The Burnout hit really close to home for me. The writing was beautiful and I felt nostalgia for a place I have never visited and people I have never met.
Loved this book! A little slow at the beginning but absolutely came together. I loved how it showed real life problems including normal miscommunication. It was a cute lighthearted read!
Sophie Kinsella is one of my absolute favorite authors! The Burnout was so funny. I had tears rolling down my face in the beginning with her running with the nuns. As the book goes on you realize there are heavy topics but in true Sophie fashion it is delivered with sparkling characters and quirky writing. Once again, I can't wait for her next one!
Loved loved loved "The Burnout" by Sohpie Kinsella. The book opens with Sasha having a mental health crisis (which I think was written to come across as light-hearted, but actually left me concerned that none in Sasha's immediate social/family cirlce took it as serious as it was - the doctors didn't even have her do therapy)....anyway - Sasha goes to a seaside resort in February for a break. At the resort, she meets up with Finn - who is also on a mental health break. Throw in a little mystery that wasn't really a mystery, some surfing (in February??), and we have two people falling for each other....eventually. Fun read! Plenty of laugh out loud moments. I only wish the author would have taken the time to be a little more serious with Sasha's mental health issues.
This is one of my favorite Sophie Kinsella's of recent years. I really enjoyed the main character and her laugh out loud awkward moments. I enjoyed seeing the relationship evolve between the two MCs, but also liked the character arc for our FMC throughout the story.
Loved this romance! It was witty, a great premise, and delightful characters that made you want to read more! The plot and character development were intricately woven together and made you want to keep reading to the end!
The Burnout is an adorable meet-cute where two humans who have made work their life find each other in a blast from the past-like twist. This sweet story really gives “it’s a small world” new meaning.

Overall, an easy, quick read! Great for a poolside afternoon. If you’re a fan of this author, check it out. If you’re not, I’d probably skip it. 3.5 🌟’s rounded UP!
I love the way this book displayed burnout! It’s so hard to put that feeling into words but the way this was written was amazing!!
Though the title doesn't give it away, this is actually the perfect summer beach read since they are at the beach too. It made me want to take a vacation and do yoga on the beach. It gave me the same warm fuzzy feels and an Elon Hilderbrand Nantucket book, but across the pond. I love this book and it was a five star for me.
I will never say no to a Sophie Kinsella book! I have a shelf lined with her novels. Her writing is consistent and her characters always are sweet, fun and relatable. Perfect to pick up on your way to the beach!
I want to thank NetGalley, Sophia Kinsella and Random House Publishing Group - Random House | The Dial Press for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.
I love watching Sophie Kinsella move beyond the Shopaholic series (which I admittedly loved) and find her characters in difficult situations with her classic humor. Although I desperately wished Sasha would have spoken up about the damn green juices, I loved watching these characters find their way to themselves and each other.
The Burnout details a few different concepts, but starting with the obvious, career burnout. Sasha works for a start up and has been operating in burnout for a while, but one day the straw that breaks the camel’s back, causes her to literally run away from her workplace. It’s decided that she needs some time to recuperate and she takes time to visit an old family vacation spot in the offseason. It’s there she meets Finn. At first it appears they are oil and water, but eventually form a friendship.
From there, the two get involved in the local culture and devote some time to remembering the place as they knew it as children. There is a mystery they solve, and decide the pay homage to an old teacher that impacted them hugely, while Sasha ends up finding out some things about Finn she believes will stagnate their relationship, and decides to distantly continue to be his friend.
I enjoyed the book, as I always love the banter and humor of Miss Kinsella. I had a hard time tying in the various themes and goings on, as it felt a little disconnected, however I would still 100% recommend this title. It’s a fun summer read, it’s not too heavy and in the end, everyone is happy.
The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella is a fun rom com. This book starts out strong with the most absurdly hilarious scenes that make Ms Kinsella’s writing shine. Once the main character makes it to her mandatory holiday location, the story seems to lag quite a bit and takes a while to get going again. If the reader persists, the second half of the book and the ending are well worth the wait. The ending is just perfect and full of revelations that make the story richer and fuller. I recommend this book to readers of rom coms. It’s a fun read! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I adored The Burnout, Sophie Kinsella’s latest book. Sasha, after months of working what feels like non-stop for a start up completely loses it one day at work… even considers joining a convent to get away from it all. After agreeing to take leave from work, she heads back to a beach resort she visited as a child. There she meets Finn, who she learns has also recently had a rough time at work. At the resort they quickly start receiving messages at the beach and wonder what the meaning is behind the messages and if they are meant for them. They soon learn they were at the beach at the same time when they were younger and work to uncover the mystery of the messages and try to heal from their individual issues in their jobs. This book was laugh out loud funny, and touching at the same time. Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for the early access to this book!
Sophie Kinsella is a consistently popular author for a reason, and The Burnout continues her string of successes. This book has a unique setting and cast of quirky characters, and I soon found myself under their spell.
Recommended for purchase by the Scottsboro Public Library.
“Just looking at the sea is a cure for…whatever.”
“Heartache. Burnout. Breakup. Fuckwit bosses. Whatever the trouble is. Come and sit here and look at the sea for a while, and just…” He exhales. “Breathe.”
Sasha is likable and sympathetic. I may have earnestly stuck with it because I’m going through my own burnout. I could identify with some of her feelings and was curious how she was going to find her way. BUT this was painfully slow and repetitive. So much could’ve been cut and edited in a way you’d never think Sasha is fast tracking or unrealistically processing her self discovery. The unique characters and humor are all there and the idea is good. Unfortunately someone should’ve recognized how drawn out it was and cut this in half. The bones and intent are there and worth skimming to the HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
Thank you to Random House - Dial Press for this ARC of The Burnout in exchange for an honest review. I tried to really enjoy this book on the basis that the characters did sound very interesting. However, it only had its moments. I was always waiting for Sasha and Finn to have the connection—any connection—but they just felt like they were put on page together because they had to be. The pacing did not help matters here. I do really like Sophie Kinsella, but I am not sure The Burnout is for me.
Sophie Kinsella's latest novel is a blend of humor, romance, and mental health issues. The story features engaging characters, including Simon, Nicolai, Cassidy, and Herbert, who all have unique personalities. The plot features two characters, Sasha Worth and Finn, who are burnt out and return to their childhood home. They become allies while deciphering a couple's mysterious notes and presents. Their bond deepens as they discover surfing and love it. The novel explores themes of connection, resilience, and self-discovery, with Kinsella's storytelling abilities on full display. The book serves as a delightful diversion and a reminder to find happiness in the most unlikely places.
Thank you so much to #netgalley and #randomhousepublishing for this ARC for an honest review.
Sophie Kinsella writes such fun, engaging, and immersive books and The Burnout is no exception. Sasha and Finn are an adorable couple that learn together, play together, and find happiness again through and with each other.
