BOOK REVIEW: The Burnout by #sophiekinsella Thank you @NetGalley & @Random House Books for the chance to read and review this!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was so cute i could not put it down!! this is the first book i’ve read by Sophie and ill be for sure reading more!!
Enjoyable read with lots of laughs. When work becomes so overwhelming you try to become a nun it might be time for a break. With lots of planning by her mom, Sasha is taking a break. But can that be causing even more stress?
Simon, Nicolai and Cassidy definitely make an interesting group to run the hotel. Add in Finn and it’s a whole lot of entertainment.
Finn and Sasha are both trying to hide the reason they are there.
I’m not going to lie, at first when I started to read this book I was feeling pretty burnt out myself so jumping into a story about others that were burnt out felt like a challenge. But how glad I am that I did dive into this story. Sasha and Finns connection was so sweet and lovely that this whole book felt like a hug. Watching them grow and learn from each other in their kooky seaside oasis was fantastic. These two obviously had got to the extreme end of burn out - thankfully I wasn’t at the point of attempting to join a convent the way Sasha was - but I think anyone who works can relate to how the characters were feeling.
I was obsessed with all the side characters and the antics they were always up to, it made for such a rich story and I can totally picture the hotel and town.
This is an enemies, to friends to lovers story I definitely recommend picking it up when it comes out - you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks to NetGalley, The Dial Press and the author Sophie Kinsella for providing me with a ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another cute Sophie Kinsella book. Like with all of her books, so much confusion by talking to each other, and the older I get the more frustrating that becomes.
A burnt out corporate girly who goes on a yoga retreat in a small town after breaking down at work and trying to join the convent. This is a great addition to your cozy weather “wish I was at the beach” read list this fall!
Although it felt silly at times, the main character was super relatable. I found myself laughing out loud at all her thoughts and awkward encounters.
When Sasha meets Finn, the grumpy sunshine visitor of Rilston Bay, that’s when the story really takes off. Bea and Finn really grew on me towards the end as they both tried to work through the reasons that lead them to Rilston. Also, there’s a small mystery to be solved throughout the book which was one of my favorite parts.
The ending was pretty fast paced and I felt like it needed just a little bit more time to wrap up all the characters’ stories as I was left with a few questions in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My girl Sophie Kinsella is back! When I get asked who’s one author you’ve continually have read for years, my answer is Kinsella! This one really reminds me all the reasons I love her books… not only does she deliver humor but you also tend to get a heartwarming romance as well as major character growth!
Sasha works for a startup company that is understaffed and what sounds to be an awful work environment. She’s burnt out! On the verge of a breakdown, with helpful guidance from her mom she goes on vacation to a place she once visited frequently as a child Rilston Bay Hotel and this is where the real party of laughs, romance and growth begin!
I literally laughed so hard. The Rilston staff maybe some of my favorite side characters to date. Alongside the humor you do get raw glimpses into “burn out” and I loved that Sophie had the two MC resort to the place of nostalgia to recoup. This story had a good mix of tropes enemies to friends to lovers. If you’re looking for a book to escape into that is purely delightful then immediately preorder Sophie’s next 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️THE BURNOUT!
Thank you to the publisher for an early copy!
I enjoyed this book. It started a bit slow but it was worth sticking with it. A fun story with the relationship with the leads, self healing and a really heartwarming sub plot (Terry ❤️). The last couple Kinsella novels I read fell flat for me but this one reminds me of her older books. Recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the opportunity to read and review this one.

I have loved Sophie Kinsella as an author from confessions of a shopaholic. I was thrilled to get this book from netgalley and publisher as an advanced read. I really enjoyed Sasha and Finns story, it did not disappoint.
This book was a quick read, the writing style, as always, is witty, engaging and funny. Absolutely loved this book and it was very relatable.
When Sasha has a mental breakdown at work she sets off to reset and recover from her burnout at the seaside community she used to stay at as a child. Unfortunately, as she discovers on her arrival, the once fancy resort has seen better days. The Rilston is understaffed and in serious disrepair. She is determined to make the best of it and possible even ignite a romance with the only other patron of the RIlston, a curmudgeonly guy named Finn.

Sophie has done it again!I have always been a big fan of her books, so I was so excited to receive an advanced copy. Thank you, NetGalley!!
I put all other books aside and got right into this one.
Cute story, good characters and so descriptive- I could picture the beach and the hotel!!
