I love Sophie Kinsella books and this one was no exception! Was a great premise and really helped for me to look inward at my own burnout, lol

I felt the title dragged a little. Things didn't get going until 30% into the book when the main character came to the hotel. I also think the subplot with the mystery was unecessary. However, there were many moments where I was laughing out loud. The characters were well drawn and library patrons should enjoy this one.

I am a big fan of Sophie Kinsellas books so I was very excited to hear about this book coming out and this one did not disappoint. The Burnout is a hilarious romantic comedy that follows a young professional, Sasha, in her journey to recover from a stressful job at a nearly abandoned beach hotel. Sasha is so done with her job that she considers becoming a nun! The mishaps in her journey and the characters working at the hotel are laugh out loud funny. Honestly, one of Sophia Kinsella’s funniest books yet! Sasha meets another fellow burned out professional at the hotel and romance ensues. While the book was a little slow to get started and the romance took a while to develop, the payoff was worth it in the end. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to someone that enjoys romantic comedy movies like Bridget Jones’ Diary.

Sophie Kinsella’s books are always a guaranteed fast and enjoyable read, and this is no exception. It’s not as rich, storyline-wise, as some of her earlier standalones, but the opening sequence where protagonist Sophie tries to flee her awful job is priceless. Kinsella has also created a likeable set of side characters and subplots to keep the story moving.

Sophie Kinsella has been a favorite author of mine ever since I read an ARC ofConfessions of a Shopaholic that my brother brought home for me from his bookstore job. This book is very true to form for her, from the wacky secondary characters to the hilarious, unlikely scenarios to the heartwarming moments and character growth.

Sasha is burnt out at work. Rather than deal with her problems, she goes into a listless depression, then tries to run away from work and join a convent. This is classic Sophie Kinsella humor! Her mother suggests a holiday, and Sasha heads to Rilston Bay, a holiday spot on the sea her family went to yearly when she was a child. Her mother calls ahead and tells the hotel Sasha is on a wellness retreat, leading to plenty of zany conversations and antics. The hotel is nearly empty except for Sasha and an angry seeming man named Finn. They initially avoid each other before starting to help each other through their misery.

This book has me laughing out loud several times. The side characters at the hotel were hilarious in their eclectic ways, and picturing Saha trying to do her wellness steps was so funny. Yet, there were touching moments sprinkled throughout, as Sasha slowly comes back to herself and realizes she deserves happiness.

The tone is light and it is instantly recognizable as a Sophie Kinsella book. The story is a feel good rom com in the end, and I enjoyed it. I’ll continue to read everything Kinsella writes!

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House/The Dial Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella weaves together a story of burnout and dealing with lasting grief, with nostalgia, romance and humor.

This book had me laughing out loud multiple times. Yet, it also helped me reflect on symptoms of burnout in my own life. It was an enjoyable romantic comedy, while still having some substance and dealing with bigger topics than just girl meets boy and all is perfect in the world.

A highly recommend this for fans of Sophia Kinsella, people who like to laugh, anyone who has ever been turned away from a convent, and people who appreciate a good rom com. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors. I’ve read all of her books and loved them all. Her writing style and brand of humor is excellent and I always end up laughing out loud the entire time while I’m reading one of her books. Any new book she has instantly becomes one of my most anticipated reads of the year.

All that to say — I LOVED this! It was hilarious and heartfelt, with amazing characters and witty dialogue.

This book follows Sasha, who, due to mismanagement at her company, suffers from a major case of burnout. After literally running away from her job, her mother suggests she take some time off in the beach town where the family went on vacations growing up. Sasha hasn’t been there since her father died as a teenager because the memories were overwhelming for everyone. It is the off season so she has the beach to herself.

I loved the setting. As someone who loves the beach, I really appreciated Sasha’s love for it and descriptions of it. I also absolutely loved the hotel and the quirky cast of characters employed there. Cassidy was my favorite secondary character. Any time she made an appearance, everything she said was hilarious. I loved the other hotel employees as well, especially Simon and Herbert.

The romance was excellent! It was done really well and organically and it was not instalove.

