This book is the perfect crime series for any and all CSI fans!!! Silent Bones is the 11th (!!!!) instalment of DI Kelly Porter, but can be read as a stand-alone. And let me tell you, this book will suck you in from the very start.
Each character is so well thought out, I love when everything and everyone has a deep rooted connection, and what better than a small town group of roughen teens turned adults holding on to the truth for 24 years… 👀
Kelly is a very relatable character, fighting between duty and her head/heart. Each side character as mentioned was perfectly executed and I felt intertwined with them all and the storyline.
Lynch brings you right into the thick of it with pathologists and investigative detectives. The jargon of these professionals brings a new meaning to the story, it’s an addictive reading feeling like you’re right in the room with them.
I do wish the ending had a bit more of a punch but overall pretty satisfied with how everything came together! I also love when you get a taste of everything coming together before the characters do, omg you turn the pages so fast 🤣
Highly recommend this one for a great crime read/series 👮🏻🚓🚨
Thank you to @canelo, @netgalley, and the talented @rachellynch for the ARC 🤍🦴
Due to release this month, July 27!!! 📖
This was the 1st time I'd read anything from this series and what a way to start! I really enjoyed this installment. I obviously amnt familiar with the characters but I still got a good sense of who they were from the writers strong descriptive style. The plot kept moving forward and had a good pace but I was shouting at my kindle waiting for them to figure out who the victim was and who the killer was! A really good book, can't wait to read the rest of the series
Kelly Porter’s past is thrown into question when the bodies of two former classmates are found; one who has been missing for 24 hours and one who was murdered after the body was found. These discoveries cause her to question her memories of her family, teachers and classmates as she hunts down the culprits of these crimes.
To echo the other reviews here; I knew exactly who did it and why before the detective did. I found this frustrating, as I waited for Kelly to figure out what I already knew. Additionally, it is revealed in the plot summary that the first body is Brian’s and it found that it took the detectives a frustratingly long time to come to this conclusion. I am a reader who likes plot twists and surprises and this book did not have that for me. However, for someone who is looking for a light read, this quality may be what they are looking for.
This was my first time reading a Kelly Porter book and to start with #11 in the series is no doubt a daunting task. However, I found that it functioned well as a standalone book. Characters pasts and the relationships between them were explained well and concisely. It allows readers like myself to get background information while lovers of the Kelly Porter series likely won’t find it repetitive since it is quite concise.
Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo Crime for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
The 11th book in the DI Kelly Porter series but easily read as a standalone! Silent Bones is a perfect police procedural.
It's a coincidence that the skeleton is discovered in the local Reservoir shocks the community as well as Porter because it is revealed to be her former classmate. Before long, other classmates are in peril and Kelly is forced to reckon with her past in this very interested entry in the series. DI Porter is a complex and likable detective with a supporting family and plenty of characters to keep you interested. If you like a police procedural, you cannot go wrong with Silent. Bones #Canelo
This is the first book of this series that I have read. This is also the first book that I have read of Rachel Lynch. I must say that it did not disappoint! I may very likely read the rest of the series after reading this book. I also must say that I was able to follow along and did not feel as though I was missing context without reading the rest of the series. This can be read as a standalone book.
I found this book really interesting, as they mystery of the discovered bones was solved, as well as the story of the detective's family. It was a page-turner and a book that I was most certainly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Have enjoyed all the previous books in the Kelly Porter series and this one hit the mark. Plenty of suspense throughout and likeable characters. Look forward to the next one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
I really enjoy this series featuring Kelly Porter, she is such a likeable character and very relatable, with all her flaws. The plot centres round the deaths of two people, former school mates and Kelly grew up with both of them. I liked the plot and the descriptive passages, the pace was steady throughout and the characterisation was excellent. This is another fine addition to the series which I would recommend to lovers of crime thrillers. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Well what can i say about book 11 in the Kelly Porter series…..? Read it, you won’t be disappointed, I personally couldn’t read it fast enough. I LOVE these books. This can be read as a first book in the series and i guarantee you’ll be downloading the others. I randomly found Rachel Lynch when looking for something to read a few years back and she’s now one of my favourite authors. Totally recommend any book by Rachel Lynch. Thank you for the advanced copy to read, it’s made my week 😀
I have read and loved this whole series with D.I Kelly Porter and this was no exception. Although book 11 in the series they are all as excellent as the previous book. A bit of a blast from the past for Kelly as it involves her old school pals but she still gets stuck in to find the killer. It’s like catching up with an old friend and wondering what she will get up to this time. I can’t wait for the next instalment. Don’t keep us waiting too long!!
