A girl has been missing for thirteen years, at an annual All Hallows’ Eve party, an innocent man put away for the crime he didn’t commit. Now thirteen years later a group of unusual people are brought together for one last Hallows Eve gathering but this one is to solve which one of them did commit the crime.
Really fascinating, I really enjoyed the hodge-podge of characters that get put together to create this story. They were all so intriguing and the way they were woven together was so fascinating. Each one with a history and a story, each one being the perfect suspect and making your curiosity grow at each turn.
I really loved Dewey’s addition to it, he wasn’t supposed to be there but was the hidden link. He was so clever and crafty and was able to piece together way more than anyone else could, he risked so much by trying to get to the bottom of the whole case and I really loved following along as he was solving it.
The storyline was incredible, the deep rooted mystery and the way that each character helped to unfurl the whole mystery was so wondrous. I loved that we had small clues but nothing solid to pin point exactly who, why or what. You literally had to follow along the story to figure it out.
I was trying to solve everything myself as I was reading it and I had my suspicions right from the first introduction of characters, though I had no solid proof it was who I believed. It was so fun, I kept getting new hints and ideas but my main suspects stayed the same throughout the story. I loved solving this mystery.
I honestly loved this story so much, it was kind of eerie, it had a fun fable tale storyline which really added to it. The characters were all so intriguing and added so so much to figuring out the mystery. I loved the way it continued even after it ended, leaving your mind to still wander.
I highly recommend this mystery every aspect of it was so craftily written and it’s so much fun to read and solve yourself, you get fun twists and turns and it so unique you’ll be swept up into the mystery instantly.
What a fun story! The Curious Vanishing of Beatrice Willoughby was the perfect amounts of mysterious and strange. When Beatrice Willoughby goes missing at the Amadeus’s All Hallows’ Eve party, the Amadeuses are blamed, and their famous parties come to an end. But when mysterious invitations are sent out thirteen years later to a select few, those guests can’t restrain their curiosity. Once there, they discover that one of them is the guilty party, and it is up to them to figure out who and restore the Amadeuses good name.
The characters in this story really came alive! I loved how their backstories are woven in through a storyteller with the feel of the Grimms brothers. This story is both old-timey, and fresh. It feels like it might have happened long ago, or perhaps last year. Present-day gadgets are intermingled with old-time storytelling and magic, and the results are so fun.
The mystery and clues kept me guessing from start to finish, and now that I’m done, I want to go back and re-read to pick up on all the things I missed. Kids will love the fantastical presentation of the story, and the characters who are all hiding something. I’m definitely hoping for a second book!
This was a delightful story, I enjoyed the inclusion of the various fairy tale elements, and the characters were well-developed. The mystery was well written with plenty of clues, which helped narrow the suspect pool, as well as some red herrings which threw me off enough to keep the solution from being too obvious and the story from becoming stale.
Overall a well-written and enjoyable story for middle grades up to adults. I will recommend this to all the children in my life.
A fun locked-door mystery with just the right amount of twists and turns. The world building is excellent - a fun blend of old and new - with some fun nods to familiar fairy tales thrown in for good measure. A nice mix of characters, a smart child detective, and a just enough Halloween spookiness make this a fun read for any kid. A good fit for classroom and school libraries.
What a delight this book was for both my grandson and I! At the Amadeuses' annual Halloween party, six year old Beatrice Willoughby disappears. Thirteen years later invitations go out to select citizens of Nevermore. The group are all considered suspects and the real culprit must be found. Quirky characters, A delightful story plot, twists and turns and a bevy of suspects make this an utterly delightful read. Thanks #Netgalley and #HolidayHouse #Peachtree for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
Since six-year-old Beatrice Willoughby disappeared from the Amadeuses' annual All Hallow's Eve party, the couple have shut their doors. Now, thirteen years later, selected citizens of Nevermore receive an invitation to the mansion. Once there, the group are all suspects and the real perpetrator must be sussed out before midnight to free Mort Amadeus from his wrongful imprisonment. Enter two travelers: Chaucer O'Connell and his inquisitive son,Dewey. Young readers will be unravel the clues to find out what happened to Beatrice and who did it.
I really liked the colourful, vibrant cover, and the book's description intrigued me.
This was a fun read - quirky and entertaining, with some fun characters. Halloween is a theme in this story, which gave it a slightly spooky feel, and I liked that. It was an entertaining story, and something about it reminded me a little bit of Tim Burton films. I think my 10 year old self would have really liked this, too.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
I enjoyed this so much. Such a vivid and magical story with allure of a cozy mystery. Our characters were lovely and I loved the world I felt transported to.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This was a fantastic read and I couldn’t put it down! I like how the book kept you guessing. I like how it has the feel of Grimm’s fairy tales in some chapters. Kids will have fun trying to figure out what happens.
This was a cute, middle grade who-done-it. Very quirky and mysterious characters—they made the book for me!
The who-done-it kept me guessing. I thought I had it pegged. But, in the end, it turned out that I picked a villain, but it was the wrong villain!
Lots of fun. Middle grade readers will really enjoy this one.
Such a fun book for all ages and I could not put it down. I enjoy a book that introduces me to a cast of fun, eclectic characters and lets the story unfold in a very "Clue" or "Who-Dun-It" fashion. It is a very fun, quick read with lots of twists, turns, and problems to solve.
13-years after a young girl went missing from an All Hallows Eve party, several of the original guest are invited back to the Amadeus Manor to solve the crime for which an innocent man stands accused. The group have until midnight when the statute of limitation runs out, to solve the mystery and set free the wrongly convicted.
I received this book as an advance reader copy in return for an honest review and I can not say enough good things about it. A copy of this book will probably end up being gifted to my niece and nephew upon it's release and I hope they enjoy it as much as I did.
