Wildfire was a fun read with lots of sugar and spice! Russ and Aurora hook up at a college party where Aurora sneaks out soon after. The pair are shocked to later run into each other at the same summer camp, where they are both counselors for the same group of kids. Russ and Aurora do all they can to fight their mutual attraction and not risk losing their jobs. Meanwhile, both characters are dealing with heaps of family drama involving their not-so-great fathers.
I really enjoyed this story. The beginning was very confusing because in the midst of this college party, you are introduced to a LOT of characters. However,.once the story breaks off to the camp, it is much easier to follow all of the side characters along with the main ones. Honestly, the side characters in this book sometimes outshine Russ and Aurora. Xander caused me to bust out laughing several times, and Emilia is blunt but loving as Aurora's best friend. The only thing I didn't like in this story was the "third act conflict". It lasted only a few pages and honestly seemed out of character. It could have been left out without really affecting the story. Other than that, this was a fun read! There's enough sweetness for those that like a feel-good love story and enough spice for those who want just a little more to their romance stories. I definitely recommend it for anyone who likes romance!
Cute and sexy and fun.
A perfect little summer read that takes place at a summer camp.
Two real people with real issues, learning to trust each other.
And all kinds of cute animals!
This is the follow up book to Icebreaker and although it’s not a sports romance I enjoyed it just as much, if not more! This book follows Russ and Rory as they embark on a friendship turned romantic summertime journey. Russ is the shy guy who is trying to fake being confident when he meets Rory at a house party, they have a fun time together and Rory slips out while Russ is in the bathroom. They both go their separate ways until they are thrust together at summer camp where they are both working for the summer as camp counselors! Will the kindle a romance? Will Russ become confident and be able to stop being faking it? Will they work out their family issues? Read this amazing romance book and find out now!! Highly recommend .
Huge thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review the arc!!
This was such a fun summer read with a great romance leading the charge. I loved Rory and Russ' love story, especially the bit about forbidden camp love! Would give 4.5 if that was an option! Super cute. Love all of Hannah Graces books
Publishing in October 2023
I was excited to read this book right after Icebreaker. I’ve heard such great feedback online about the first book, and now that I’ve read both, I think I enjoyed the sequel even more than the first book.
Hannah Grace fans will be happy that a lot of favorite main characters from Icebreaker reappear in this book in supporting roles: Stassie, Nate, Henry, JJ, Lola, Robbie, etc.
This book (Wildfire) brings back Russ in a leading role, and introduces Aurora, who also attends Maple Hills university. Aurora hooks up with Russ in a “I wish this could be more than a one night stand” situation at the hockey house. They don’t get to reconnect after that evening because Aurora is going away to work at a summer camp.
Guess who also shows up to work at the summer camp? Everyone’s favorite Muffin— it’s Russ! What will happen when they have to work together all summer… and the camp rules prohibit dating among counselors?!?
Honestly, there is not a lot of sports focus in this book compared to Icebreaker, so if you were hoping for more hockey, it’s not a substantial part of Russ and Aurora’s story. This is a summer camp/college love story, and I appreciated that. Both characters are likeable and it’s easy to root for them as a couple. Hannah Grace’s writing style of Wildfire gets a little wordy and drags on some plot points at times, but this book is fun and spicy, and will be popular just like her first novel.
I am so happy we finally have a book based on our beloved Muffin. I really enjoyed reading Icebreaker and when I heard that the second book was going to be based on Russ I literally screamed when I got approved for an arc. Russ and Aurora start out with immediate chemistry I love me a good one night stand. They were adorable and perfect for each other. Thank you so much NetGalley for giving me this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to have a physical copy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC of Wildfire in exchange for an honest review.
Summary:
In the latest addition to the Maple Hills series, college students Russ Callaghan and Aurora Roberts unexpectedly reunite as summer camp counselors following a passionate one-night stand at a party. Struggling with their own personal issues, they both seek solace in their roles as counselors while navigating a strict "no staff fraternizing" policy. Russ aims to escape his father's gambling problems, while Aurora seeks refuge from her longing for attention. Their rekindled connection challenges rules and raises questions about whether their initial encounter ignited an unstoppable flame.
My Thoughts:
My experience with “Wildfire” left me with mixed feelings. While I finished the book quickly, it felt a bit dragged out and longer than it should have been. Connecting with Aurora and Russ and their romance was tough, and there were too many side characters to keep track of. “Wildfire” didn’t capture the excitement I felt in the first book, “Icebreaker.” The characters were a bit dull and lackluster. The book seemed like a bunch of scenes put together without a clear plot or pace. Despite this, I’d give it 3.5 stars. It was spectacular, but it was still entertaining. I’d say give “Wildfire” a shot if you want a light college romance. Although it didn’t leave a lasting mark on me, it could be just the right pick for those looking for an uncomplicated and fun read.
Rating: 3.5/5
Spice: 2/5
The second installment to Hannah Grace's Maple Hill series was an enjoyable read. Russ and Aurora are adorable relatable characters that kept me reading until the very end. Giving us a hookup in one of the first scenes, thank you Hannah Grace! I was expecting to like it more because of my near obsession with Icebreaker, but I just had less connection to it. The trauma each of the characters had seemed a little monotonous, yet its inclusion was what provided the characters with depth. I think it would make a great addition to our store and will plan on ordering copies for October.
