This book is a mystery/thriller with different point of views from the characters and beautifully written. The timelines were also very well written.

I read this book in a day and I never looked back! The twist and the plot were pretty easy to identify but the different POV's kept me intrigued to see how everything was going to unfold. A couple of the characters were so unlikable that it made it hard to feel bad or connect with them in any way. I do wish that the ending would've given a little more, I wanted to know how the characters dealt with the aftermath.

Overall I give this 5 out 5 because it really was a great book and I will definitely read more from this Author. I enjoyed the thrill of the plot and its twists.

Pretty forgettable horror comic, as someone goes to the creepy cursed village beside the creepy cursed forest, the forest that might have swallowed up his best friend on his travels. What he finds in the village is a huge hodge-podge of random tropes – people vanishing, people dying, people returning having vanished, people cursed, witches – oh, and an entire village of Romanian peasants who dress like Hammer movie buxom broads, and speak perfect Americanised English. Some of the art is quite effective, and the dodgy guy in the woods with the basement provides for a bit of a fun scene, but the whole is in dire need of some oomph and/or originality and/or plain logic.

I have to admit that I really couldn't get into Whisper of the Woods. The story was not well developed and I wasn't a fan of the illustrations. Not recommended.

Adam travels to the heart of the most haunted forest in Romania, searching for his missing friend. The locals and the witch warn about his imminent death.
In one of my searches for a new comic to read on NetGalley, I found him, and I got the wish to read him for October.
This was a short comic, and I wished it could be longer, the author could explore the subjects, and the last page made me want it even more.
The drawing style is pretty and left me curious about the other works of the author, the women were so pretty and mysterious.
I recommend this reading, and it was fun to have it in my October tbr.

Searching for his missing friend, Adam travels to Hoia Baciu, Romania's most supernatural forest. Locals warn of iele hunting men in the vicinity, and a witch gives warning of Adam's impending death. Even so, he remains determined to find his friend. With every passing night, it becomes more and more difficult to ignore the forest around him.

At first, the art style seems simple and full of pastels. Once Adam reaches the nearby village, however, the warnings that the elders give come with a startling panel that made me rear back. Well done, it really gets the creepy vibe across that Adam feels walking into the village and hearing about the iele. The way he's drawn when freaked out also reminds me of anime styles. The story progresses rapidly, and he's drawn further into the forest and the dreams he has, ignoring all warnings given. It's got the flavor of horror, even if he says he's not in a creepypasta. He kind of is, and we see what will happen even if he doesn't. It's a story that will definitely appeal to horror and creepy lovers.

This was a cute horror story, but it felt like it stopped right as it was getting really good! The graphics were beautiful but it felt like it ended too soon!

Thank you to NetGalley for access to this eARC.

I liked the concept of this graphic novel, but the execution felt more like a rough draft. The dialogue and written portions felt very clunky and rushed, and while the art style isn't my personal preference, a good story with good writing can easily make me fall in love with the story regardless of the style. Ultimately, this would have benefitted as a longer story and more polished writing.

I really wanted to like this book. The art was beautiful I really enjoyed the creepiness of it and the art helped evoke the feelings that were meant to come across.

I wish that there was build up. I felt that I had zero connection to the characters. Even if the build-up would’ve been a little later, on the missing person. I know the book is short, but I think it could’ve been done in a short time. As well as the weird pacing of it all. I’ve read many short stories that are graphic novels and I think maybe with a few more pages this might have work but I’m also unsure because everything felt so rushed and weird. I think if this was set up in a book of short stories or I was told originally it would be short maybe I wouldn’t be so harsh but if I would buy this from a store, I would return it because for the price I’d pay and the quality isn’t equal compared tox other short graphic stories I’ve read.

I am not sure how to save this and I wouldn’t recommend it to my horror loving friends due to the places it fell flat in. I do hope to see more of the illustrator though, because I do enjoy their art style.

This book had a great plot and made me curious right from the start.

The art was okay-ish and the details weren't very clear but the story that feels like a folklore is the highlight and classy attraction about this book. The plot was well thought out and the premise was well set but I just wish the story and the ending would just live up to it.

