Thanks to The Paper House and NetGalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review this title.
This bilingual book encourages readers to think about how they talk to themselves. How to change what they think and say to be more positive words to change their lives. The artwork captures children's expressions and emotions clearly so that the readers can identify how they feel. A much needed book to be added to home libraries. I really like that the book included informative text for adults at the end.
This story had great illustrations and pictures, But above that it just didn't seem to have any flow or anything.
It felt more like reading a daily affirmations book than a childrens book.
I had high hopes as i try to instill love for yourself in my kids but this just missed that mark.
Thank you Netgalley and Publishers for this ARC for review purposes.
While this book sent a good message. I do not feel as if the book is written, in a way to grasp the attention of children. The copy I received had some formatting issues.
I received an electronic ARC from The Paper House through NetGalley.
Written in English and Spanish.
This bilingual book encourages young (and not so young) readers to think about how they talk to themselves. To change what they think/say to more positive words and tones to change their lives. Angulo offers simple text to build readers self-esteem and self-love. She shares an honest look at how we think about ourselves and acknowledges the need to treat ourselves more gently. She also includes informative text for adults at the end. The artwork captures children's expressions and emotions clearly so readers can identify how they feel also. A much needed book for this level.
Thank you for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I thought this was a really sweet and usable book. It could be good for parents/families and classrooms alike. The bilingual aspect was great and has the potential to make more kids feel seen. This would work well for confidence building and kids could pick a mantra that speaks to them. So glad I got to review this text!
Such a cute book on how to teach children to be happy for their own accomplishments. I love that this is both in Spanish and English so it can help children be bilingual and learn a new language.
This is a great book to teach children about the importance of self-love and positive self-talk. I know that this is something that we all can learn to do better to improve our thinking when talking to ourselves. I appreciated that she created this book after working as a therapist and seeing that many people, even children, need to learn how to speak kindly to themselves. I really liked that the artwork was modern and bright. I would say this book is a success and could really be beneficial for parents and teachers to use when teaching children about self-love.
I really liked the message of this book. My oldest struggles with anxiety and negative thinking sometimes because he compares himself to classmates. This book would be wonderful for him and I will be reading it to him later. Thank you for such a positive message for little kids to hear about the importance of positive thinking.
Title: I Love Myself! ¡Quiérete!
Author: Adriana Angulo
Illustrated by: Asmed Espitia
Publisher: The Paper House
I Love Myself! ¡Quiérete! By Adriana Angulo is a picture book that promotes positive self-affirmations to help change negative thoughts into realistic thoughts.
Some things I appreciated:
-As a bilingual household, I always appreciate authors who include Spanish.
-The use of evidence based practices. Learning to change negative thoughts is part of CBT, and has many years of research to support its positive impact on both youth and adults with mental health needs.
-Positive Affirmations were included at the end of the book that families can practice with their young children.
-“Note for Parents, Teachers, and Clinicians” were included at the end of the book on how to implement positive coping strategies with young children.
Things that I would have liked to see:
-Including more brain science of how negative thoughts are changed. For example, the situation impacts our thoughts, and our thoughts impact our emotions and feelings, which then impact how we respond. Teaching kids the “how” our behavior is impacted by our thoughts and feelings (not the situation), makes the process more concrete for some of our younger learners.
-Including more visual explanations for our concrete learners. Example, visuals of the brain with thought bubbles, etc.
-More concrete examples of present and realistic situations that kids are facing now so that they can make personal connections to how positive affirmations and positive thinking can help them.
Thank you Netgalley and The Paper House Publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the idea behind this book which is to improve the self-esteem of children and to get them to feel more positive about themselves and to have healthy thinking patterns
The illustrations were good and worked well with the story too.
It is 3.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 4 stars for Goodreads and Amazon – a positive book for children to try to remove the little negative thoughts that can creep in
