Light, fun romance that reads very well. The two main characters had great chemistry. Talulah had quite a few issues and Brant was very committed and protective. Her small town hasn’t forgotten that she left 14 years ago, and most do not welcome her back. While I didn’t really like that they tried to hide their relationship, I did get why and also it’s a fun romance read and not real life so I didn’t let it take my pleasure away. Secondary character, Ellen, has me wanting her story told. Give this a read, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
I appreciate NetGalley for letting me read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I generally read books to be entertained and to be completely candid, I like happy endings! That being said…
Wow! Brenda Novak has iced the cake with the first installment of her new Coyote Canyon series! The memories of Talulah’s backing out of her first wedding at the alter have not dimmed in the small Montana town, even after 14 years of her working and living in Seattle. If it hadn’t been for her great Aunt’s passing and having to clean out and sell the old house, Talulah would still have been in Seattle baking at the Dessert Diner she and her business partner Paul owned. But the first person she runs into is Brent, who had been best man at the first wedding she had walked away from. Talulah is forced to come to grips with her growing attraction to Brent, her fears of failing, her desire to find love and her need to trust herself while dealing with her former fiancé’s resentful family. Once I started reading it I was hard pressed to put it down. Loved the ending, and can’t wait for the next book in the series.
It's been a while since I've read a book by Brenda Novak. She used to write some of my favorite romance novels and then kind of broke off into women's fiction. I don't have a problem with women's fiction, I just enjoyed her romance novels more. Which leads me to Talulah's Back in Town. It's the first book in Novak's new contemporary romance series Coyote Canyon. I was excited to find out if I would love it as much as I have loved some of her book series, like Whiskey Creek. Spoiler: I did!
Talulah's Back in Town was a fun read. The runaway bride aspect of the story could have been cliche, but it made this romance unique. Talulah didn't just ditch one groom at the alter but three. Over the years, she's come to terms with her commitment issues. She has emotionally grown while she's been away. Talulah knew her faults and wanted to be true to herself as well as others. I don't often see female characters like hers who struggle with commitment in romance novels very often, so it was a nice change. I loved how she met her match in Brant.
The last person Talulah expects to bond with when she returns to Coyote Creek is her ex-fiancé's best friend Brant. They have never gotten along in the past, but time changes things. Now, there's an attraction and connection that wasn't there before. I loved how Brant listened to Talulah and made his own mind up about her. He knew what he wanted and wasn't scared to fight for it. He also didn't suffer fools.
Brant and Talulah end up in this forbidden, hidden friends with benefits type situation. They're trying to hide it from her ex and his best friend, Charlie. Charlie adds an interesting piece to the story because he's still not over Talulah and her ditching him at the altar. To make things even more tense, Charlie's sister was one of Talulah's best friends. She's also unhappy with Talulah's return. It makes things messy for Brant and Talulah's growing relationship. That's not the end of things that stand in their way either. Talulah's also has a business partner who is pushing for more with her. It all made for an interesting and entertaining story. I enjoyed how Brant and Talulah worked through everything that came their way. They did an excellent job communicating with each other - something I don't find often in books.
I loved this book and the only thing I might have wished was different was that it had been in first person instead of third. That's just a personal preference, though. I'm really excited to continue reading more books in this series.
Brenda has done it again! I have read almost all of her books, and her series are some of the best I've ever read. This one is no exception. This series starter takes place in Montana, a new setting for her books. I love how she makes the characters come alive. I got very attached to all of them, even the ones you aren't supposed to like. I loved the bit of suspense she puts in all her books. The who-done-it part, and in this case I never guessed it until the end. I loved being in Coyote Canyon and can't wait to return for the next book in the series. I'm sure it will be just as captivating as this one!
Wow, this book was phenomenal. It was, start before bed and stay up until 1:30am just to finish it, kind of good. I almost always enjoy Brenda Novak novels, but this one left me wishing it was going to be more than just a trilogy. Brenda has a way with making characters so utterly relatable that they feel like real life friends. Run, don't walk, to read this.

This is an interesting story that has so many negatives going against the main characters. But yet the author finds a wonderful balance when it comes to their growing connection.
Pulling in the small-town dynamic is the focus that Novak is using with this story. When everyone knows everyone in a small town, getting forgiven for a wrong that may have been committed, or perceived to be wrong, is darn near impossible.
When Talulah comes back to town, she is opening the floodgates for gossip and just plain meanness to come to her. Novak crafted her to be strong, at least on the outside, but a good friend to others, when she can show herself to the world.
Brant is a wonderful support and strong friend that is willing to stand by her in so many ways. Their growing trust and care for each other is a delicate process that has to slowly develop to protect other balances in town and between them too. I love that he cared about her the way he did. Definitely a dreamy hottie!
Novak developed this story with care and compassion for others while showing that yes, people have issues, but sometimes we don’t always know what is going on inside them. Talulah had issues, but I ended up cheering her on toward the end for a wonderful HEA, leaving you anticipating more!
Talulah’s Back in Town is a complex story with characters that have issues, but despite it all, allows for a growing romance full of tenderness, smexy times, and forgiveness. It is a little heartbreaking but also heartwarming! Novak always crafts stories that make me devour them!
Brenda Novak is one of my top ten favorite author's and she delivers another great story with Talulah's Back in Town! Funny, touching, romantic, heartwarming real life characters. A best seller and must read. Don't miss it!!
Talulah has a reputation for leaving grooms (3 at last count) at the alter and being afraid to commit. She owns a dessert diner in Seattle but is back in her hometown of Coyote Canyon, where her first groom left at the alter lives, for her Aunt’s funeral and to get her house ready for sale. Charlie and his family are still very angry with her 14 years later. She runs into his best friend, Brant, and sparks fly!
An excellent, fun, romance read by one of my favorite authors! I loved the characters so much! Talulah, Brant, Ellen, and all the others are so likable (with the exception of Paul). It’s a light read with a little spice that I found to be engaging. I was so wrapped up in this one that I finished in a few hours! I can’t wait for the next one!
Talulah is a runway bride. She keeps leaving the grooms at the altar. She’s back in town where she left Charlie at the altar. She hooks up with his best friend Brant which causes turmoil. I enjoyed the romance with a bit of humor.
Talulah has a reputation, the runaway bride, she has left 3 grooms at the alter. Now she is back in Coyote Canyon to handle the estate of her Aunt. Charlie, the groom she was supposed to marry is still very angry with her. Brant, Charlie’s best friend, is more attracted to her the more time he spends with her, which creates problems for them. This is a romance that I thoroughly enjoyed, lots of quirky characters, and a couple you can’t help rooting for. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Talulah's Back in Town by Brenda Novak Enjoyable, sensual romance between Tululah and Brant with a dash of humor, and a HEA. Looking forward to revisiting Coyote Canyon and meeting more of it's residents.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Written by a favorite author, this romance moves quickly when the past meets the present. Quirky characters keep the story an example of realistic fiction. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author for the electronic copy. Novak can weave a page turner with surprises.
