love Tony and call him “dad.” Their actual father and grandmother are the leaders of an organized crime family. The action basically doesn’t stop! There’s a long cat-and-mouse sequence in a snowstorm that was a page-turner. In addition to the children’s father, it seems other people are also after them, which complicates things significantly. There’s even a moose encounter along the way.

We meet some great characters, including Boyd, the father, who is not a cookie-cutter bad guy. There are lots of shades of grey in this story! We also meet their aunt, Ruby, who has disassociated herself from the crime family and also from the children, for their own safety. She’s a multi-faceted character with lots of skills from having served in the army for several years. One person without any shades of grey is the grandmother, though. She’s a piece of work!

I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient. However, the audiobook’s narrator was WAY too slow, so I had to speed it up quite a bit to be able to listen. (Since this was an advance copy, maybe this problem has been taken care of, for the final version.)

Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book and to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

A slow-burn thriller of family intrigue, misplaced loyalties, and the fight for freedom.

I enjoyed this as my first novel from this author. A thrilling ride though the wilds of Montana on the heels of a storm that brings with it more danger than just the elements.

I liked the uncovering of the family drama & history and how it impacted the present. The main characters had my support and, as there converging storylines came together I enjoyed deepening tension.

The last third of the book (or so) was definitely different from the rest and, while flowed logically, was hard to take at some points. I *really* disliked the “bad guy” (which, I’m sure, was the point) but they seems almost larger than life bad. A little unbelievable.

The climax was nice and twisty and I like how things wrapped up.

All in all, a great read for those who like a slower thriller that ramps ip at the end.

My rating: 4*

They're my kids....Boyd McIntyre will stop at nothing to bring his kids home but can he brave the Montana Wilderness to do it?
.
Before I even get into my review I want to state it is a 5***** from me. I couldn't stop listening to this story. Tony has taken Boyds children and put them in hiding for very good reasons, he knew the day would come when Boyd would find them and come to get his kids. Tony, Kristen & Ryan had planned for this day with all the right training and plans in place to hide again, but this time Frankie has also come determined more than ever to take her grandchildren back home for their rightful place within the family organization at any cost.
.
The Montana wilderness is no place for someone who doesn't know the land and the McIntyre family is as far as it comes from being prepared in a snow storm coming from LA to hunt down Kristen & Ryan. However their father & grandmother are not the only one looking for these 2. Detective Jackson is also looking for them for his own selfish reasons.
.
Tony moving the kids to Montana and working for the Lorenzos has been nothing short of great for the 3 of them, they have built a bond with Nick and his family, this shines through in the story. When it was time to run Nick knew to call Ruby (the kids aunt) to come help but she is not your average aunt, jumping out of a plane to get to their location in the wilderness is only the beginning of her story.
.
The story had action, murder, determination, strength, twists & turns and narrator Eliza Foss was the perfect choice for this. Thank you to @netgalley and @Macmillion Audio for this ALC of North of Nowhere. This was my first book review for @allisonbrennan and I look forward to her other books.

North of Nowhere is my first Allison Brennan book and the premise sounded good, with two kids who may or may not have actually been kidnapped running from their father and some bad guys into a snow storm. The book started out strong with an exciting escape in a "borrowed" plane that crashes after being shot at on takeoff, unfortunately then I felt that it lost its way a bit with too many characters with unknown motivations. I think my biggest problem was that if you're going to bring in a bad-ass aunt who escaped the crime family and literally parachutes into the action, she should have far more to do in the story. Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the early listen in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book started out great with a lot of action and danger looming but the ending left me wanting more.

North of Nowhere is a thrill a minute from beginning to end. I’m always eager to read a book by Allison Brennan because she great at pulling me into the book by way of the characters emotions and fears. North of Nowhere centers around two vulnerable children who have been in hiding from their crime family. They are in the middle of the Montana wilderness with a storm bearing down on them being hunted by people that love them, people that fear them and people who want to use them. Excitement overload and I loved every second of it.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with thrillers. I love the excitement, but I need them to stay in the realm of the possible. This one fits that bill. And it’s got a fabulous premise!
Kristan and Ryan are the children of a notorious LA crime lord. Five years ago, one of his underlings escaped with them and has kept them hidden for five years in Montana. But now, their father has discovered them. And this starts the beginning of a hunt through the Montana wilderness during a snowstorm. There are multiple people tracking them, a mix of good and bad. And it’s not immediately obvious who is who.
Brennan has written a fascinating, high octane story. It’s one of those books that kept me finding excuses to listen to it (several things didn’t get done). It was easy to envision each scene - and I could feel the cold in each of my extremities. The story is told from the third person, so we see the story from a variety of perspectives. Thrillers aren’t known for deep character development, but this one does better than most. I was particularly impressed with Kristin and her aunt Ruby.
I thought Eliza Foss did a great job as the narrator.
My thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of this book.

I enjoyed this audio book that took place in a small MT town and the surrounding wilderness. I loved the story and characters but I did sometimes feel like the description of where the characters were on the mountain was unclear. I couldn't quite picture it.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the Arc!

2.5 stars

This was fast, and jumped into the action immediately. I did get a bit confused keeping track of all the different people hunting the kids, and all the characters really felt somewhat one-dimensional. I think this could have been 3-stars but for the audiobook narrator, who really over-exaggerated everything and just annoyed me.

I started out on this one excited and feeling like it was quite a thriller. Unfortunately, it definitely lost steam in the middle and I had trouble getting through. Near the end, it picked up and I enjoyed the excitement, but the end was a little too perfectly wrapped up with a bow for me. Overall, it was interesting read but not one I’d pick up again.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF @ 40% for me. The writing is solid and the audiobook narration is excellent, but I wasn't invested in the story or the characters. There were too many POVs for my particular liking and I just couldn't get excited about the suspense that the author was attempting to build. I'm sure others will feel engaged, but it just wasn't for me!
