I didn’t know what to expect when I first started l started Wildfire, especially after the buzz generated by Hannah Grace’s first book, Icebreaker. However, I was blown away by the depth and growth of her writing, even after a singular book.
I found myself even more invested in the love story between Aurora and Russ, two damaged protagonists trying to find peace from their problems while working at a children’s summer camp, all while fighting their growing attraction. I loved the change in setting, as I think Honey Acres added to the charm of this book and gave readers a break from the college campus where the series gets its name. I also think it was an interesting choice to center Russ in Icebreaker’s follow up: despite relatively few mentions in the first book of the series, his indirect responsibility in setting up the events of the first book made him the right person to helm the second.
I can safely say that this book not only surpassed my expectations, but has also become my favorite in the series. Hannah Grace is creating a romance series that centers the tropes and interests romance readers love most, and I am thoroughly looking forward to her next book, whatever it may be.
A huge thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for my ARC!
I enjoyed the beginning of this, but after the halfway point it really dragged on. The Summer Camp setting was fun. Russ was a sweetheart. The dogs.. perfection. Aurora... please tell us again about how you have daddy issues lol jk... kind of.
Overall it was ok, but I feel like this book could've been cut in half. 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC!
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I was (and still am) confused on why we got Russ's book before Henry or anyone else's (since russ was such a minor character in icebreaker) but I still absolutely devoured this.
This one is as long as the first, and I didn't notice how long the first one was until everyone pointed it out. And thenI read this one and it's long. It's not even that I'm opposed to long books, I just feel like there are important parts of this book that could have been prioritized over the smaller parts that took up a chunk of the space. I mean, it opens up with them at a party and they hook up for the first time, and then we have to watch them over the course of a few more chapters (like a week of time) until they reunite. Mostly filled with aurora's phone calls with her mom and other nonsense. Like, skip that boring stuff please. And like icebreaker, there are several weirdly cut off paragraphs that offer nothing to the story. like what was the point of three sentences?
With that being said...
The daddy issues. I could relate 150%. did hannah grace read my mind? I was honestly offended. Even then, aurora was an okay fmc. She was fun and relatable, sure but I honestly found myself skimming over her parts. Maybe it was because i related to her so much that I couldn't be bothered reading my thoughts on a page, or maybe it was because Russ's character intrigued me so much more than hers.
Russ was a DOLL. I loved him so much! he was so sweet and kind and a little broken hearted which is my favorite type of guy.
I still think it's weird that the book focused on these two people who in the last book were hardly there (i know russ was, but was aurora even a character in icebreaker?) the praise was nice but a little overboard. the summer camp setting was so nice. seeing stassie and nate and their baby was also🥰🥰🥰 so nice.
overall a 4.5/5⭐️
Stunning, emotional, and heartwarming. This one night stand to friends to lovers romance was so fun. I loved Icebreaker beyond words and this is such a gorgeous follow up to a breathtaking debut. Aurora and Russ are such fascinating sides of the same coin and I love how their friendship blossoms in tandem with their romance.
This book wasn't as good as Icebreaker but it did have fun characters. I like the friendships and banter throughout the book. The chemistry of the main couple was good but I don't think I liked the camp scene as much as I thought I would. This book seemed to drag on in places but I do like this author and will keep reading her books.
If Hannah Grace has 1000 fans I am one of them, if she has one fan it is me and if she has no friends I am dead.
Another sexy book knocked out of the park!!!! I loved it and finished it in a day. Give me a UCMH tshirt that says Nate, Russ, JJ, Henry and I would wear it.
I am also F1 obsessed so this literally hit every bucket of things I love.
READ THIS!!!!!!!
I want to start off my saying how grateful I am for receiving this arc! I LOVED Icebreaker and when Wildfire was announced I screeched for joy!!
This book takes right after Icebreaker and the 2 MC’s are Russ and Aurora. It follows them at a summer camp after a one night stand whereas they where never going to see each other again but fate had other plans 😏. Relationships between counselors aren’t allowed here and these 2 try to keep it professional but the chemistry is sizzling and the tension just keeps increasing.