Fun to have another book on several of the background characters in this series. Nice to learn more about them. Definitely toned down compared to her book "Icebreaker." Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy. #NetGalley #Wildfire
Loved it! This was a great follow up to her first romance novel, and I loved it just as much! I think fans of Hannah Grace's won't be let down. Loved the camp setting, and the characters that had real issues. The struggles the male lead had with his family made this not just a steamy romance, but also a good read.
Another fun romance novel by Hannah Grace. I loved her first book and was looking forward to reading this one. This book included characters from Ice Breaker and it was fun for me to see some of the connections but it could be read as a stand alone without missing anything. The story was about two teens who both have complicated and somewhat toxic relationships with their families. They find each other in a night of passion and then end up working at the same summer camp. They have to work around summer camp rules as well as navigating how much about their families they are willing to share with each other. While it is a typical teen romance the story was interesting and steamy. It tackled some real mental health, addiction, and creating healthy boundaries. It is great for the genre it is and perfect for older teens and anyone who loves a good romance novel.
I read Icebreaker, Hannah Grace's first novel in this series, can I just say that this novel is a completely different beast. I think that the trauma here is real, and the characters are more complex and I feel more invested in the fmc and mmc getting their happy ending. We get mini glimpses of all our favorites from Icebreaker the first few chapters- and even melancholic comments about the changing of the house's guard. But most importantly we get Russ and Rory two imperfect people who have been through alot of family drama and attempt to negotiate their interactions post one night stand. I think anyone who liked Icebreaker will like this book even more
I loved Icebreakers so I jumped at the chance for a sneak peek at Hannah Grace's new novel. It has everything you loved about her first book in the series, and more. I really love the way these books are much more than the usual chick-lit books. While they are steamy and have some great one-liners, these books also show true character emotional growth.
Huge win! Cannot wait for the next in the series - let's hope it's our baby Henry's turn!
I absolutely adored this book! I loved Icebreaker, and I was so happy to see that the second book in the series was just as strong. I felt the joy, anxiety, and sweetness of this novel, and I absolutely adored this book and I will be recommending it to everyone I know.
After reading "Icebreaker" I knew that I HAD to get my hands on this book. And let me tell you, Hannah Grace did not disappoint! I'm not sure how, but this book is even BETTER than the first in the series. I love that we got to have a book dedicated to Russ, who you may recognize from the first book. He's a shy hockey player that ends up at camp with who he thought was a "one night stand" due to miscommunication. Aurora aka Rory is the girl that wanted a summer of "discovery" after a very 'fun' night with Russ. Instead they find themselves both as summer camp counselors at Honey Acres- cue ten weeks of non stop tension and flirting. Although miscommunication can sometimes be a frustrating trope- it isn't dragged out in this book. They TALK and COMMUNICATE and might I add that they do it well? You will be cheering for Russ and Aurora the entire time as they realize they may have different backgrounds, but they are EXTREMELY similar. Rory comes off as loud and confident, but you quickly realize she relates to, and understands, Russ and how shy and closed off he can be. And did I mention there's spice? Because there definitely is! Although "Wildfire" is a part of a series, you don't necessarily HAVE to read "Icebreaker" to still enjoy it! Happy reading! #NetGalley #NetGalleyARC #ARC #Wildfire #HannahGrace #WildfireHannahGrace #Romance
Hannah Grace is a popular YA author on TikTok, so I thought I would check out her books. I've previously read "Icebreaker," so I was interested to see that she has the next book in the "Maple Hills" series coming out. "Wildfire" centers around Russ and Aurora, who have a one-night stand at the end of their school semester. However, when they bump into each other unexpectedly while working as counselors at a summer camp, they have to learn how to work together. But the camp has a strict "no dating" rule, making things more complicated. And to make matters worse, both Russ and Aurora have strained relationships with their parents they're navigating as well.
I thought it was a well-written book, but wasn't quite as steamy as the first one. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Aurora and Russ spend one steamy night together expecting to not see each other again until they both show up working with the same children’s summer camp. Unfortunately for them, the fire is still burning and there’s a strict no fraternization policy. But workplace policies can’t stop love! Overall it was a sweet story and some cute moments, but for me, not as fun or as page turning as Icebreaker.
I actually requested this book without having read Icebreaker. I had Icebreaker on my TBR list for quite some time though due to its popularity on tiktok. Boy was I so happy to have that little bit of motivation to get started on the series.
I was so glad to have the opportunity to avoid a book hangover by being able to jump straight into Maple Hills again to follow Russ and Rory.
Russ and Rory were so lovable and I loved seeing how they were able to bond over their family troubles. This slow burn was fantastic and I loved that they were really able to grow alongside each other.
Wildfire really solidified Hannah Grace as an author whose future books are going to go on my auto read list!
Obviously TikTok sensation so I have seen this book being talked about. Summer camp romances are everything so I enjoyed it. The forbidden romance aspect was great also. I just didn't like Aurora too much, she was very spoiled and made up all her issues.
I love Hannah Grace and will read anything she writes, but this was not my favorite. It was a little more subdued than her other books though I loved the continuation of the UCMH storyline. I hit a spot in the middle that kept me from finishing faster but did love the ending. Overall, a solid 3 star.
