Sophie Kinsella you beautiful, beautiful woman. I’m trying to figure out how she manages to write so many books that make me laugh and cry at the same time.
This book. Wow, just wow. I was absolutely so touched by the end, my heart felt so full. The way Kinsella is able to write such relatable characters and create a storyline that’s so captivating you feel like you’re a part of it, is insane. This book was pure magic. I loved it so much, which I can only expect now when reading one of her books.
The Burnout was a mix of hilarious, touching, and relatable. The way the characters really turn their lives around is so inspirational. Not to mention all the staff at the hotel had me laughing out loud. I loved them so much.
The romance, as always, was incredibly well done. It’s the flirty banter that gets me in the end. It’s just so funny and the chemistry leaps off the page!
Kinsella introduced me to my love of romance and I have to say she continues to deliver. One of my all time favorite authors.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. This book comes out October 10th!
Thank you to The Dial Press for the privilege of reading the latest Sophia Kinsella romcom. I love her funny witty characters, and The Burnout does not disappoint. Sasha and Finn are both seeking solace in a quaint little beach town they both spent summers at as a child, As adults they are both needing a break from their respective lives. They are practically the only tourists visiting off season, and are bound to hit it off after a rocky start. The supporting characters at The Rilston Inn where they are both staying definitely add humor, and the mystery of whose leaving messages on the beach is a fun twist. This is definitely another hit by Sophia Kinsella.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have always been a fan of Sophie Kinsella. I think her books are what started me on my adult Romance reading journey. I have every single one and have always loved them.
This book was no different: I adored it. To start with such a relatable topic, one that a lot of us have experienced in our lives, of burnout, of feeling like we are stuck and then add in all these wonderful, vibrant characters and settings. The hotel and the people there made me smile and laugh so much. It was something out of a comedy of errors: so many quirky things and people everywhere you turned. The characters were all people I wanted to meet in real life. Except Joanne. Not her. And the story of Terry and the surf lessons and the accident and the young lovers painting. It only added to the wonderful story that was developing between Sasha and Finn. I do love characters named Finn. Something about that name.
I really enjoyed this story. A wonderful flight hearted, poignant tale with a band of characters you want to be real and a setting you want to visit.
The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella releases on Tuesday, October 10.
📚The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 ~ 4.5 stars (4 on Goodreads)
Sasha is burnt out - her job is relentless, the emails pile up with no end in sight, her boss just doesn’t get it and she has had it - she has hit a wall (literally). Oh yeah - and her sex drive is gone. On a forced sabbatical her mother sends her to her childhood vacation spot, a beach resort town where she had learned to surf, played in the sand with her sister and just had a general sense of calm and happiness, all before her father died when she was a teenager.
When she arrives the hotel is not what she expects (I have to leave some things for when you read the book), the staff is quirky and there is another guest (you guessed it) who is handsome and rude and recovering from his own burnout.
This was my first Kinsella book but my friends seem to love her and so I dove in head first and loved it! It was a super sweet and cute rom com with all the predictability and fun one expects from it. I thought the characters were fun and I enjoyed every minute of it! I have already put a bunch of hers on my TBR!

After a work Burnout, it's time for a cute romantic comedy.
Sasha's job has become extremely overwhelming. She burns out, ends up in the emergency room and the doctor orders her some time away from work. Her mom books her a room at a hotel they used to go as a kid and there she meet an annoying man who is struggling with his job too. Finn and her bump heads in the beginning but realize they both have a similar situation and start spending time together.
I was really liking the quirkiness of this book, the silliness to the situations until I got to the 75% mark and it was just so different. I think the whole 3rd act was awful. (minor spoiler ahead) I think it was silly for him to find out that he is actually the guy in the picture and the way the lady was trying to hit on him (gross). I didn't like how she found out he had a girlfriend he broke up with before going to the trip. I just didn't like that whole third act.
Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
After a major meltdown at work (can you blame her when HR’s answer to being overburdened is to work on her joy ness at work mood board???), Sasha flees to the sleepy beach town where her family had vacationed when she was a child. Though time has changed the town and it’s signature hotel, Sasha eventually settles in…. And may find love, or even more importantly, her self again. A quick read with some memorable side characters.
Note: thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Burnout is an ode to every woman who made a grand plan and woke up with not enough energy to execute.
