I really enjoyed this book. It was different than anything else I've read recently. I couldn't put it down! I will keep an eye out for this author's future work!

The cover, title and first page hook you in. Also of course was intrigued to learn Sophie Kinsella is back with a new book! Sasha is burnt out from work, Finn is figuring his own life out. They both end up at a hotel & destination they visited as children and meet unexpectedly when they get in each other’s way. The heartwarming story of navigating your way through your own path and life was easy to attach to and I was rooting for Sasha and Finn from the start.

I enjoyed this book but idk there was just something about the writing I was not a fan of. The story was interesting and I could definitely relate to the feeling of burnout but I think it might've been just a slight language barrier (European English vs American English) as well as just the slight cultural differences that just made me not connect as much with the characters. I do think it was a good story all in all though!

Thank you Sophie and Random House for the ARC in exchange for an unbiased review!

I always loved Kinsella books, but this one fell short for me. I like to read to escape the real-life burnout because not all of can just go to the beach to recharge. The story felt rushed and forced, some parts I think did not need to drag on as much as they did.

Sasha can no longer take her controlling job and just walks out and hits a wall literally hits a wall. Enough is enough she needs to heal and do this she must hid to the only place she has found peace the seaside resort she loved as a kid. There is this mystery man named Finn who would seem to understand what she is going through. Also, a mystries message that is left on beach every day. How is this all connected, including her connection to Finn?

This has some laugh out loud moments one has come to expect from Kinsella. Her characters are always real and the rom com story was a lot of fun. The hotel setting and the staff there were a hoot. The time jump ending had me a little perplexed as it seemed the ending was rushed. Looking forward to more from this author. 3.5 stars

I always love Sophie Kinsella’s novels, so it was quite exciting to get an early copy of “The Burnout”. Although this wasn’t my absolute favourite book of hers, it made me laugh several times and was just a fun, easy read. It was a perfect read for getting out of a reading slump! I always look forward to her next book!

A great read, the story of Sasha who meets Finn when they have both escaped to the seaside to escape burnout. Some great quirky characters who run the hotel they are both staying at.

This book has every amazing quality that we love in a Sophia Kinsella book! Laughs, humor, creativity, romance, etc. 5 stars all the way! Not to mention, I am dreaming of that same resort/beach and the smoothies!

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I'm normally a huge Sophia Kinsella fan, but I could not get into this book. I did manage to finish, but it was not the usual can't put it down vibe I usually get from her books. It was good, but not omg you must read great.

The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella tells the story of Sasha, who is completely burnt out from her job. She is dealing with never-ending emails, a boss who could not care less, and feeling like she's the only staff member that knows what's going on. After a bit of a meltdown, she decides to listen to her mother's advice and take a needed trip away to the beach her family used to visit. Things there have drastically changed since she was a child, though. But while she is there, she meets Finn who is also a bit burnt out. The romance between them isn't the entire focus of the book, but a nice part of it. Together Sasha and Finn work on themselves while running away from their lives.

I think this was an easy read. We can all remember a time when we've been a little burnt out or overwhelmed with our job. And sometimes we just need time away in order to get back to ourselves. If you like other books by Ms. Kinsella, you will enjoy this one, but be warned that it is not one of her best. There were lots of laugh out loud moments and the story was completely relatable, but some aspects fell flat.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I have been reading this author since high school! I love her characters and the real-ness of their situations. That can definitely be said for this book as well. I related to the burnout felt by the MC and where her journey of “wellness” took her. Great read, will recommend.

I’ve loved Sophie Kinsella and her writing for decades now. Even my bookstagram handle is a nod to her Shopaholic series. When I see that she has a new book, I get excited even before I look at the synopsis. The Burnout was one of my most anticipated books of 2023 and I inhaled it as soon as I got my hands on it. So how come I’m reviewing it just now? Oh the irony of all ironies - I was knee deep in my own burnout and even deeper in denial about it!

I am not one of those readers who needs to relate to the main character but being able to relate to Sasha, made reading The Burnout that much more impactful. Oh the number of times I laughed out loud at ridiculous situations she found herself in (I mean who hasn’t thought of joining the convent to escape the overstimulation of our day to day existence). One of my favorite things about Kinsella’s books is that they give us laughter and romance but they often very thoughtfully tackle difficult topics.

I loved being a part of Sasha’s journey as she escapes her daily grind by going a seaside resort she loved as a child. Even though it’s now falling apart, kind of like her life, being there forces her to remember who she used to be. Of course there is a super annoying guy at the same resort and a little bit of a mystery to add extra flare to things!

I am currently dealing with my own burnout. Wish that health care and social services had a better system of prevention in place. It’s a messy and sometimes tiring process. But I still think of some of ridiculously funny situations Sasha found herself in and am filled with gratitude because of the amount of laughter still present in my life.

If you are a fan of laugh out loud romantic comedies you will not want to miss this one!

A huge thank you to The Dial Press, Random House & NetGalley for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to PRH and The Dial Press for early access to this one via NetGalley! These are my honest thoughts!

What a fun read! I absolutely loved the premise of this book. I loved the return-to-your-childhood-vacay-spot, and things not being what they seem.

This is my first book by Sophie Kinsella but it won't be my last! She writes compelling characters and story arcs that I felt invested in. There were so many quirky things in this story, with both Sasha and Finn, the main characters, but also with everyone Sasha encountered.

I felt like so much happened within the pages of this book! There were so many interactions and funny bits, but also Sasha and Finn went through a period of growth that was so good for both of them! I was a big fan of the focus on mental health and taking a break. As a mid-30s woman with life and responsibilities, I truly felt a connection to the part of Sasha that stops and buys the same thing at the market every day. I'm stuck in my own rut of "routine," and it was so great to see Sasha finally reach her breaking point, fall apart, and then re-build in a way that was healthy and encouraging.

When I say a lot happened, I MEAN A LOT. I loved the side characters, particularly the hotel employees and the surf shop owner, Terry. The community was small and reminded me a little of a small town/hometown story, which I love!

I hated the third act "break-up," (miscommunication was.... not even a miscommunication, just an assumption that you knew something that someone was "hiding" from you, ugh), but the time jump at the end was.... good? I don't love time jumps. They hurt my heart. But I loved the result of the time jump!

Just another delightful read by Kinsella. Filled with cringey embarrassing moments and hilarious self awareness as well as truly sweet snapshots of simple love and pure friendship. Always a delight to read!

Sophie Kinsella has such a way about her writing that you feel as if you know the characters, quirks and all. Sasha was so realistic and flawed and I loved her. The side characters were so endearing. If you just need a book to escape in for a while, I highly recommend Sophie Kinsella.

Sophie brings laughter and all the feels in her newest novel The Burnout. It's a story that feels oh-so-relatable to many millennials in the corporate workforce without feeling too forced.

It's been a long while since I've read a Sophie Kinsella book and The Burnout was the perfect reintroduction for me. Sasha is utterly relatable and the quirky denizens of her beachside getaway gave the tale such unexpected heart. Bits of the plot were a bit forced and coincidental, but not more than my usual suspension of disbelief could handle. I think it might be time for me to dive back in to Ms. Kinsella's backlist - she captures women's lives in such a heartwarming and real way. You can't help but see a bit of yourself in each of her heroine's lives and plights.

3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
