A different kind of mystery for me. I did enjoy the hard boiled noir aspect of the book. Even though it is book 3, the author does a good job and referring to past occurrences so that a new reader can still follow along. I'd go back to read the others and would read future titles.

Welcome to the world of '50s PIs with Tommy Fortuna and Viviane Valentine on a posh estate attempting to discover the source of weird noises. Soon the death of one of the houseguests has the two detectives enmeshed in a complex plot where everyone had secrets and some of them have secret identities. Overall quite enjoyable but at times the sounds of the slang and patois from that era/genre seemed a little forced and a little tiresome.

I enjoy Viviana Valentine "girl friday" mysteries - the setting of 1950's New York is a fairly unique one in historical cozy mysteries and I enjoy the character voices. Viviana has just the right amount of spunk and the side characters are really funny and have their own lives which I enjoy.