Now getting into our 2 MC’s Russ and Aurora…
RUS MY SWEET GOLDEN RETRIEVER. I’ve never read a MMC who fits the bill quite like him. He’s warm hearted, kind, caring, emotional and all the other swoony adjectives. He’s exactly the type of man you would want to bring home to your parents 😉
And then we got out girl Aurora who’s similar in some departments to him but she’s also very outgoing ( while he’s bashful ), very loyal, extroverted and comfortable in her own skin and sexuality.
I just thought these 2 complemented each other so well and reading their story had me laughing, swooning and blushing. They are honestly the ideal couple and not toxic whatsoever like you may read in some other books.
I can’t wait to for y’all to read this story and without spoiling to much I can assure you’re going to love it, especially if you liked icebreaker 😝
A HUGE thanks to Netgalley and Atria for gifting me this e-arc in exchange for an honest review :)
After reading Grace's previous book "Icebreaker", I didn't think twice before picking this one. Much to my delight, she has successfully done it again. I devoured "Wildfire" in a single sitting.
Russ, the sweet and misunderstood hero, is paired with the outgoing and spirited Rory, setting the stage for an irresistible opposites-attract dynamic. The chemistry between them is palpable, brimming with humor and sizzling sparks that made my heart race with excitement. I found myself completely invested in their story, eagerly anticipating each interaction and reveling in the moments that ranged from tender to passionate.
But it was the characters' depth and authenticity who truly stole my heart. Both Russ and Rory carry their own personal baggage and navigate family issues, making them relatable and compelling protagonists. Grace masterfully explores their vulnerabilities, allowing readers to empathize with their struggles and cheer for their growth and happiness.
Grace's writing style exudes warmth and her skilled storytelling captures the intricacies of human connection, making "Wildfire" a deeply heartfelt and satisfying read.
I have come to the conclusion that Hannah Grace is not the author for me. I had enough trouble with wrapping up “Icebreaker” which was an absolute snoozefest and it was evident that “Wildfire ' fell in the same category.
The writing style nearly put me to sleep, the characters weren’t anything spectacular, the romance was iffy and the chemistry was MIA, there was lack of character development and too many daddy issues. And like “Heartbreaker”—the side characters were far more entertaining and engaging than the main couple.
Sadly, we just not vibing and I plan on skipping on anything this author puts out in the future.
4.5 rounded up to a 5!! this was a really cute romance, it gave all the cozy sitting around a campfire during summer camp kinda feels. a one night stand leads to forced proximity, kind of a workplace romance with slight sports romance elements.. the perfect recipe for a summer romance book! however, it was so much more than just a regular rom com, this went into some heavy topics with both Aurora and Russ’ individual family situations and personal lives, and it made me feel so seen and understood. the author did an incredible job tackling the heavier topics, specifically addiction, verbal abuse, absent parents, and alcoholism.
I loved all of the side characters equally as much as the main characters! Xander is literally the funniest man ever, and i’d 100% read a book centered around him getting a happy ending.
Deeply conflicted here, because WILDFIRE, Hannah Grace’s latest book, brought all the sizzling heat of its predecessor, but was missing that “It factor” that made ICEBREAKER such a delightfully, damning read.
*Full review to come.*
Wildfire was a wonderful follow up to Icebreaker. It was full of of all the things we expect from Hannah Grace: humor, spice, a fierce heroine, and a swoon-worthy hero. I loved the camp setting, it gave a unique perspective and added to the heart of the story. I’ll be recommending this to everyone!
Hannah Grace has done it again. The shy Russ paired with the outgoing Aurora was already such a good pairing, and then you add in the forced proximity of summer camp? Love. I will forever love a couple that can clearly state their own boundaries and communicate well with each other (even if that means pointing out when they failed at it). I felt connected to both Aurora and Russ in a way that’s hard to find with most romances. Can’t wait for everyone else to get their hands on one of my now all time favorite romances and fall in love with Russ and Aurora.
