I received The Blizzard's Secrets from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review and I read it so quickly, I was sad to see it end. I think there could be so much more world building to dive deeper into the characters and Taliver. I want to know more about how they came to be in this place, surrounded by a tundra and about all the intertwining secrets. More than anything, I gave this story 4 stars because it felt slightly unfinished. That's not a bad thing in any way, it pushes me to want to more about the world DJanee started to create and I hope she will continue to explore her voice in future writing adventures.
Synopsis: Daia, the soon to be Commander of the Forces, is dedicate to the people of Taliver. When she uncovers a secret about the previous Seer's death, her curiosity pushes her to know more and uncover the truth. However, there are some people who do not want the truth to be revealed, so can she survive long enough to have her voice heard?
This book had such great potential, but the ending just left so much to be desired and more questions

The Blizzard’s Secrets was sadly not for me.
There were parts of the story that I did enjoy, namely the way that every time you discovered something, yet another secret revealed itself. The more you find out about this world and its politics, the more questions you have.
This leads to my main issue with the story. I feel like I know almost nothing about the world or the characters. There was a huge lack of world building in this story. In a similar vein, I feel like I knew even less about the characters. There was never any time to get to know our narrator Daia. She was always in a linear path towards the plot with no diversions that showed personality or relationships she had with people in the town. We never saw any motivations besides her duty.
Overall, the world of Taliver just felt too small and could’ve benefited from more fleshed out world building and character development.
The cliffhanger at the end tho…I do want to know what happens next…
I'll start with: HUGE CLIFFANGER AT THE END.
Now that you now that, let's talk about the book in general, I think the story was well written and the author really put some time in creating this world/story. The world building was amazing. I enjoyed everything about her journey of Daia. The author was giving us enough details to keep us reading but at the same time, I wanted more and more. It's one of my favorite young adult books of the year!
Daia as a character grew a lot, especially when she started questioning some stuff I was like, yes girl!! GO!!!
Can't wait for book 2