I found that the whole graphic novel had so much potential but somehow it was not really showcased.

I really like the concept of this story but I wish it was longer. I loved the art style.

This is based on a boy who follows his friend into a hunted forest even though he been warned by the locals to not go in.

One of the things that did annoy me was that there was a lot of Romain that wasn’t translated unless it’s supposed to be a mystery to us as reader as to what the folklore is really about. But I feel like it would of been better if most of it was translated, even at the end of the graphic novel.

Thanks NetGalley and the Publisher for providing me an arc for a honest review.

Thankyou for the ARC

What a neat little horror story, I felt like it was a couple of Grim Brothers type of stories rolled into one with a fun little ‘uncover the mystery’ involved

Definitely recommend for October Halloween reading

This is a perfect time of year to read this spooky short story. The graphics weren't my usual preferred art style but I appreciate that it was well done.

This was a cool concept! I wish it was longer. I am not a graphic novel kind of person, but the graphics were done really well. When I started to really get into it, it was over.

The story was short but very intriguing. I was expecting a dracula retelling but I'm glad it wasn't! Really enjoyed the mysterious and dark vibe and the art style is also very fitting!

**Disclaimer: I recieved a free eARC of this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this opportunity.  I found this really creepy in an ominous sort of way.  The premise was interesting, and I found the small town setting with the spooky woods really added to the creepy vibes.  It was quick and fast-paced.  The monster was really spooky, and I loved the unresolved ending of the story.

This is a quick-paced graphic novel about the legend of the Iele in Romania. Adam travels to the forest to find his friend who has gone missing. All the villagers warn Adam to flee, as no one who has gone into the forest and come back out has been sane. Most of them just disappear into the forest never to be seen again. Adam doesn't want to believe that these people are serious, this is all just rumors and lore, and he is going into the woods. He is offered by one of the village girls to visit a man in the woods who has gone crazy after surviving the woods. He is offered to check the basement of this man's cottage to see one of the Iele, but he sees only an empty basement. In a swift conclusion, Adam becomes another statistic. This is a short novel with the briefest of introductions to the legends but definitely makes me want to dig into the legends more. The artwork is simple but elegant, it reminds me of another artist, but I cannot think of their name at the moment. A fun book to read curled up in bed at night listening to the wind in the woods.

Whisper of the Woods is a beautifully illustrated creepy tale of a man looking for his missing friend, who has disappeared in some supernatural woods. Dang! That ending, though! I really liked this story. It was quick and well written and had the feel of a classic creepypasta! I almost would have loved to see the story expanded on a little bit! The story was pretty captivating and I found myself leaning closer and closer to the page as I read. A great, quick spooky season read!

Interesting story. I didn't really understand a lot of it and i wish it was longer so it could delve more into the story.

An eerie tale that stops a little short of being great. I LOVE folk horror and have not delved too deeply into Romanian folklore yet, so I was excited for Whisper of the Woods from the get-go. The creepy tale unfolds just how I like it, with a bleak ending that leaves you uncomfortable. At first, I was surprised by the art style cause I'm used to seeing similar styles in cute, lighthearted stories. It totally works though, and Iurov creates some beautiful and eerie visuals. They very obviously are a capable artist and know how to use panels for pacing and flow.

What ultimately holds Whisper of the Woods back is its length. Building up atmosphere and making us care about characters in just under 100 pages is hard to do and I feel like some plot points ended up rushed and underdeveloped as a result, especially the man supposedly holding an Iele captive in his basement. While I like that some things are left ambiguous (e.g. the complacency of the townsfolk), I wish the characters had been a little more fleshed out to make the narrative more emotionally compelling and thus haunting.

I think Whisper of the Woods could've been really amazing if it had been a little longer and had been pushed a tad more. I could totally imagine it as part of a horror anthology based on Romanian folklore (and sincerely hope Ennun Ana Iurov plans to create one). I want to give this 4 stars very very badly, but have to settle for 3 and am definitely gonna keep up with Iurov's projects; in my opinion, they show great potential both as a writer and an artist.
