What a crazy read/listen!
All of the drama was insane. I loved hw the bag guy/girl was so deeply evil. Unreal evil. And Nick was so good.
I especially loved that they have a deaf child character. Al the people around him sign and love him. He is a survivor.
The narration was good too.

A gripping, suspenseful thriller from Allison Brennan. This is the first time l've read or listened to in this case, any of Allison Brennan's novels, but I will be looking into her backlist.

This audiobook was so atmospheric, there were times I was cold and it’s summertime here. It’s set during a blizzard and while the most evil grandmother is hunting down these kids, they weather is their enemy as well.

I loved the pace of this book and the narration both keep you engaged and listening! The survival aspect ads a suspense element as well as its action packed. I liked not figuring out all the details, the surprises and twists were spot on. The way this is told from multiple pov, gives the reader some cliff hangers!

I loved the characters and enjoyed seeing the connections grow as the book progressed.

I really enjoyed this one and want to thank, Macmillan Audio, Minotaur Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Allison Brennan and Macmillan Audio for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Allison Brennan returns with another great thriller that will have the reader flipping pages just to get to the core of the story. Her delivery is strong and the characters come to life in this dark piece that speaks of protection, honour, and the fight to survive. Brennan keeps the momentum going and captivates the reader with ease.

Having been on the run for five years, Kristin and Ryan McIntyre come face to face with their father, Boyd. A man who has been killing for years as part of a crime family, Boyd has pulled some strings and tracked the two to rural Montana. During a skirmish, the plane in which they are travelling is struck by a bullet and the pilot is killed. Now, Kristin and Ryan are stuck in the wilderness, unsure which way to go. On the horizon, a looming storm is sure to make things all the more difficult!

While Kristin and Ryan have been fending for themselves, their aunt, Ruby, has been keeping track of them and hoped they would steer clear of the murderous Boyd. She she learns of the plane crash, Ruby kicks into high gear to help, hoping that she is not too late. Knowing her brother and the family all too well, Ruby can only imagine the horrors that await the children when they are back in Boy’d clutches.

While the blizzard is building, Kristin and Ryan try to stay one step ahead of the trouble. Ruby is not the only one trying to find them, as Boyd had a tracker locating the kids for his own selfish means. A local rancher also has his eye on finding these kids, knowing the backcountry of Montana like his own hand. With little time and a lot at stake, everyone hopes to find the McIntyre children, though it could cost everyone what they value most… their life! A decent piece by Allison Brennan that will leave the reader thinking!

I believe that I have read some Allison Brennan in years past, but know that I have not made a concerted effort to keep up to date. The story worked well and flowed with ease, using a clear narrative path and characters who are easily relatable. The varied perspectives of the narrative shed light on the struggles many within the story have, both personally and as they relate to the missing children. Plot lines develop with ease, though there is nothing too stunning about what is on offer. While I enjoyed the book, there was nothing stunning that came of it for me. Still, the character and plot advancements provided something most readers could enjoy.

Kudos, Madam Brennan, for a good story that kept me thinking throughout.

"North of Nowhere "is a very well told drama about a crime family and the members who no longer want to be mixed up in it. There are some really great characters in the book and while I did enjoy the story overall, it moved a little slowly for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in advance of publication.

This is my first time reading an Allison Brennan book, North of Nowhere releases on August 8, I was lucky enough to be granted both a digital and audio arc from the publishers.

The story begins at a breakneck pace and doesn't let up for the over 350 pages. We follow Kristen, Ryan and Tony as they flee from Kristen and Ryan's father, who they've been hiding from for the past five years. It is a cat and mouse chase through a snowstorm involving a plane, ATVs, and snowmobiles in the mountains. It doesn't take long to realize that they're not just being chased by their father but by someone else entirely.

The plot is multi-layered and expertly weaves back in time to reveal a complex story about a powerful mafia type family. There are plenty of red herrings and unreliable characters that kept me guessing. The story is told from a wide lens, but the focus is on Kristen, her aunt Ruby, and the local sheriff.

North of Nowhere is a well-written and engaging story that I found to put down. The audiobook definitely helped me get through it faster, but I enjoyed listening (the narrator did a great job). It's a story of family, even when one is not blood related, revenge and strength. Very entertaining, I will be on the lookout for more books by Allison Brennan.

My thanks to St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio (via Netgalley) for advanced copies in exchange for honest review.

I’ve come to depend on her books when I’m in need of story that’s guaranteed to have a solid plot, just the right balance of twists to keep me hooked, and a mixture of characters which complex layers. I am so glad to have received an advance copy from @netgalley to review and am once again reminded why Allison Brennan will continue to be one of my favorite authors.

North of Nowhere follows Kristin and Ryan, a young brother and sister, through the wilderness of Montana in the midst of a blizzard after surviving a plane crash. They race to reach safety while be chased by not only their criminal father but an unidentified gunman, a local rancher and his son, and their estranged Aunt Ruby who comes parachuting in during the storm. This edge of your seat thriller will not disappoint.

