I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
Talk about two people more different - she is a teacher and environmental activist who lives frugally. He is a billionaire, vice president of a family owned oil company. However, when they come together - it is quite hot. However, can they come together outside the bedroom and make this relationship work?
I really wanted to love this book but the characters were not clicking for me. As a someone who works as a teacher, I loved the idea of of a teacher as the FMC and the premise of the story really fascinated me. Unfortunately, I just could not connect with Ashley, the FMC. I really enjoyed their meet cute and the chemistry between the two characters and think that this was mostly a me problem. The story and the writing were good, but I just did not connect with the FMC so this was a DNF for me.
I enjoyed this sizzling opposites-attract romance. The authors crafted a compelling story, and I appreciated that the heroine was intelligent, capable, and passionate in more ways than just sexually.
I docked one star for the cliffhanger ending. Up until that point, the book was fantastic, but then suddenly — BOOM! — it concluded.
This was my first book by Grace Woods and I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!
Luke and Ashley have to be one of my favourite couples!!! I am a sucker for a billionaire romance book and this one DELIVERED!! I loved that Luke owned an oil company. They complemented each other really nicely.
Mr Luke Dalton - THAT MAN AND HIS MOUTH I CANNOT DEAL!!!
Overall, I loved this book so much and cannot wait to see what Grace has in store next :)
I tried. I really did. But I can’t get into this book. Maybe I’m past reading the insta-love, hot and steamy, but I didn’t really like either character. I DNF’d this book but I’m sure there are many people out there that will love it.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
If you are looking for a quick read than give this one a try. But since it is short and fast paced its hard to get into the story. But it is a good one.
It's unfortunate to admit that my anticipation for this story didn't align with the reading experience.
1. Premise and Substance:
The story's premise holds great potential, addressing significant topics such as Arctic drilling, the impact of foreplay, and the aftermath of traumatic experiences like rape. Undoubtedly, these themes carry substance, making the book's concept intriguing.
2. Execution Falls Short:
Regrettably, the execution of these promising themes leaves much to be desired. The narrative seems to stumble in its attempt to convey the depth and complexity of the subjects at hand. There's a notable lack of finesse in storytelling, resulting in a less engaging experience than expected.
3. Lack of Chemistry:
In a genre that thrives on steamy romance, the absence of a gradual build-up of chemistry between the main characters was disappointing. Instead of a carefully crafted connection, the story leans towards instant attraction, missing an opportunity to explore the nuances that make romances compelling.
4. Uncomfortable Language Choice:
A particularly jarring aspect that detracted from the overall reading experience is the inconsistent use of language. The author's choice to use the term "beauty" for the female protagonist's anatomy, in contrast to the more straightforward "cock" for the male protagonist, raises eyebrows and feels out of place. This linguistic inconsistency adds an element of discomfort that detracts from the narrative.
Very quick read, but the relationship felt instant lovey to me. The building of the relationship also felt rushed in some place. I was only 25% of the way into the book and the first smut scene happened with very surface levels of bonding between Luke and Ashley.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve finished this book, and I honestly tear up thinking of how much I adored it. (am I being dramatic? yes. do I care? no.) I felt such a strong connection to Ever, and it was so easy to fall in love with every other character as well. I sincerely can’t wait enough to read the next instalment.
Not what I was expecting - steamy, smart, and interesting, this is more than your typical steamy romance. Ashley and Luke come from such different worlds, but it's lust at first sight...at least for Ashley. I loved following Ashley's internal conflict, it made her feel more real. Life isn't always black and white, and Luke definitely brings a major gray area into her world. Getting to know both Luke and Ashley was a fun ride, and I love the way Luke was described. You can almost hear and smell him the way Woods describes him in detail. The story itself has some twists, and will keep you engaged from start to finish. I'm curious to see where book two will take us.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The book was cute but a bit all over the place and repetitive.
Thank you netgalley.
If only it was that simple to sleep with the head of oil company and get him to change. Hell, if it would stop fossil fuels from killing our planet who wouldn't jump on board. It totally changes the meaning of "Taking one for the team".
I loved the lives of the two contrasting characters and I kept wondering how their personal career choices didn't make them enemies more often. I was rooting for them to meet in the middle or find common ground but the difficulty of not being able to avoid the inevitable that they are so different is a constant reminder in their relationship. I will not lie so I will say there were points where I got mad at the MMC sometimes but I kept reading until the very end, and then flipped when I realized I'd have to wait for the continuation. With a title like "To Be Continued", how did I not see that coming?
Thank you to both the author and NetGalley for the chance to read this story. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the second one, "To Be Continued Now", which is on my 2024 TBR list.
To Be Continued is a short, rushed book. The premise is interesting but the plot is so fast paced that it’s hard to get invested in the story.
I wasn't sure if a billionaire meets environmental activist romance would be for me, but boy was I wrong! This book was spicy, interesting, and has me looking forward to the next one in the series. I like the juxtaposition of the two characters and how they learn from the other. I also appreciate how this book deals with serious themes and traumas. Both characters have had major life events that shaped them and they must work through those issues in order to come together. I thought this was really beautiful and done of their lines to each other was so so sweet.
The only thing I didn't like is the reference to the female nether region as "beauty." "Can I see your beauty?" "I want to pleasure your beauty. " I died laughing whenever I read this. I can deal with any other description for female parts, but that one. Just a small detail that made me laugh repeatedly. Overall, I liked this book and will definitely read the others in the series.
Something about "I want to be in a relationship with someone I believe has terrible morals" just doesn't read as a good romance to me. The FMC is constantly bringing up her stances in pretty circular conversations. Overall just wasn't my cup of tea.
The book was enjoyable, featuring well-developed main characters, Ashley and Luke, with a touch of spice. While not a candidate for a re-read, the overall experience was satisfying the first time around.
I gotta say, this book was a bit all over the place for me. It had a slow pace and the plot points seemed kinda scattered and not quite tied together. Some important stuff just got mentioned in passing and then sort of faded into the background, not really affecting the story or the characters in a big way. By the time I finished it, I was honestly feeling a bit bewildered and a tad worn out. There were very little character development and it was very hard to connect with the characters. Maybe it will get better in the second book!
Thank you Netgalley for this arc!
Was this story good? YES. Was it full of things not known by me? YES. But it was repetitive and Ashley seriously needs to get off her high horse. I only want to know the outcome of her and Luke but not with everything being repeated in each chapter.
I thought this book was overall good and cute. I enjoyed the read and can’t wait for the second book to come out. The cliffhanger in this book…. Just oh my goodness.
