Team Cheese is on the case again. Willa Bauer reconnects with old co-workers when the Northwest Cheese Invitational is scheduled for the town where Willa has opened Curds & Whey, her own cheese shop.
The invitational is honoring Max Dumas after his death. He created a unique, special and valuable cheese and his employees hope that he has shared the secret of its creation in his will. The formula could lead to fame and fortune for the person who inherits it.
When the will proves a disappointment, the co-workers, Max's daughter, and the president of the cheese organization need to find another way to find the cheese. Willa doesn't want the cheese but finds herself in the middle of things when it is learned that a book Max gave her when she left to open her own shop is filled with clues.
When one of the co-workers is murdered, Willa realizes that this is a secret someone is willing to kill for. And since a former dating partner is under suspicion because his mead was the murder weapon which killed highly-allergic-to-honey Kendall, Willa has to get involved despite the problems it will cause with potential date Detective Heath.
The story was fun. The characters were interesting. And the recipes in the back for some of the cheese treats enjoyed during the story sound good too.
Great characters and interesting story. Very enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
Cheese store owner Willa Bauer returns in this latest book in the series readying to meet her former coworkers as they gather for a cheese conference that will include the honoring of her late mentor. Questions over his will about who will inherit his store are dwarfed by the question over who will inherit his secrets to making an award winning bleu cheese. When someone dies Willa is drawn into the investigation, trying to make sense of clues to its location along with her ‘Team Cheese’. The small town California setting is charming, and the food descriptions delicious. I did get annoyed a time or two when Willa neglected to pass on what could be relevant information to the police, even in conversations between she and Detective Heath. I have to agree with him that she and her friends take matters too far, but, it’s fiction, so overall the stretching the boundaries can be occasionally overlooked. I will say I normally read police procedurals, so the use of “oh, huckleberry” as an expletive got to be a bit too cute. This is a perfect series for to enjoy for a few hours with a light mystery, there were plenty of viable suspects, and recipes at the end too.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy.
This is the fourth book in the series and I loved it just as much as the other three. I love the character development that has taken place throughout the series as well as the entertaining mystery plots in each book. Highly recommend this whole series, especially on audiobook as the narrator (for the first 3, I assume she will be for this one as well) makes the characters come alive!
What a fun book. I enjoyed the characters, the setting, the story. It also rekindled my enjoyment of the better cheeses out there. I love that recipes are included. Thank you
"What in the bleu blazes is happening in Yarrow Glen now?
Cheesemongers from across the Northwest have come to the Sonoma Valley for the Northwest Cheese Invitational. As owner of the local cheese shop, Curds and Whey, Willa Bauer loves it. The event showcases custom cheese creations, and it's the perfect time to gather with old colleagues to honor her former boss, the late and grate cheese legend, Max Dumas. He was famous for journeying into the wild bleu yonder to where he aged his award-winning custom Church Bleu. Only Max knew the recipe and location to his beloved cheese, and many are eager to have these revealed at his will reading.
But instead of naming someone to inherit his cheese and its secrets, Max stuns everyone with one cryptic clue. When a fellow cheesemonger dies under mysterious circumstances - the woman they all thought would get the secrets to Max's prized possession - everyone falls under suspicion. Willa adores Church Bleu as much as the next cheese connoisseur, but it's not to die for. Is a killer trying to get away with murder...and the cheese?"
Yeah, I'm a sucker for cheese based crimes...
This fourth book in the Cheese Shop Mysteries is a solid installment in the series. It is a fun series with great characters and clever plots. It's a quick, page-turner type of book.
At the Northwest Cheese Invitational, local cheese shop owner Willa Bauer, meets up with former co-workers also in attendance. Much time is spent trying to track down the details (recipe and aging location) for the award-winning bleu cheese her late boss, Max, was known for. Before too long, tracking down the bleu cheese details based on clues Max left behind is not the only thing Willa and her loyal friends, Team Cheese, are trying to figure out.
Highly recommended to cozy fans!!
I received an advance copy of the book via NetGalley (as I have the previous volumes in the series).
A Case of Bleus is the fun fourth book in a series set in a fictional small town in northern California, where Willa Bauer owns a French-styled cheese shop and has a habit of solving murders. In this book, a big regional cheese conference is being held in her town and is going to celebrate the life of a former boss of hers who recently died--but is it really a memorial, or a chance for greedy scrambling? A number of people--employees, a cheese association head honcho, an estranged daughter--all have a stake in the fate of the boss's famous blue cheese. No one else knows how it was made or where it was aged, and the secret is supposed to be revealed during a will-reading at the conference. When someone is murdered and Willa starts getting clues about the blue cheese, she relies on her loyal group (Team Cheese!) to find out whodunnit.
The book is a fun, breezy read. There were a few points where the cheese lingo felt awkward and the plot forced, but overall, it was highly enjoyable, with a nicely complicated resolution.
Willa and her staff at Curds & Whey are getting ready for a huge cheese convention. She is going to honor her former mentor and friend Max, who held the recipe for a one-of-a-kind Blue Cheese. The employees of Max's store are expecting that one of them will inherit his secret aging location and recipe.
None of them do.
This leads them to a race to not only find the secrets of the blue cheese, but also solve a murder or two.
I found myself starting my next read and juxtaposing .the characters for this book into the new read, not part of this series.... a true sign of a connection to the characters. I picked this book up while waiting for the next in the previous series. Those will have to wait so I can read more about Willa and her friends. I missed the first book, that will be rectified soon!
I was given the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoy the setting of these mysteries, and this one kept me guessing! Felt like everyone had legit reasons to be the culprit. As someone who has only read 2/4 in the series, my only criticism would be that if something that happened in a previous book is referenced frequently in a new book, it be explained better for readers who may have missed an installment.