I enjoyed this new, fast-paced thriller by Allison Brennan. I received an ARC from NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and the author, for my honest review. The narrator, Eliza Foss, did an amazing job as the voice of all the characters, female and male, young and old.

This story involves a vicious and dangerous crime/mob family which is run by one of the most vindictive and ruthless criminals, 62 year old mother, Frankie McIntyre. She lives in Los Angeles and has been searching for her son, Boyd's missing children, Kristin and Ryan McIntyre. The children went missing 5 years ago with a former employee/thug, Tony, who was romantically involved with Boyd's wife, Maggie. Maggie was killed by the crime family because she was cheating on Boyd. Tony loves the kids and wants them protected from the crime family, so they take off and have been in hiding for 5 years. He has been raising them as his own children in a rustic, Montana setting.

There are other strong, secondary characters, that are notable: Aunt Ruby (McIntyre), who also loves the kids and left her crime family around the same time. She too has been in hiding and is one smart and strong woman. There's also 2 friends of Tony's and kids who are Montana ranch owners' Jason and Nick Lorenzo.

There were times I found it overly simplified in its explanations and descriptions, but I went with a suspension of disbelief and enjoyed it. There is a quite a bit of violence and brutality, but again, go with it if you can passover that.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audio ARC.

Omg. OMG!

I enjoyed the he2l out of this story. Holy moly. Edge of my seat (which is not super safe when you listen while driving). I was making up reasons to drive just to squeeze in more time here and there bc I needed to know what happened next. I gasped, I got mad for how some of the characters were treated by others, and I had the best time listening to this story. Did I pre-order? Yep.

Do I now want to listen to allllll of the books Eliza Foss has narrated? You bet. She was stellar. Phenomenal.

Thank you to Allison Brennan, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to an eaudiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This novel was great! My only complaint is the head-hopping. Were all those points of view necessary? There were at least five--no, six--and that's way too many. If you need that many POVs to tell your story, you're not doing it well. It just inflates the narrative because you're describing the same events over and over and over.

But apart from that, I enjoyed it. I liked the characters. Kudos to Brennan for making Boyd sympathetic, that's not easy to do. Tony, too. Little Ryan was the stand out. How could he not be? That poor sweet boy. I just wanted to give both him and his sister a huge hug.

Eliza Foss was a great narrator!

Fantastic!!! I read a couple of chapters of this book in one of the Minotaur Samplers and was very excited to get this audiobook from the publisher! This is such a gripping and faced paced thriller set in the Montana mountains in the dead of winter.

Sixteen year old Kristen and her deaf, younger brother, Ryan, have been on the run from their biological father for the past 5 years with the help of a trusted family friend. The dreaded day has arrived when their father, head of a crime family, has tracked them down. With the help of local friends, their estranged Aunt, and the Sheriff, they try to escape returning to their family where indoctrination into the life of running a criminal enterprise awaits them. Will they escape or die a frozen death in the Montana mountains during a blizzard?

This is an action packed thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat!!! HIghly recommend!!!!!

This stand alone crime thriller is jam packed with action, intense scenes, and twists. I loved the setting in the remote wilderness with an impending snowstorm. It’s no secret that I love Allison Brennan’s work and this one is another homerun!

This one definitely wasn't for me, but nonetheless, I'm stoked and thankful to have received an advance digital copy and audiobook access to this fast-paced thriller about a murderous parental figure, which I just so happened to read on Father's Day, irony??? North of Nowhere is set to hit shelves on August 8, 2023, and I'm so thankful to Allison Brennan, St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an early edition of North of Nowhere by Allison Brennan, narrated by Eliza Foss. Eliza did a very nice job narrating this book.

I love Brennan’s Quinn and Costa’s series, so decided to see how she does on another story. This is a story of how Tony saved Kristin and Ryan from their mob-like father and grandmother. As you would expect the mob father catches up to them. The story takes place in Montana in winter. When Tony realizes they have been found, he implements his getaway plan. The getaway plan brings them deep into the woods, with a winter storm coming.

The story is told from several characters' points of view, which might have made it difficult to follow, but I did not find that with this book. There are also a lot of characters, but the author does a good job of introducing each and giving you the right amount of information for each based on their importance to the story. The story moves quickly, always a plus for me, with a lot of twists, turns, and surprises. My one complaint is the same as Quinn & Costa #3 and #4 – too much time is spent on the various characters during their point of view narrative, explaining what they are thinking, sometimes repeating the same thoughts several times throughout the book. This was a bit much and I did find myself rolling my eyes.

The main character of this story is a 16 year old girl, and she is fighting for her and her brother’s safety. Through a web of characters (sometimes a bit hard to keep straight), she trusts no one, as she has learned the hard way that everyone can be bought and corrupted, even police officers.

As someone with PTSD, it’s heartbreaking to know the lifelong struggles she will have as a result of her family. I know it’s fiction, but also know some kids do live through horrors.

I appreciated the fact that her brother is death. It’s nice to see minorities portrayed in positive ways.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced reader’s copy. It was my first by this author, and an intro to thrillers.