And of course, laugh out loud moments!!
Rounded up to 4.5 stars!!
As a long-time Sophie Kinsella fan, THE BURNOUT was a fun, quick read with all the trademark Sophie Kinsella touches. Some parts required a bit of suspension of belief, but overall, this was a fun read with some laugh out loud moments.
I've recently become a fan of Sophie Kinsella so I was excited to see this book on my shelf. And I was not disappointed! My patrons will LOVE this book. Can't wait to add it to the library!
As someone in the middle of real burnout, I wish I had ran into a convent in an earlier stage! I liked all the characters and I just really got it
I have loved Sophie Kinsella as an author for a long time. I was thrilled to get this book from netgalley and publisher as an advanced read. It did not disappoint. I really enjoyed Sasha and Finns story. In this day and she burn out is very real and I liked this approach from the author. At time I felt as though the first third of this story was a bit slow and dragged on a bit. The second third I loved, and I could not get enough of. I always appreciate Kinsellas writing style and this was no different. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait to add this one to my book shelf soon.
After being overburdened at work, Sasha retreats to her favorite childhood beach resort where she finds things considerably changed from her last visit 20 years prior. She also meets Finn, who is there for the same reasons and is surprised to find that this isn’t the first time their paths have crossed. Kinsella absolutely never disappoints. I loved the characters, the conflict and the storyline and as always I found myself laughing out loud. This is definitely one I’ll be recommending to my reader friends.
“Infinite waves. Infinite chances. You can’t dwell or think about what might have been. There’s always another wave. Although you have to be looking the right way to see it.”
The Burnout has all the elements of a classic Sophie Kinsella book. You’ve got the sweet and spunky heroine, her supportive family and friends, a bunch of quirky characters who are equally weird and endearing. And of course there’s the guy.
Although there were a couple plot points that felt a little unnecessary, I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves The Undomestic Goddess, Can You Keep a Secret, or just about any other Sophie book.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy.
I loved every second of this book. The first chapter alone was so beyond relatable. The nuns and running into a wall was sadly hilarious. I enjoyed how the author had the main characters stay connected/friends when they left the hotel for home. It wasn't an over-dramatic " breakup" but a realistic pause. I highly recommend.
I dove into this book expecting a full-on romance, but when I realized it was more of a coming-of-age story with Eat, Pray, Love vibes and a romance subplot, I started to enjoy it a lot more! the main character, Sasha, was awkward and funny and so, so real. dialogue in books can often be cringy because you just know nobody talks/thinks like that, but in Sasha’s case, as she went through her inner dialogue I often found myself thinking, “yeah… been there.”
if you’re looking for strong romance, this book may not be for you. but if you want a story about a woman growing and learning who she is and what she wants out of life and having romance be a part of that mix, then you might like this one! it’s a bit slow-moving, but it’s pretty darn cute. there are so many great one-liners (mostly from Terry, bless his heart) and many unique characters that you just can’t help but love! it’s a gentle read that I think does a great job at tapping into the reality of what it means to try to take care of yourself and do it in a healthy way, even if that means sometimes being unhealthy.
I made it to 14% before I just felt like our protagonist isn't someone I want to support. I just want to say, "Sasha, calm down." I can see where the story is going, but I don't want to ride along.
I loved some of Kinsella's older works, and I'm pleased to see she's still actively writing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC.
Sasha works for a horrible, understaffed startup in London. Also, she doesn't know how to say no. This culminates in her having somewhat of a nervous breakdown. Her mother sends her to a beachside resort to relax and recover, the resort where the family used to spend idyllic summer vacations. What mom doesn't realize it that the resort is now a shabby, impoverished relic, barely furnished and staffed. Sasha makes the best of it, healing alongside another guest, an equally burned-out man who, it turns out, remembers those childhood visits. They share memories of the surf camp and halcyon days on their board in the water, as well as the maxims of the old surfing instructor. As the two of them heal and come back to health, a romance is born, but there are obstacles.
The very best stories give the reader a sense of hope about life, and this one did that. The book was a romance, but so much more. I was sorry to see it end. It was so good. I LOL'd a number of times, and when I came to the scene where Sasha finally rides a wave, it was so beautiful I had to read the whole thing aloud to my husband, and I could barely get through the end, choking back tears. Sophie Kinsella did such a great job of metaphoring surfing to life. This book was a privilege to read.