This book was a page turner I enjoyed this story and could not put it down. Cheese recipes that are mouth watering and an action packed mystery it was a lot of fun. Willa and her friends at the cheese shop are showing old friends her shop and talking about her old employer who just passed. Her friends still work at the cheese shop where she used to work and are there for a reading of the will. A mystery of who gets the shop and a famous cheese Max left behind and a murder of one of the employees leaves Willa in the middle of a murder.
This is the first book by this author that I've read. It's the 4th book in this Cheese Shop Mystery series. I love cheese and cozy mysteries; so, this was a fun book to read. It was a fast-paced, page-turner read. I read it all in one go from start to finish without stopping. I like the main character and loved reading the description of her cheese shop and the food box/plate that she puts together for events. The cast of characters in this mystery was great and the sleuthing that took place was fun to read with my trying to guess who the murderer was. This is an enjoyable, cozy mystery. Thank you, Net Galley, and the publisher for the ARC.
Case of the Bleus is the 4th in the Cheese Shop Mysteries series. The lead character is Willa Bauer who opens her own cheese shop, Curds & Whey, in the first book, Cheddar Off Dead (which won the Agatha Award for Best First Novel). The plot revolves around a murder, the cheese shop, and the characters in the small town of Yarrow Glen. Book #2, Gone for Gouda, continues that plot trend integrating her employee, Archie, more deeply into the events. Moss' humor begins to really shine as she aptly uses the play on words, gouda for good.
Curds of Prey is book #3. Again, the plot involves murder wrapped around the wedding of some of Yarrow Glen's elite. Which leads us to book #4: Case of the Bleus. The basic plot is preordained: murder and the Cheese shop. The setting is the Northwest Cheese Invitational held in the Sonoma Valley. Willa gets a chance to showcase Curds and Whey, especially to her former colleagues. This time, murder is wrapped around cheese - literally.
Familiar characters, familiar plot, great light mystery writing all lead to an enjoyable book you won't be able to put down. Brave Ms. Moss! I look forward to the 5th installment. Maybe Willa and Heath . . .
Cozy Mysteries are peer comfort for me… to find a series that I get so excited for a new release feels like a gift!!! A the cheese shop mysteries hit it out of the park every time!
At this point Yarrow Glen feels like coming home! Sleuthing with the OGs and getting introduced to new character/shops is always fun! I recommend these to anyone that wants to read a perfect escape with a strong sense of place and characters you will want to revisit over and over again!

The death of Willa's former employer caused an uproar in the cheese community as the Northwest Cheese Invitational loomed and everyone awaited to see who inherited the recipe for his famous Church Bleu cheese. Instead, he left clues to find it but at first all that was found was a murdered man. The publisher's blurb hooked me and the story kept me guessing all the way to the recipes at the end. Good read!
I requested and received an EARC from the St. Martin's Press/St. Martin's Paperbacks via NetGalley. Thank you!
This book has me salivating for cheese. Who knew there were so many types, and so many different ways it could be used? I enjoy the story. The characters were engaging, and I liked Max's riddles. But, some of the plot lines were very predictable.
First off - thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an e-arc of this book! I was so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to read the next book in one of my favorite series early!
This series is one of the hands down best cozy mystery series out there. It has sprinkles of romance, friendship, and of course delicious cheeses (with actual recipes in the back). While I could rave about this series in general all day, I want to make sure I talk directly about Case of the Bleus, the 4th in the series.
First off, this may have been my favorite so far. In addition to the murder mystery aspect of any cozy, this book had the added element of finding the elusive Church Bleu cheese! This part of the book gave it an Indiana Jones-ish feel and I loved that so much! As you were solving the murder with the characters you were also trying to figure out where this elusive cheese was. I cannot tell you how much I loved the epilogue as they wrapped up their search for the cheese.
Another component I loved about this 4th installment in the series was the friendships. I love how Korina dives more into each individual friendship Willa has not just with her staff but the people in the town. There are elements of romance, but this book was not about that, it was about friends. I always love a book that focuses on friendships and the strengthening of those, and this one did that in so many ways!
Finally - I adored (as always) all the different cheese references that these books have. I am SUCH a cheese addict and while I am not someone who understands all the different types of cheese and their quality, I love learning about them in these cozy mysteries! I actually went out and tried Bleu Cheese because of this book and surprisingly I loved it! (I had previously thought I disliked it... so what a fun surprise!) There is always the added element of cheese recipes in the back of the books in this series as well and I love that!
Again, I cannot say enough good things about this book and this series in general! It is so well written and will make you want to go open a small cheese shop of your own (serious - it will!).
Cheese cheese who has the cheese??? When Max Dumas ,invented of the prize winning Church Bleu cheese, passes his current team is certain he left that prize winning recipe to one of them. His enstranged daughter is sure he left it to her. When Kendall Waterstone is murdered they are all certain it was her that got the recipe. But it's Willa Bauer who keeps getting the clues Who is Rebecca and what clues does she hold ? Will Willa and Team Cheese ever find the answers to those clues and track down the killer or killers of her friend Kendall? Wonderful and exciting cast of characters. A surprise ending as well.
The second Book about Willa and her Cheese Shop. And again there are murders happening and she has to solve them with her Friends.. I m looking forward to the next Book.
'Case of the Bleus' is the first book I have read by Korina Moss and her A Cheese Shop Mystery series. I learned so much about cheese and the passion for it that was well-portrayed in the book. There was a unique technique of a mystery within the mystery and Willa's now deceased former boss Max's treasure hunt for the technique of producing his prized cheese the Church Bleu. Finally there is a romantic tension that is painfully unresolved and will have me anxiously awaiting more. I look forward to it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
