Wow what a spectacular stunner of a book this was! Atmospheric and chilling. A wonderful wonderful thriller. i just couldn't put it down. I recommend this one and all the books in this wonderful series very highly.
Detective Katie Scott and firefighter Chad Ferguson have gone to the cabin to celebrate their engagement, but in the morning, Chad is gone! Katie is devastated, and although the local police are on the case, she can’t help but get involved…it is what she does. In time, she returns to work to investigate the body of a woman who was murdered, her eyes and her pinky finger removed. There will be more bodies and they soon realize that the case is eerily similar to one from years ago, but the killer was arrested and is in prison. Is this a copycat killer? Katie begins to believe that this case is somehow connected to Chad’s disappearance. The killer soon begins targeting Katie as she pushes forward with the investigations. Will she find and stop the killer and learn what happened to Chad? I have enjoyed every Katie Scott book, but after all of the suspense and danger, I was a little disappointed in the ending. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
She wondered how much heartache a person could take.”
Going back to work was difficult for Detective Katie Scott. It has been over a month since her fiancé Chad disappeared without a trace. This left Katie broken. Along with her partner McGavin, as well as her canine partner, Cisco, Katie is working to investigate what appears to be a copycat serial killer case. She struggles to remain focused on the case, with constant thoughts of Chad.
Katie plows forward on the case of a murdered young woman. The manner of death was brutal and Katie is determined to find the killer before another life is lost. Details begin to surface during Katie’s investigation, and she begins to wonder if this case is connected to Chad’s disappearance.
What a thrilling book! I literally could not put it down. While Katie’s case was compelling, the mystery of Chad's disappearance kept me on tenterhooks. Now I find that I almost cannot wait for the next book in this stellar series, especially as the ending left me wanting for more.
Many thanks Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Another rollercoaster read in this brilliant series.
I read this in one sitting in a few hours. Katie’s personal life is turned upside down with the sudden unplanned disappearance of Chad. While battling with her loss she and the team are plunged into a series of murders and so follows a nail biting faced paced race to solve the case which at times looks like it may just be the death of them too.
Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book and for letting me take part in this tour. This is the tenth book in the Detective Katie Scott series.
I really felt for Katie in this one. She wakes up one day to find her fiancé has disappeared without a trace. There are no leads and no real reason why he would have been kidnapped. I think for me the worst thing would be the not knowing. The complete unknown of if he is dead or alive. If he is injured or being tortured. It just seems to difficult. I don't know how Katie managed to get up in the mornings let alone go back to work. I honestly don't think I could cope.
The case was a twisted one. The killer really enjoyed playing game with Katie and the team just because he could. I found the whole thing very tense and I just kept hoping everyone was going to be okay.
Cisco was as usual a great addition to the story. I love how we learnt more about Katie's K9 training in this book. I am a big dog lover so to see how hard they work and what goes into being a trained K9 was really interesting to me.
The book is left on a cliff hanger which did irritate me as I really wanted that storyline resolved. I am eagerly awaiting the next book where I really hope it is resolved!
If you love an edge of your seat thriller that will keep you reading way past your bedtime then this is the one for you!
Her Dying Kiss (Detective Katie Scott Book 10) by Jennifer Chase is an intriguing crime thriller.
I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to be on vacation and wake up in the morning to find my partner has disappeared with no trace.
In one scene, a good point was made about victims would never know they became a crime statistic or the victim of a serial killer. Another great sentiment is love doesn't teach us how to live without it, and Katie was struggling with her losses.
There were some heartfelt reactions from the characters, especially when Katie was at her parents' gravesite and her talking about missing them, missing Chad, and not knowing what to do and not being able to move forward.
I was not a fan of the ending. There was one sentence about why the culprit committed the killings but not really explained well. It seemed rushed.
I do want to find out about Chad, so I will read more from this author and in this series. A good read and a good story; a 4 out of 5 stars for me.

I have to admit that I got totally emotionally invested in the storyline of this book.
Katie wakes up to find that she is alone in a cabin where she has gone to spend a bit of time with her fiance, Chad. There is a trail of blood drops, which is very concerning indeed. Despite Chad's disappearance and Katie's grief, she needs to get her head in the game because there are murders occurring on her patch and her team needs her.