Gosh that was cute and disturbingly relatable. The start is so relatable, you’re immediately hooked. Sasha is a bit high strung and excitable from her burnout (almost to a point of being annoying). Her character thoughts are hilariously on-point. I adored the goofy cast of characters and the focus on her character arc well before you meet the romantic interest. The subplot was excellent as well. And man, I need an old man Terry in my life.
Exhausted by workplace stress, Sasha seeks escape at a seaside resort. But it's the off-season, and the only company is Finn, a grumpy stranger. Can this worn-out beach rekindle Sasha's zest for life? Or will her attempts at yoga, smoothies, and inner peace crumble like the decrepit hotel?
This over-the-top rom com is vivid and funny with quirky characters and an engaging plot.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Sophie Kinsella’s books are always a guaranteed fast and enjoyable read, and this is no exception. The Burnout follows Sasha Worth who works a mundane office job and is experiencing intense burn-out with work, relationships, food, and life in general. Maybe a holiday is what she needs. She heads to a seaside town she and her family used to visit every summer when she was growing up. She seeks refuge at a grand hotel that has fallen on hard times. She meets Finn who is also staying at the hotel to recover from some burnout of his own. While healing from burnout Sasha and Finn forge a friendship and reconnect with the town and surrounding area. I found myself laughing and also very touched by the characters and storyline. 5 enthusiastic stars!

The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella is about a woman named Sasha who is at her wits end at work. She’s overworked, undervalued, and can’t find anyone who cares. After fleeing her office and having a meltdown that lands her at the hospital, she is given a three week break from work and heads to the Rilston, a resort in the town she used to vacation as a child with her family. While her stay here is a comedy of errors, she meets a man suffering burnout as well. Will they recover? Will they solve the mystery of the confusing messages appearing on the beach? What happened their last summer in the area as children?
I loved this book. It was hard for me to start; reading about Sasha’s burnout symptoms gave me anxiety and I had to put it down. Once I kept reading I couldn’t put it down and was deeply invested in Sasha’s story. The plot flowed, and Sasha was very well written. I would have liked a bit more detail about Finn’s life, but as it was Sasha’s story, I still felt all loose ends were tied up neatly.
Thank you to the publishers and Net Galley for access to an advanced copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Another enjoyable book from Sophie Kinsella! A fun story with great characters!
Sasha has burned out at work, and freaks out about answering another lame email. She leaves her company and decides to take a holiday break. She goes back to the village her family used to vacation in, before her father's death. She's booked into the town's high class hotel, only to find it's slightly lacking these days - the hotel employees are hilarious characters and it's a fun setting. There is meets up with another burn out on a holiday, Finn. They keep getting thrown together and it's a slow burn romance. They discover their paths passed years ago at a surfing camp there.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
Sasha is burnt tf out on everything. The Burnout follows her journey of realizing she can’t continue to live like this any longer, and figuring out how to grow. I giggled quite a few times while reading thinking “SAME.”
Overall, this was a worthwhile story. Two people that are absolutely fried, healing and realizing they have the power to make changes in their lives. I did find myself kind of bored at times, and I think there were a bunch of side plots that were just kinda “meh” for me, that caused me to lose interest. The characters were relatable and it was a cute read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC! The Burnout comes out on Oct 10th in the US!
I really loved this book for the personal growth of Sasha’s! I feel like everyone can relate to being just burnt out and done sometimes with life. Not to mention there were some downright hysterical aspects to her journey that had me cackling! I didn’t like her relationship with Finn at all though. It just didn’t click for me the way I wanted it to. Probably because their relationship featured my least favorite trope- miscommunication! All in all, I highly recommend this book if not for the romance, then for the bad a$$ girl power and strength!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Disappointed. I realize my opinion is far from being in the majority but that’s how I feel after finishing Kinsella’s latest novel. I love this author and the blurb had huge potential. I mean, two burned-out people retreating to their childhood happy place and connecting there? Yes, please. Mental health awareness? Yes, please. But, sadly, I couldn’t connect with either Sasha or Finn, and the humorous parts seemed forced and unrealistic; it was scripted as if saying, “here, laugh here.”
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read the ARC, my désappointement will however not prevent me from picking the next Kinsella.
