I love Sophie Kinsella. Her books never fil to make me laugh, and sometimes, they will also give you a good, heartwarming cry. I got both with THE BURNOUT.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Receiving an advanced copy was a delightful surprise. I believe both existing fans and newcomers will find it equally enjoyable.
incredibly boring book. most of the time nothing happens and when something does, it's not exciting and barely moves the story along. sasha as a character was so self-involved and acted way younger than in her 30's
Sophie Kinsella has always been the queen of rom-coms. I can remember the very first book that I read from her and fell in love with her books from that moment. We all go through burnout with life juggling personal and work, then just not knowing what to do. This happens to Sasha who is overworked and the job is asking way too much of her. Instead of voicing her concerns she runs out of a meeting to try to join a convent. However, they won't accept her. So Sasha takes a vacation where she went as a child with her family. Sasha's mom arms her with a wellness plan of drinking kale smoothies, eating salads, meditation and yoga on the beach. While there Sasha runs into another guest Finn who is grumpy as ever and thinks Sasha is high maintenance.
I loved the story telling of Sasha and her journey. Sometimes we all just need some rest and relaxation.
Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy!
✨Book Review✨
The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
.
Sophie Kinsella has always been one of my favorite authors. Her books are so readable and are just the perfect mindless feel good reads. This book fit that description exactly. Cute, light, quick, and sweet. Nothing mind-blowing, but I would recommend to anyone wanting a pleasant beach read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for my ARC copy! This review contains my personal thoughts and opinions.
"The Burnout" by Sophie Kinsella takes us on a lighthearted journey through the world of burnout through the lens of the main character, Sasha, who is endearing, relatable, and easy to empathize with. Although burnout can be a heavy topic, this story was injected with moments of levity. Sasha's antics and mishaps provided plenty of laughs, which made this an enjoyable reading experience.
While the book was pretty easy to breeze through, one drawback for me was how chaotic the storyline felt at times. There were a lot of characters to keep track of, and some of the scenes were unnecessary, in my opinion. I would have liked the storyline to focus more on Sasha really finding herself in the midst of burnout.
Overall, "The Burnout" was an enjoyable read. Despite its shortcomings, it offers an entertaining escape into Sasha's world, filled with laughter and a hint of introspection.
Rating: 3/5
I usually love this author but didn’t love this one! I found it entertaining at the beginning but it really began to drag towards the middle of the story. In typical style of this author I did find myself laughing out loud during parts of the book, it was nice to see that this author can still make me laugh even in the midst of a book that I don’t love. I would say it’s still worth a read if you love the author!
Sophie Kinsella always brings the balance between fun and serious in her books. This was no different. The lesson I took away from this story was that it is okay to put yourself first. Stress and burnout can be prevented and managed if you take an active stance in self-care.
This book was great. It was a fun look at someone who just needed a break and the quirky hotel and staff made me smile throughout. I like how there were some great takeaways from the story about priorities in life, self-care, and boundaries.
loved this. In this day and age, I feel like so many people experience burnout. Whether from work, school, motherhood, etc, so many people are just exhausted from work. I think it's so important to take the time to relax and unwind. I know it's not always feasible, but it really needs to be. We need to start taking care of ourselves. Society puts way too much pressure on us, and we need to take it back!
I love that Sophie Kinsella can take something like burnout and make a wonderful story out of it!
She is such a brilliant rom com writer!
Even though i hate the 3rd act breakup, lol, I did appreciate that the characters realized they needed to work on themselves before they went into a serious relationship. Even though there was clearly some miscommunication or lack of communication, I thought that was really important.
I loved all the characters. I also wish Sasha told the truth about the health juices the hotel workers were making her LOL.
This was such a great read, and I really recommend it!
I really enjoyed this book, the seaside town was the perfect setting and I loved both of the characters. Just the book I was looking to read, you will love it too!
This was such a witty, satirical, heartwarming story of a woman trying to find her way back on track after losing her ability to function at work, in the world, etc. I loved the twists and turns of mishaps befalling her, and watching her find her path back to self- and romantic love.
Brilliant concept. Funny moments that had me turning to the perplexed person next to me on why I was laughing aloud. I wish we all learned from a surfing philosopher.
Ironically, I am on my own career pause and burnout recovery from a toxic workplace/manager that gave me no agency/empowerment. I wish there were kale smoothies and noni juice cocktails to get me out of this rut. In the meanwhile, I'm in yoga and hula hoop mode and taking time to heal.
I have a deep admiration for Sophie Kinsella's writing style, and this book captures all the elements that resonate with me. It exudes warmth and humor, yet intersperses poignant moments of melancholy, offering a rich emotional experience. I loved this novel!
Sasha is burned out, Finn, is burned out.
When they both return to the sleepy seaside town they both frequented as kids, their paths inevitably cross.
The fancy hotel they remember has fallen into disrepair, and it being the offseason, Sasha and Finn seem to be the only two people on the beach.
So when mysterious messages start appearing to "the couple on the beach" Sasha and Finn start working together to get some answers.
I felt for Sasha, she really was burned out.
The chapters depicting her work life gave me anxiety, it was really awful.
A good third of the book goes by before Sasha and Finn even speak, so it was pretty slow moving that way.
Unfortunately nothing really happens throughout the story.
There were some sweet parts, and portions of the book hit on some deeper topics, but in the end there wasn't much to it.
Sometimes a fluffy romance is just that, cute, fluffy, witty... unfortunately I did not find this story, cute or witty.
In the end, this was wasn't for me.
Sophie Kinsella books are just plain fun! I enjoyed The Burnout as much as her previous books. I loved the setting of the old British resort where Sasha and Finn meet and where they both had roots from their childhoods. They treated Terry so sweetly and the ending was wonderful. This is the perfect beach read!
I also listened to the audio book and feel like the narrator Bessie Carter did a wonderful job!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

I am a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella’s books and enjoyed this one as I have all her previous books.. This novel was hilarious. Sasha was Sophie Kinsella’s typical silly heroine who grows and becomes more self-aware throughout the story. She gets herself into all sorts of innocent trouble that is fun to read. There is a serious side to the story though as she figures out how she has allowed herself to be used and has become burnout.
I did like Finn, but wish he had been a bit more developed. The subplot of Terry’s story was so sweet and made me a little teary as hit hit close to home. This was the perfect feel good book between two more serious books..
4/5 stars
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for an eARC of this book.
Wonderful story, great character development, great writing! Highly recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it
Sasha is burnout and tired of everyday life. She hasn’t seen her friends and life in general is pulling her down. She finds herself headed to a great resort her mom booked her and soon runs to a grumpy man named Finn. The resort is not what she expected and neither is Finn. She walks the beach to find Finn is in her favorite spot!!! How dare he!!
One day they find messages and are forced to talk to each other they have to figure out how they both ended up where they are and out they got so burned out !!
This was just okay for me. There's a reason I stopped reading Sophia Kinsella a few years back. I did really love the characters and those were definitely the strong points of the novel for me. However, the plot was a bit over the top and while I enjoyed it enough to keep going and not DNF, I definitely didn't love it.