I was so excited to see this book pop up on NetGalley after reading Icebreaker. Wildfire is another heartwarming romance with a little edge from Hannah Grace. We get to meet another hockey player from Maple Hills, but if you're not a huge hockey or sports romance fan, you'll love this one. Set at a summer camp, this book is full of nostalgic summer break vibes. Its both parts adorable and deep, and it'll have you rooting for Russ and Aurora even when you want to strangle them a little bit. Loved this one and can't wait to continue the Maple Hills books as they come out.
I absolutely inhaled this book, it was so good!! While I loved Icebreaker, I think I liked this one even better!
Getting to see all the characters from Icebreaker was one of the best parts. I love the whole gang, and their group texts have always been one of my favorite things because they're absolutely hilarious. The side characters have my whole heart, and I want to be part of the friend group SO bad.
I liked both Aurora and Russ a lot too. The way they both struggled with different family problems but we're still able to be there for each other and help each other was nice, and I appreciated the way that the author dealt with a character with a family member struggling with addiction.
Aurora's reading habits were fantastic, and I loved the popular romance easter eggs. She was overall just really funny and relatable, and so was Russ! He was such a classic dog dad by the end, and I loved it.
My favorite thing though (by far) was their amazing communication and the lack of a third act breakup. This is the thing I've been complaining about, and Hannah Grace DELIVERED.
After reading Icebreaker, I simply had to know who we would get to dive into next, and Russ did NOT disappoint!! I absolutely adored this book between Russ and Rory (Aurora). Russ, the shy guy who is sweet and misunderstood, oh my goodness, I LOVED him! Both Russ and Rory had their own family issues to work out, but they clicked and complement each other so well. I adore Hannah Grace's style and I can't wait to see who we get to read about next!
Hannah Grace has done it again! Just as spicy as "Icebreaker", romance readers will love the sweet and sassy "Wildfire".
I absolutely adored this book!!! The story was very faced-paced and easy to get invested in. The author has a very poignant and rhythmic writing style that allows you to steadily follow along with the story. The romance between the main characters had so much tension that you could cut it with a knife. Definitely keeps you intrigued around every page. If you’re looking for a fun, witty, and heart-pounding summer read, then this is definitely the one for you!!
I just LOVE Russ and Aurora in this book 🫶🏼 If you loved Icebreaker, than you’re going to love Wildfire
This book had me swooning and ready to go camping! The character development and emotional awareness of Auroras mixture of self-confessed mess while also being very aware of her destructive qualities is *chefs kiss* Hannah did another great job of including real life insecurities and mental health within her books, which is something I always appreciate when reading.
I loved that this had a different feel from Icebreaker, but in the very best way!
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the chance to read an ARC of WILDFIRE. I adored how author Hannah Grace played with popular romance tropes in ICEBREAKER, and I was very intrigued to see how Grace would continue the story of our Maple Hills crew. WILDFIRE centers on Russ, the sweet, goalie who accidentally was the catalyst for the rink destruction in ICEBREAKER, and Aurora, our feisty heroine who feels like she needs to move on from some reckless past choices. After a one night stand, neither Russ nor Aurora think that they will see the other again…until they find out that they’ll be working at the same camp all summer long, and of course there’s a no staff romance rule.
Grace once again proves her mastery of weaving in tropes like miscommunication (although she thankfully doesn’t rely too much one it), forced proximity, forbidden love and chosen family to bring Russ and Aurora together. I adored both the summer camp setting and all the cameos from our ICEBREAKER crew. I appreciate that Grace writes thoughtful romances that always include consent and open discussions regarding mental health. While Russ and Aurora do fall in love (and have some seriously swoony and spicy moments), they also experience quite a bit of individual growth apart from each other as the story progresses. I think WILDFIRE would be a great choice for readers of Emily Henry who are looking for something a little more new adult, but just as angsty. I’m already highly anticipating Grace’s next book, and I’m really hoping it’s Henry’s turn to the be the protagonist!