I love Sophie Kinsella, but this book took me forever to read. It was enjoyable while I was reading it, but I never raced back to it. Maybe I'm just suffering through my own book burnout.
Sasha has had it with work. She has endless emails to answer, a boss who doesn't listen, and a company that is severely understaffed. When she has a massive meltdown, Sasha realizes it's time for a break. She heads to the resort town that her family used to visit. Once there she meets a handsome guy,Finn, that is struggling himself, finds a mystery to solve, and reconnects with some of the people from her past.
This book had a lot going on. There's the main issue of Sasha and her lost will to be a productive member of society. I probably connected most with this part. Who among us has never wanted to literally run away from life at some point? I liked the focus on mental health and creating a healthy work/life balance. The romance with Finn was sweet, but definitely a side plot. He was very secretive throughout the book so it felt like it was hard to get to know him. After that we also have the side characters at the beach resort and the mystery on the beach. The side characters offered a bit of comic relief and laugh-out-loud moments. I could have personally used some editing out of the side plots, because it's often where the book dragged for me.
Overall, this was a solid read from Sophie Kinsella, but not my favorite from her. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the advanced e-copy in exchange for my honest review.
When I was approved to read this book as an advanced reader copy, I shrieked in excitement! I was one of those gals who would hurry to the Borders for the newest Shopaholic book! Author Sophie Kinsella is an ““old fav” of mine and getting to read this was like revisiting a dear friend I’d lost touch with. This book touches on serious issues like getting burnt out in a job, losing your identity, anxiety and depression, but it also has “lol” moments, heartwarming situations and a bit of mystery! Add this book to your TBR *immediately*!! It comes out on October 10th and should be a publication buy for everyone!
Thank you Random House for providing me with an ARC.
Sophie Kinsella is great with the premise of a girl with a problem. Whether a shopaholic, having anxiety, or here being burnt out.
As a reader, I’d say I usually either love or hate her books. I rarely fall in the middle. However, in this case I have. This is a solid 3.5/5 for me. Things that really worked for me were the seaside town and kooky cast of characters. Many of the situations that the main character Sasha gets into are hilarious. All will say is kale.
What didn’t work for me was the romance and her time with the romantic lead. It didn’t click with me. Instead, I wish we’d spent a bit more time with burning out Sasha in the beginning and the townspeople.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a cozy fall read by the seaside. It was a heartwarming read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for providing me an advanced reader copy of The Burnout for my honest review. As a huge Sophie Kinsella fan, I was very excited for this opportunity!
The Burnout follows Sasha Worth, who has bitten off more than she can chew at her new job at Zoose. Sasha is not only burned out on work, but also on life. She has lost joy even in the little things. After an embarrassing turn of events at work, Sasha decides to take a break and travel to Rilston Bay for some much needed R&R. Throughout her time away rediscovering herself, Sophie Kinsella takes us on a journey of laughter, humility, friendship, and love and reminds us what's really important in life. A cute, funny, heartwarming read that fans of Sophie Kinsella are sure to enjoy!
This book was a cute, feel-good read about a very real issue we can all relate to - a burnout!
Have you ever been so overwhelmed and unhappy at your job that you wanted to run away and join a convent? If you can identify with this even a little bit, this book is for you!
I really loved the message behind this book, how loving yourself and setting boundaries at work and in other aspects of your life, is important and healthy. And giving yourself time to heal is okay.
Now, this was also a romance, don't get me wrong! I loved how the two MCs started out kind of hating each other, or at least, making completely wrong assumptions about the other and being judgy. Their slow-burn romance really felt real and authentic and you can't help rooting for them really early on!
The beginning was a bit slow for me, but after the 30% mark, the story really picks up!
I can't NOT mention the hotel staff, they were such a delightful and hilarious cast of secondary characters!
This book was really fun and heart-warming, with nostalgia and laughs and I recommend this book to everyone, especially fans of Sophie Kinsella!
I have read all of Sophie Kinsella's books, her writing a always a happy place for me to go and "The Burnout" is no different. In the crazy busy world we live in now, I think we can all relate to Sasha's and Finn's meltdowns. I only wish we all could have the get away they did but reading about their was the next best thing. Love the characters and the underlying theme of community support. I saw the ending going in a different way but was please to be wrong. Thank you Sophie Kinsella for this little taste of a break from busy life!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in advance of publication.