These are gruesome murders indeed and the main suspect is in prison so it can't possibly be him but how to explain it all? Luckily Katie has her K-9 Cisco by her side, for emotional support as well as practical support when it comes to her cases. Someone from her past comes back into her life, which complicates things as well.
A great read and I can't wait to read the next one!
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
A rollercoaster of a ride involving Detective Katie Scott and her canine Cisco. When Katie's fiance Chad goes missing overnight, she is devastated and unable to function but her team need her to investigate a brutal killing. The book is fast paced and well written, with interesting plotting. There were a few unbelievable moments in the plotting but overall, I liked it and would read the next in the series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
It’s Been a month and Chad is still missing. Katie has been non functioning but as bodies begun appearing, minus some parts, the team needs her back.
The perp likes to play with explosives as Gav and Katie work the clues to hunt down the killer.
I was nitty gritty in the case but kept wondering what the outcome for Chad would be, which didn’t get answered.
I’m not sure what’s next for Katie, but I loved all the scenes with Cisco, the wonder dog!
Gripping from the beginning, this is the best of the series! So much suspense that had my heart pounding. I love that we learn a bit from Katie's past. And meet some different characters. The fast pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat. The end made me yell at my kindle and shake it. The next one can't come soon enough!
You go away for a vacation together and wake up one morning and one of you is just……gone. Just disappears with no warning or evidence of what may have happened.
Main character, Katie, has so much going on wondering what happened to Chad, her fiancé. It is hard for her to concentrate on anything else except his sudden disappearance. But, her team needs her to help with several murders. As they begin to investigate, Katie wonders if Chad’s disappearance could be related to the murders. All Katie knows is she is going to find the killer and Chad no matter what she has to do.
That ending…..what a cliff hanger. I’m not sure where author Jennifer Chase is taking us. Something I will ponder on until the next book in the series comes out.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions/thoughts expressed are solely my own.
Jennifer Chase's Her Dying Kiss is a meticulously crafted police procedural that captivates readers with its engaging plot and well-developed characters. When Detective Katie Scott's fiancé goes missing, she embarks on a relentless pursuit to unravel the mystery.
As she delves deeper into her investigation, she comes across a chilling murder with unexpected twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the very end. Chase's attention to detail and extensive research bring authenticity to the narrative, while the dynamic partnership between Katie and her colleague adds depth to the story. With its immersive writing style and relentless pacing,
Her Dying Kiss is a gripping crime thriller that will leave readers eager for more, despite the explosive cliffhanger ending.
Pow, pow, pow... the punches just kept coming in this high octane thriller. I am shocked and speechless, and I am never speechless. Detective Katie Scott is enjoying a night away at a cabin with her future husband, Chad, who is a hunky firefighter. She wakes up the next morning, and he is missing. It is if he simply vanished. There are no clues to be found; not even tire marks. She withdraws and cannot seem to function. However, her team needs her when a gruesome discovery is made. They ask her to please come back and use her special skills to help them track a vicious killer. A young woman's body is found. She has been strangled, completely cleansed and her eyes are missing. That fact gave me chills. When another body is found in the same condition, they know they have a serial killer on the loose. The more chilling fact is that these murders closely resemble the work of a serial killer who is in prison. The more they work on this case, the more Katie is convinced that Chad's disappearance is connected to this ruthless killer. The killer leaves odd clues that seem to connect to Chad. It is a race against the clock to find the killer before he strikes again. The action was jet-fueled and explosive, literally. They are up against a cold, calculating killer who is a savage.
Katie is a highly intelligent woman with keen observation skills, and she knows how to read people well. She also has no fear and is always on protection duty. She is former military and it shows in her reactions and actions. I love her K-9, Cisco. He is also a highly trained officer. The mystery is complex, and I could not figure it out no matter how many clues were provided. If you enjoy a high octane mystery/police procedural, you will enjoy this book and this series. I now anxiously await the next book in the series.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. Our favorite man Chad has gone missing, and there are no clues and no leads, Katie is of course super distraught and isn't working or answering the phone for anyone.
