Sophie Kinsella is *always* a must read for me and her latest, The Burnout did not disappoint!

This book honestly reminds me of her early reads - laugh-out-loud funny with characters that I can't resist!

It's so relatable - we're all stressed and could use a good holiday!

This book was just fun! An adorable rom-com, with laugh out loud parts, over the top ridiculousness and a sweet enemies to friends to lovers theme. The characters were amazing - flawed and frustrating, yet real and adorable. Their relationship is obvious to everyone else but them. Throw in a little mystery and drama and a LOT of personal growth and you will find yourself unable to put this book down. Such a relatable story, that makes you cry and laugh. A perfect lighthearted read that touches on some not so lighthearted topics.

After burning out at work and in life, Sasha finds herself at a seaside resort trying to mentally and physically heal. She finds the hotel is in shambles and she is sharing her beach with a grumpy Finn, who also seems incredibly stressed. When they start to find messages on the beach, they are forced to talk about themselves and their lives. Will the friendship they are building turn into more?

Thank you Netgalley for my advanced reader copy.

As someone who is currently in the midst of a burnout- I related to this so hard. Sasha had me loling constantly, when she just gets fed up with her job and tries to join a convent… seriously amazing. Then she takes a leave from work to get some much needed time away and rest, only to end up at a hotel that is waaay past its glory days and basically on the verge of disrepair. Here we get another cast of characters who are so quirky and off the wall, it just makes the story even funnier. There was of course a great love connection between Sasha and Finn, who bond over their mutual burnout breakdowns. Also provides great ways to deal with a burnout if you are close to experiencing or in midst of one. I might go to a crappy hotel on the beach to enjoy the solitude! Super fun book, Sophie Kinsella writes a great rom-com.

3.75 stars. Sophie Kinsella’s writing is so nostalgic to me! The Burnout follows Sasha on her quest to recover from burnout with a wellness vacation at the beach town she grew up visiting. Lots of hijinks and misunderstandings ensue as she learns she maybe doesn’t want manifestation or kale smoothies after all, but can’t quite work up the courage to admit that to the quirky, enthusiastic hotel staff. There’s romance, a charming small town coming together, and a lot of heart.
My major complaint is that this drags a bit, but I do think it’s intentional here. I’m maybe just accustomed to a tighter pacing, but this very much reads like a British rom com/ Sophie Kinsella novel. If you’re in the mood for a low stakes, lifetime movie romcom with humor and heart, this is a solid pick!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC provided for review!

The queen does it again!! Reading Sophie's books is always like a breath of fresh air but also coming back to your comfort. Once again, this book manages to be hilarious (AF), entertaining, wholesome, and romantic.

Sasha's character was a complete mood. I loved how she handled things everywhere & how effortlessly funny her voice was. Finn was a gentle grump who would win your heart immediately. I loved how snarky their banter was in the beginning.

And the subplot was so clever & wholesome. I loved all the nosy side characters & their quirks (so so so damn funny). In the end, the full-circle moment was everything.

Thank you Netgalley & Publisher for the arc, in exchange for an honest review.

If you can believe it this is my first book by this author . The title obviously caught my eye.. I feel we're all in burnout mode for one reason or another so I was super curious about this book & just like I thought it's super relatable. #TheBurnout is something we all can get behind l& understand to a degree .
I felt the beginning of this book sucked you in but by 30% you were kinda like ugh ok .. 🙄 then at 80% it picks up again. I love the premise of this story , loved all the quirky details & characters BUT imo this book was too long.

With that said I now have the sudden urge to go surfing & just chill on the beach , even with a kale smoothie . 🙃

Thanks #NetGalley for another arc 🤘

After literally hitting a brick wall, severely overworked Sasha Worth finds herself sent off by her mother to rejuvenate in the seaside town their family spent their summers in before her father died. Unfortunately for Sasha, not only is the formerly once glittering resort a crumbling shell of itself, her beach solitude is interrupted by Finn, a fellow burnout.

A chapter into Sophie Kinsella's 'The Burnout' and I was burned out by overworked heroine Sasha's life. Kinsella effortlessly satirises corporate culture, with the insane demands by Joanne, the empowerment officer, who devises meaningless corporate slogans as a box ticking exercise, rather than deal with the real systemic causes of worker burnout, such as understaffing and lack of management providing support and direction. Combined with a little intrigue involving hidden messages and gifts on the beach, possibly involving a shared past between Sasha and Finn, this book was a solid, poignant and fun read.

As always Kinsella provides the chuckles, such as a scene involved the nun chasing Sasha, the Pret cashier, and the running gag of the extremely officious hotel staff desperately trying to cater to Sasha's personal assistant's (read: mother) catering requests. However at times I find find this gag got old quickly. I would've liked to have seen Sasha stand up to her mother's continual overstepping with respects to her diet and exercise as part of Sasha learning to push back on all the pressures placed upon her both personally *and* professionally. While I understood her mother meant well, its often the demands and expectations of family that further add to burnout.

The slow burn friendship between Finn and Sasha was also delightful, as they re-discovered themselves away from the pressures of work. Overall this book was a delightful and relatable book skewering corporate culture.

Thanks to Random House and NetGalley for the ARC.

The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella is by far my favorite novel by her!
This is one of those books that feels very realistic but also provides a great escape from reality at the same time.
I really enjoyed these characters and their journey. The growth was just spectacular. The novel is filled with well developed supporting characters that you can’t help but love.
I found this story to be so entertaining to read.I literally laughed out loud multiple times.
Reading this book will be a delight for you. I was excited to get this book and it did not disappoint.

I was a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series so I was excited to get my hands on The Burnout and let’s be real - who isn’t burnt out these days?