Catching up with Kelly and her team is like catching up with an old set of friends.
I was delighted to receive this arc through netgalley. I eagerly raced through it as I couldn't wait to see if Kelly found her murderer.
A bit of a twist in this tale as the bones are found to be a peer that Kelly went to school with and drags her back to her school days.
Im already looking forward to Kelly's next adventure.
5 stars
One word about the DI Kelly Porter series....YES! This series has yet to have a book that I did not like !!! I could not believe the thrills from this book! One after the other! I actually got a friend of mine started on this series and she is hooked! Thank you Lynch once again!!!
I can’t believe that this is book 11 of the brilliant DI Kelly Porter series I have loved every single one of the previous books and this one is no exception it was an excellent police procedural that kept me gripped.
This latest episode of the series starts with the discovery of a skeleton in Thirlmere reservoir and when the victim is identified Kate is shocked to find he was a former classmate but then another body turns and she realises he also was a classmate things become very personal for Kate and things are about to get even worse.
I loved this book the stunning locations in the beautiful Lake District (which is not far from me) , the reoccurring characters and the superb writing by Rachel Lynch they all go together to make you feel you are a part of the story. It’s a series that never gets stale and I hope it will continue for may more books.
Many thanks to Rachel Lynch for so much enjoyment and foe a wonderful 5 star read.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Canelo for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Love this series of books, this latest addition did not disappoint. Had my gripped throughout. Definitely worth a read!!
When a skeleton is found in reservoir DI Kelly Porter investigates trying to find the identity of the person but when another person is found murdered Kelly does not realise how close to home these deaths are going to be. As the team seem to be having personal and professional troubles it is only a matter of time before disaster strikes them.
This is another in the DI Kelly Porter series by Rachel Lynch and continues to keep you turning pages and unable to put down.
This book is part of the DI Kelly Porter series. I haven't read any of this series before, but I would probably read another book in this series.
Initially, I was expecting a dark, gritty thriller, as the title suggested, but I found it had more of a cosy feel than I was expecting. I was interested in the protagonist, and interested in some of the other characters too, even if some of them seemed a little bit unlikeable. In places, I was reminded a little bit of the Ruth Galloway books by Elly Griffiths, which I like.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
I really enjoy this series so I was delighted to get the chance to read the latest instalment.
The plot was really interesting and the balance between the personal lives of the detectives and the case was just right in my opinion. I was surprised and saddened by the ending.
Already looking forward to the next book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for the opportunity to review this Arc.
It is the first book I read of this author and while it's the 11th book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.
Detective Kelly porter takes a trip down memory lane as school mates from 2 decades ago are found dead. As she goes investigates the murders, she discovers things she never suspected while she was a student.
I really enjoyed this book, not only following through the investigation but her family life also. I will definitely go read all the previous books from this serie.
As the result of a drought a body is discovered in a local reservoir and is determined to be the subject of a decades all cold case and former classmate of DI Kelly Porter. Not too long after another former classmate is found murdered. This takes Kelly back to the past revisiting old classmates and drudging up some uncomfortable memories for all.
This is the 11th installment in the DI Kelly Porter series but this was my first read of the series. I enjoyed how the author calls back to previous cases in such a way that you are intrigued to find out about them but you don’t feel like you are missing any critical information if you haven’t read them.
Pros – The prologue grabs you from the start. Strong female lead, good level of mystery and surprise around some of the victims, suspects.
Cons – Unnecessary details (clothing, cars etc.) that don’t feel like they add to story in any way. The pacing felt slow and a little predictable in some areas.
This is a solid mystery read and I will be adding more of this series to my TBR.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Part of a series featuring Detective Kelly Porter and her team. Two murders to solve ,one past, one present and the main audio went to school with Kelly. Much to solve and lots of twists.
Book 11 in Rachel Lynch's Detective Kelly Porter series set in the Lake District. As a fan of this series I was pleased to receive this copy to review and certainly was not disappointed. The book begins with the discovery of a skeleton revealed as the hot summer weather reduces the water volume of one of the lakes. This is quickly followed by another fresher body at a local campsite. Both victims turn out to have been at school with Kelly. Kelly's investigations soon begin to throw doubt on her long held beliefs about some of the people she both grew up with and those she looked up to growing up. Another cracking book from Rachel. Thrills from beginning to end.
Thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
