I'm not convinced Grace actually wrote this book? After how bad Icebreaker was I figured this one I had to read out of spite (and since I was gifted the ARC). But even from page one the chemistry and characters were so much deeper and well developed? I loved both of them and didn't find either of them annoying. There wasn't this weird 27 different plot lines that all magically get fixed in one chapter. The issues these characters faced felt real and weren't blow out of proportion. Plus Nate was only in this book for like a page? Maybe two? And Nessie was in this book even less (ps shout out to the audio books narrators that really caught the essence of how annoying she is).
The setting also really helped play up their relationship because as anyone who has ever been to summer camp can attest, those relationships progress fast and HOT, especially when their are limited semi attractive guys available to look at (not that I'm speaking from experience). Everything just felt so real and honest to these characters. Russ is such a shy little cutie pie, I could absolutely see him doing everything he was doing in this book.
Maybe it's because this book was clearly not written for wattpad and was written as a book, but everything in it felt more cohesive and flowed so much better. And there weren't all of these totally unnecessary sex scenes. Like yeah last books scenes were HOT, but they were so excessive and happened at such horrible times (like you could clearly tell Grace wanted to give at least one sex scene per wattpad release, which is why there is just SO many). But this book has just the right amount, where anymore and it DEFINITELY would've been excessive.
All this to say this book was actually quite good and I was quite surprised?
I really tried to get into this one - been seeing it in bookstores and on Instagram. But it wasn’t for me! Too long for what it was, and without a clear plot journey. Don’t love the daddy issues. Perhaps the ideal audience is college age kids who could identify more with the summer camp vibes. Wasn’t a bad book by any means, just not my jam.
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for this ARC.
Loved this book! So much passionate, sexy and romantic seasons. Such a great story with well written characters and I love that they’re back in the same universe as the first story. Would recommend!
I loved this book so so much, I’ve recommended this book to so many friends & they were all obsessed. I can’t wait to continue this series!!
so sweet (a bit less sexy than icebreaker but still BROUGHT THE HEAT) and I loved the epilogue!! i cant wait to read henrys book next omg
Hannah Grace has honestly developed such a great group of characters in this Maple Hills series. In this book we follow Russ and Aurora, who after a one-night stand end up as camp counselors at the same camp. Both Russ and Aurora are such well-developed characters with flushed out backgrounds that I was really invested in them as well as the romance. For such a new author Hannah Grace has really established herself in the romance genre and this was quite the improvement over Icebreaker so I can't wait to see how good the next one is!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
This book was an okay read. I loved the setting of this. I also think the characters balanced each other out very well and had a lot of chemistry. But when it came to the plot, I found there to be a lot of filler drama and repetitive moments or dialogue. The characters both had a lot of family issues that overtook a lot of the narrative for me. I think this is an easy read and would be fun for someone who likes a camp/wilderness setting and a one night stand trope with likable and relatable characters.
Another great hockey romance from Hannah Grace. Very spice and romance heavy, not too much plot, but I know readers of this specific trend will love and want this book.
Wildfire is the second book in the Maple Hills series, a follow-up to Icebreaker following a new pairing. I need to go back and review Icebreaker, because I definitely forgot, but it was one of my quickest reads this year! It was fun, spicy, gave me lots of feels. Contemporary romance is a hit or miss for me- Icebreaker was definitely a hit.
Wildfire follows Aurora and Russ who, after a one-night stand the night before they leave, have to work together counseling at a summer camp for kids. This places them in small proximity together and essentially makes them realize what’s between them is more than a one-night stand.
This book deals heavily with parental neglect and both characters are dealing with the aftermath of bad parenting. Russ from his father’s gambling addiction, and Aurora from her father’s overall neglect. Over the course of falling in love with each other, they both come to realize they are actually deserving of love in general. It’s heavy and also precious at the same time.
I loved getting to see their dynamic page after page. Their chemistry really did things for me and I enjoyed it so much! This book featured some of the same cast of characters from Icebreaker and added some new ones that I fell in love with.
Overall, this book was such a win. I finished the last 40% in a sitting and I feel like it’s gonna pull me out of my reading slump! These books are so fun and I highly recommend them!
More Hannah Grace? Yes please! This was a great story for readers to sink their teeth into! These characters had undeniable chemistry and I could not put it down!
This was a really follow up to Icebreaker and, much like it, managed to cover some serious topics while staying light. Just get ready because you're going to want to go back to camp.
Sometimes you find a book that is such an easy read you can finish it in one setting-- and this was one of those! I stayed up way past my bed time enjoying every last drop of this book!
While definitely steamier than I anticipated, the heat between Russ and Rory was palpable and I was excited to see where they ended up. The added level of secret romance made it even more fun!
I just hope that the next book in the series is based on Xavier ;)
What a ride! Even better than the first book in this thrilling series (and I'm even more excited for book #3)! Author Hannah Grace master's the art of interweaving spice with genuine aww-inducing romance. I really enjoyed reading this title! The only note I will add is that the pacing did slow just a bit in the middle, but I think it picked back up towards the end of the book.
LOVED this one so much!! Russ was this sweet golden retriever guy who was perfectly balanced out by Aurora's wild side. I loved the camp setting - it felt so nostalgic!! Hannah Grace has never failed to have me giggling and kicking my feet while reading a romance, which is exactly what I expect from a romance book.
The Hannah Grace romances really are just easy to read and enjoyable. Like a lot of romances this felt a little too gimmicky and silly at points and there were definitely lines that I had to stop and laugh at. However, this didn’t really make me enjoy the book any less. Excited to see where the rest of this series goes.
Hannah Grace returns to Maple Hills with Russ “Muffin” and Aurora “Rory” in this one night stand-turned-surprise camp counselor romcom. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of the next Grace read. I have to be honest that I was really searching high and low for a plot in this one. It centers around both our leads with major daddy issues, and I struggled hard with just wanting to scream at both to go to therapy and hit pause on this situationship. The camp setting was fun, albeit confusing as Icebreaker centered around Maple Hills and the college setting and hockey and then this one pivoted to the randomness of the camp setting. I enjoyed the side characters of Xander and Emilia and their friendship.
So I really think I need to move beyond the college romances because I have a hard time relating to the characters- however | will say that I enjoyed this much more than I did, Icebreaker (1st in series).
Russ was authentically himself, and that made him so much more endearing than Nate. Nate had swagger and confidence that at 21ish, just didn't make sense to me.
I also enjoyed the growth that both Russ and Aurora went through. Both were trying to find themselves and deal with some heavy family issues that had effected themselves. I enjoyed seeing these two grow and change throughout the book, which is also why I am rating this higher than Icebreaker.
Lastly, when Aurora asked Russ why he was still standing on her cabin porch, and he simply replied, "so you don't have to see me leave"- gah, that's book boyfriend material right there!
Our two main characters meet unexpectedly at a party and there is instant connection. After a one-night stand, believing they will never see each other again our characters come to work together at a summer camp. Trying to navigate working together and their own personal family problems draws our characters into some funny and heartfelt situations. The story has a good plot, and the connections between family problems was a good storyline. The connection to camp being a place of comfort and family was nice. The flow of the story was a little off for me. I wasn’t as invested in their relationship as I wanted to be. The story didn’t capture my interest as I hoped it would.
I loved this book I was surprised that this book did not follow the side couple from book 1 that we read so much about but maybe that means they will have their own book. For me personally I felt like this book was more plot and character driven instead of just spice on every other page and I really liked that we got a deeper story with this couple.
Russ and Aurora’s story was very cute and it was nice to get appearances from all the characters from her first book Icebreaker.