At over 400 pages, this was a bit long for a romance but I enjoyed the enemy to lovers trope and Sasha and Finn were super relatable characters. I loved the overall theme of mental health and how so many of us are running on fumes these days whether due to work, family, etc. Overall, an enjoyable read,

Thanks to Netgalley and Random House for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Not my favourite Kinsella book, but a good read! I thought the story was a little too far fetched but it still had the classic laugh out loud moments all her books do, and a wonderful ending. Worth the read!

Thank you, NetGalley and Sophie Kinsella for letting me get the ARC for this book. The first time I came across Sophie Kinsella was through Net Galley which I appreciated it. The Burnout was very different to read and it took me a while to finish if I'm being honest. However, I pushed through it and ended up loving it.

As I mentioned before I wasn't sure at the beginning it felt like it wasn't getting anywhere until pretty much the end was when it picked up and I couldn't put it down. The main character Shasha became so much more relatable to how someone can normally feel. Burnout can be a serious thing to come across an individual. As a mom, I felt this so close to home. Coming out of a burnout can take some time. Someone can either need help or find themselves with no help. Either way, this book gave us her journey and I very much enjoyed it.

Overall, this book felt like a life lesson, self-discovery, resilience, and the power of connection with other people. I highly recommend this book when you are in a slump yourself. Burnout is a severe thing that can take someone out completely. There is no shame in getting help or trying to find yourself. I would have definitely given this a 5-star rating but since it took me longer to get through it I say 4-star is good. I would still recommend this book to my fellow readers.

Sadly this was not my favorite Sophie Kinsella. It felt overall incomplete to me and I was not interested in picking it up. Overall just very middle of the road.

Sophie Kinsella's newest novel centers around Sasha's fall from top of the line marketing expert for an exclusive, hip company to a burned out, hysterical mess with no sex drive and even less sleep. After Sasha very publicly tanks a plea to join the local convent, she retreats to a seaside resort she adored as a child. Even before Sasha arrives at the hotel, she encounters the uber grumpy Finn who, it seems, may be more stressed than Sasha. As Sasha begins her destress routine, "helped" by the admiring staff of the fading resort, she encounters a different side of Finn (also de-stressing at the resort), and some mysterious messages written in the sand. Can Sasha recover enough to make things right in her life? and who is leaving the mysterious messages and gifts? These are questions Kinsella answers with her usual wit and excellent characterization. I love Sophie Kinsella's books, the Shopaholic series and the stand-alones. The Burnout is the later and I urge you to pick it up as soon as you can. Fans of Jenny Colgan, Helen Fielding and Emily Henry will enjoy this book as will anyone who enjoys a fun, funny and introspective read. The Burnout would provide a lively discussion for Book Clubs too! Many, many thanks to Net Galley for the chance to read an ARC.

Sophie Kinsella NEVER disappoints. She is by far the funniest romcom author of all, and I literally chuckled out loud SO many times while reading The Burnout. As always, her characters are incredibly charming and quirky. This one really tugged at my heartstrings too and I choked up a whole bunch toward the end. As Terry the surf instructor says: The ride is IT. And I definitely enjoyed the ride while reading this book. Thank you, Sophie!

This book was so good! I really loved all of the characters. They were all so quirky and lovable and realistic. Sasha was an awesome FMC and I thought she was super relatable. There were some parts of this book that made me laugh out loud, which is not something that I do often when I’m reading. Sasha’s self-improvement journey was lovely, and I loved the depictions of father daughter relationships. Adding in some romance and a dash of mystery made this a super enjoyable and comforting read.

Thank you so much to Random House Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC! The Burnout is out on Tuesday October 10th!

I adore Sophie Kinsella. She is the British rom com queen! The name of the book really spoke to me. LOL.

This had the underrated trope of grumpyxgrumpy. Both Sasha and Finn were burnt out and needed a break.

I really liked having the fun connection that they both went to this hotel as a child but never noticed each other. We get hints of the past and how they are intertwined and it was really interesting to see.

We did have a lot of miscommunication in the third act so be warned. I feel like this author does that a lot and is very good about this trope, so it didn't bother me much tbh.

Kinsella is an auto buy author and I still can't believe I haven't read Confessions of a Shopaholic! I need to go to her backlist that I haven't read!

4/5

I have to say, I was happily surprised by this book. I have read several of this authors previous works, and think of them as light fluffy three star reads. This book, however was a solid four star read for me!

I loved the setting and supportive characters. They were quirky, interesting and charming.

This author has a great sense of humor, as seen with Sasha’s attempt to follow the steps touted by a online health guru and with the witty sarcastic banter between Sasha and Finn.

I’m also a sucker for an enemies to lovers romance, so this book definitely ticked all my boxes.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good rom-com.

Thank you to Random House and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book to read and review.

What started out as a book I thought would be a DNF became a book I contemplated getting the audiobook version of so I wouldn't have to put it down. The romance does feel a bit rushed, as we are told about their rapid escalation of interest and not shown, which could have been better demonstrated with dual perspectives. Odd choice, but it did keep the reader guessing "what does he think?" just like the MC.

Cute, heartwarming, mostly-closed door romance sure to fill the need for a cozy read.

I loved Kinsella's shopaholic series so much that I was super excited to read this. This book felt different. I couldn't figure out exactly what it was, but I think it's partly to do with the fact that I've grown up a lot since Shopaholic.

I also found it really hard to connect with both the MCs. Burnout had such a promising premise and I was so excited to see where it would go, as it's something I can relate to personally. Unfortunately the writing and characters just felt lackluster and didn't hook me in as much as I'd have liked.

I did eventually finish this and it did sort of get better at the end, hence the 3 stars. However the romance still felt super rushed.

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an ARC through NetGalley. As always, my opinions are entirely my own.
