My first time reading this novelist and for me while the tale was well told for some reason the character and the working environment did not land for me.
The coincidences felt a bit like too much happenstance to occur and a bit soap opera for me.
The evil Liam Crane was a well constructed villain who unfortunately is the most memorable character, but the kidnapping of two children and the killing of two women is just a bit too much for me sadly.
I finished it but not for me
Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for my advanced copy of Old Evils to read and review.
The fourth Detective Annie Delamare book set in the Peak District. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I had the book finished in one day!
It starts with three people stranded by snow at a pub int he middle of nowhere! The burglar alarm goes off and they discover one of them is missing!! The body is found soon after. Who, how, why did they die? The following day, a child goes missing whilst out with his Grandad. No spoilers but this is one book that needs to be read as it's full of plot twists and surprises.
Excellent story. Lots of action and twists and turns. Well worth reading.
Read it in one day. Its a difficult book to put down
Highly recommended.
Looking forward to more from Alex Walters
Many thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC and opportunity to enjoy this wonderful book
The fourth book in the police procedural series featuring DI Annie Delamere and set in Derbyshire. This is an entertaining read with plenty of action and a sophisticated plot. The pace throughout the book was good. There were plenty of twists and surprises in the story that kept it interesting. This was the first book in the series I had read and I found the characters rather flat. If I had read the earlier books there might have been some character development, but by book four they seem established in their roles. There were times when I found the plot rather contrived and sometimes implausible but overall I enjoyed the book and it was well-written.
High up in the Peak District, the snow has stranded three people at a pub. Having to stay the night, the pub alarm goes off in the middle of the night, and one of the three is missing. Minutes later, a body is found.
The following day, a young boy goes missing while out sledging with his grandad.
Two very different cases, but which yield links making no sense. And for one of Annie Delamere's team, it's getting a bit personal.
Another great adventure in this super series
Book 4 in the DI Annie Delamere series, set in the Peak District, is another excellent read in the series. I like the team dynamics as they investigate an accidental death and two missing children. Can there possibly be a connection? Meanwhile, one of the team is battling her own personal problems when she finds out that she is adopted and her "father" is a criminal. The characterisation is believable, it's well written with plenty tension and a few twists rattling along at a fast pace. I highly recommend this series and look forward to book 5. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Three people are stranded at a pub when snow makes it impossible to travel home. They are offered a bed and during the night one of the women is found dead in a snow drift. Then one of her companions is killed a few days later......
The following day, a Grandfather turns his back for a moment and his grandson disappears without trace.
Then a young girl is snatched from the garden.
There is no connection between these crimes, until DI Annie Delamere's mother mentions a snippet of what seems like irrelevant information from a news article.
The race is on for the teams to work together before more lives are lost.
A very good twisty police procedural. Shows how just one tiny piece of a puzzle can bring all the pieces together. Sometimes one looks too hard and too long to see the big picture.
Very tense thriller and I want to read more from this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