The story was a perfect mix of poignant and humorous. I loved every second of it, and this is definitely going down as one of my favorite books of the year. Do not miss this one!!!

I loved this story of two people who are so burnt out that they can barely function. They both retreat to a place they loved as children, and that’s where the fun begins. It’s a rundown mess now, but the Rilston hotel is the heart of the story. Finn and Sasha make some missteps on their way to HEA, but it’s a fun ride.

I loved the concept of THE BURNOUT, however, found it difficult to get into. As much as burnout is an incredibly relatable and (unfortunately) universal experience, I didn't think the characters were likable or relatable in a realistic way. I was disappointed that while the love interest was introduced early in the book, he didn't have any major appearances until 25% of the way in.

Thank you to Sophie Kinsella, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title!

This story has it all. It is well written, the author writes in a very descriptive way and it is easy to see what the characters see, the city, the beach, the hotel, all of it. It has great characters, Courtney, Herbert, Sasha, Will even Joanne. It is funny, sweet, sad, emotional and the ending is quite satisfying.

Sasha is burning the candle at both ends at work, has no time for a life, her plants are dying, her love life is nonexistant, and anyone at work who could help alleviate her problems truns a deaf ear or offers a ridiculous solution. Sasha LITERALLY hits the wall! At the suggestion of her mother, she visits a seaside resort where her family vacationed when she was a child. She finds it humorously run-down, but still enjoys fond memories and the local characters. Another "burnout". Finn, is also there for the same reasons. They connect, and some sparks fly, but will their connection carry over to their real lives? Extremely entertaining and timely.

This is my first read by Sophie Kinsella and I don't think it'll be my last. I think she does so well at creating relatable characters in Sasha and Finn. Not to mention the very well articulated burnout that many people experience. Not many authors are able to give a real example of burnout, but I think the slightly crazed thinking of joining the convent and running into a brick wall, are accurate. At least to show the desperation.

I read this book in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed the humor and the feelings throughout the story. It was surprisingly emotional with the "reunion" at the end, but who doesn't love a feel good moment like that?

It found this hard to get into and almost put it down but ended up finishing it. The main character was kind of annoying. It was real frustrating when she suggested to the guy that he go to therapy when we also very much needed therapy.

I enjoyed the premise of this story. The author illustrated the main character's burnout realistically, which I thought was important. The characters were intriguing and well written, however, I would have enjoyed some more emotional depth within the relationship. I would recommend to those who enjoy cute and quick romance reads.

I really enjoyed this book. I was just the perfect romance book. Had a little mystery in there and the characters were so fun to learn about while reading. Great story!

Super cute and fun read! Love Sophie Kinsella’s style and this reminds me a lot of her earlier work.

The Burnout was a fun book to read about two burnt out professionals trying to recapture the summer of their childhoods. It has all of the trademark Sophie Kinsella aspects of a story-it's sweet, funny, predictable and madcap. Sasha is a great main heroine but all of the side characters of the hotel and town make the story better. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Delightful book for readers who want a hilarious read that was so common in Kinsella’s early works.
Other things that appealed to me were the characters and their shared experiences. Awesome book.

Another Sophie Kinsella classic!!! This was so fun. It did feel a bit specifically directed after Covid (not in the setting, Covid wasn't mentioned) but not in a way like it pounded you over the head.

So, I loved reading this book. The romance was great, the setting was AMAZING and the way everyone came together at the end - so fun?!??!

I've read so many Sophie Kinsella books that by now the plots run together, and they are becoming more and more similar. This was a mashup of The Undomestic Goddess and Love Your Life, which is not a bad thing, just a little repetitive. Also there was something of a mystery in this one, which was a little dull to read about. Also, as more and more people in my life succumb to burnout I'm getting a little tired of the too often repeated advice to "take a break." It's all very well to afford to be able to not work, and it's all very well to skip off to overrun vacations destinations, but it doesn't dig at the core of burnout, and attempt to heal the underlying cause. I can see into Sasha's future, and I think she will be due for another breakdown in a year or two, no matter how optimistic she feels now.

Despite the eye-rolly talk of burnout, this was a decent read. Take it on your "I'm going to treat burnout by going to the beach and trying to sleep more" vacation.