When a clue is found at the scene of a murder that seems to point at Katie and Chad, Gavin and Katies other friends and family rally behind her and get her on the case. This was just what she needs along with some old friends to give her a boost in investigating what happened to her fiance.
I love Katies unique way of looking at cases and crime scenes, and I loved how even though she was severely missing Chad and wondering what happened to him she could still figure out what was going on with the killer.
Cisco as always is one of my favorite animal sidekicks and he always steals whatever scene he's in! We also get to learn more about Katies as we meet some new people from her past. The story kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next, and if we were going to figure out what happened to Chad. I loved the new characters, and McGavin and the Sheriff are still favorites.
I can't wait to see what the next book is going to bring!!!
4.5⭐
Detective Katie Scott is back in a cracker of a story.
As Katie faces her toughest case to date. As she and partner McGaven investigate a potential serial killer who is basing their kills on convicted killer Simon Holden.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg. As a month ago Katie's fiancée Chad disappeared whilst on a romantic weekend break with Katie. And there have been no sightings of him since or evidence to explain what happened. Apart from some drops of blood and a bottle of champagne laced with drugs.
However, Katie and her entire department are determined to find out what happened and bring Chad home.
The only problem is the more Katie searches for answers the less anything makes sense. Especially when it appears Chad's disappearance is linked to the killer she is currently hunting.
But how?
And will finding the killer mean finding Chad and bringing him home safely or has Katie lost him forever?
And with a storyline that grabbed me from the very first page, great pacing, shocks, twists and moments where I was literally screaming 'no way' at my Kindle. This was a brilliant read and my favourite of the series so far and I genuinely can't wait to find out what's going to happen next.
I would thoroughly recommend Her Dying Kiss to all.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read an advance copy of Her dying kiss by Jennifer Chase. This is the 10th book in the Detective Katie Scott series, and I can't believe how much I love this series! This was a super fast read for me as I couldn't put the book down! I had no clue where the author was going! Katie is under extreme emotional distress as her fiance Chad has disappeared on their romantic getaway. As she is trying to figure out Chad's disappearance, her partner, McGaven is left dealing with a series of women's murders which seem to be a copycat of a case from years ago. When newspaper articles about her previous cases are found at the crime scenes, Katie begins to connect these murders to Chad's disappearance. Are the crimes being committed by a copycat, or is the convicted murderer somehow connected and playing a twisted game?
One of the reasons I love this series is the connection Katie has with her K-9 Cisco, her partner McGaven and Forensic specialist John Blackburn. They totally meld as a team. My only small complaint is the abrupt ending and hope the cliffhanger is resolved in the next book.
If anyone enjoys reading Sara Driscoll's FBI K-9 series, you will love the Katie Scott series!
Have enjoyed all the previous books in the Katie Scott series and this one hit the mark. Plenty of suspense throughout and likeable characters. Look forward to the next one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
Her Dying Kiss is book 10 in the Detective Katie Scott series by Jennifer Chase.
And this is another great addition to this amazing series.
This one was gripping as always and kept me hooked.
A fantastic police procedural with great characterization, plot & suspense throughout.
Fast paced, addictive, gripping and page turning.
This is another exciting book in the series that had me reading well past my bedtime, unable to stop.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Another great crime thriller from Jennifer Chase.
Katie’s life is in turmoil after the disappearance of Chad and she’s hiding away from her friends.
A murder brings her back to work as her Uncle knows this is the right place for her.
McGaven is pleased to have Katie back but her mind is partially still on finding out what happened to Chad.
With more victims found, McGaven and Katie soon have their hands full trying to find the killer.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This was a quick read and perfect for anyone who loves a bit of a gory serial killer story. It didn't so much feel like the case was solved, the killer kind of wanted to be caught so it wasn't much in the way of police procedural and the missing fiance isn't resolved so can't say I rate the policework skills lol, it's definitely entertaining though and has plenty twists and turns. I read it as a standalone but it's clearly written as part of the series and the cliffhanger ensures you'll need to read the next installment for closure. Which I will definitely be doing!!
