I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Dying Kiss’, book 10 in the Detective Katie Scott series written by Jennifer Chase, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Whilst on a break between cases, Detective Katie Scott and her firefighter fiancé Chad are staying in a cabin in the forest. When she awakes Chad’s side of the bed is empty and the only sign that he’s been there is a trail of blood drops leading to his SUV. A month later Katie is asked to return to work as women’s bodies have been found with their eyes removed and the hollows covered with pink velvet. As clues are discovered Katie can’t help thinking they’re connected to the disappearance of Chad and she’s determined to find who’s responsible.

‘Her Dying Kiss’ is another gripping and nail-biting thriller from Pine Valley Police Department as Katie searches for Chad, the reason he’s been taken and by whom. The plot is well-constructed with plenty of action, excitement, drama, twists and turns and several possible suspects, with the tension increasing as Katie and McGoven risk life and limb. This is an exciting thriller that involves Katie’s K9 partner Cisco and introduces Nick and Evan, her former colleagues from the Military Police. It’s had me gripped from the very first page, unable to stop reading as Katie searches for answers, and with the cliffhanger in the final pages I certainly hope there’ll be another episode in the series which I’m already looking forward to.

Why? Why did you end this one with such a cliffhanger? Anxiously waiting for book 11 to see how everything plays out. This was a solid addition to the Katie Scott series that left me wanting more!!!!

Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.

HER DYING KISS BY JENNIFER CHASE
This thriller was a no for me, I didn't enjoy anything. It was boring and I didn't feel like the detective, Katie Scott and her team solved anything. the perp just revealed himself at the end.
In the beginning of the book, Katie's fiance was abducted and I expected for him to be found and his case solved, but there was no conclusion. I didn't like it, i'd have preferred if his case was solved.
The only thing I liked was that Katie was open to receiving help from her friends during her difficult time, most times in books, the main characters do NOT like receiving help from others. I liked the K9 part too.
Anyways, I was still able to finish it

Another entertaining installment of the Detective Katie Scott series! This one definitely has plenty of plot twists and confusing elements to keep you on your toes. Katie’s finance goes mysteriously missing under suspicious circumstances, and then there are serial killer that brings Katie back to work. There were some odd moments to me, between Evan and Katie, and I’m curious how this will all work itself out it upcoming books. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

I feel the need to start with a warning, this book does not resolve everything and you will be hanging out for Ms Chase to hurry up with book 11. I really enjoy reading this series, I like the characters and that while there is a romantic relationship, it’s the mystery and investigation that takes Center stage. This book has pulse pounding intrigue from the get go. Katie desperately longs to find Chad but has a murder she needs to investigate and the reader is able to feel the extra anxiety of Katie’s need to find justice for her victim and find her fiancée and the juggling act she has to handle. At book 10 some series are starting to feel like the author is phoning it in, so this new dramatic twist really kept me engaged and I may have yelled at the end and wanted to throw the book in frustration, ahhh the downside of reading on an iPad, the risk of damage is too much to allow one to vent frustrations. This book could easily be read as a standalone but is better as part of the series and definitely MUST be read before embarking on book 11. Hopefully the time until #11 is released is short 🤞
Thanks to Ms Chase, the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this to fans of DK Hood and Rita Herron. 4/5 stars, I had to take off a star for the cliffhanger

Arrrrrrggghhh why did it have to end there? I honestly hand on heart think this has got to be the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers in all the years I have been reading!

If you are after a book that has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster and has you second guessing everything than this is the one for you and if you haven't yet read the whole series WHY THE HELL NOT?

I have been a huge fan of this series from the very first chapter of Little Girls Sleeping and wait in anticipation for every new installment, book #11 will be no exception.

Detective Katie Scott is enjoying a cabin break with her fiance Chad, when she awakes the next morning he is gone without a trace. No communication, no leads as to where he has gone... Katie is distraught. Locking herself away with her K-9 dog Cisco she sees no way forward, unaware of what is happening around her and the case her partner McGaven is having to investigate without her.

The whole team are missing Katie and the unique way she investigates crime scenes until her uncle who is also the Sheriff ask her to return and help solve the case.

Young women have been found strangled and with their eyes removed, Katie feels the crime scenes are staged and reminiscent of a past serial killer but he's serving a life sentence in solitary confinement. Has he somehow orchestrated all of this or is there a copycat on the loose?

This is a real edge of your seat, explosive thriller that had me forgetting to breathe at times! My only gripe is the fact that the explosive cliffhanger has left me freaking out not knowing what's happened 🤣

A massive thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

One month after detective Katie Scott's fiance Chad abruptly goes missing, her world has narrowed down to chasing down lead after lead in the hope of finding him. But to her frustration, nothing seems to yield any concrete results.

Meanwhile, a disturbing case lands on her desk: young, beautiful Gina Hartfield is found brutally murdered, her body carefully washed to remove all traces of her killer. Fearing more such killings to come, the local community is in an uproar.

So with a heavy heart, Katie realises that - despite her lack of success in locating Chad - she must now transfer her attention to hunting down Gina's killer. What Katie doesn't expect is to find is that she may have a personal connection to Gina's case.

While examining the crime scene, she comes across an article about some of her earlier cases pinned to a tree. And vehicle tire tracks found indicate a possible link to Chad's disappearance.

So, is Katie herself the common factor in these cases?

This was a serial killer storyline, which delivered a number of twists. The violence was a little graphic for me, but it was a quick read. This is a good fit for those who enjoy serial killer themes and don't mind a side of the grotesque to accompany their main dish.

Detective Katie Scott. lol #10 - Katie and Chad are on a romantic night away. In the morning Katie discovers Chad is gone without a trace. Weeks later he hasn’t been found and Katie immersed herself into a serial killer investigation. How does this case tie into Chad’s disappearance. Will they find him and the killer before more people die?

Explosive event after explosive event through every twist of this book!

The book starts with a bang when Chad, Detective Katie Scott’s fiancé, disappears from the cabin they are staying in together. A month later she returns to work to try to find more clues on his disappearance, and help her partner solve a new crop of serial murders popping up.

I’ve been a huge fan of this series from the beginning, and This book is twisty and action packed as always. Loved it and didn’t want to put it down! My only complaint is that a huge part of the storyline was left on a cliffhanger, and I’m freaking out not knowing the conclusion to that part. Can’t wait for the next adventure and to see if we get any resolution in the next book!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!

Why does this give mentalist and criminal minds vibes.. which I was excited about but there was just some points I questioned. I won't go into details and it was a nice read overall.

Katie’s fiancé disappears in a strange manner. As a detective, Katie sets out to find him AND find the person responsible for multiple murders close by. This was a good detective story, and I enjoyed the characters.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Dying Kiss, the tenth novel to feature Detective Katie Scott, of the fictional Pine Valley, California Sheriff’s Office.

A month after Katie’s fiancé, Chad, disappeared in mysterious circumstances she is once more at a murder scene. Gina Hartfield is lying in a mountain clearing, her body washed, her eyes and pinkie finger removed. A newspaper article about one of her and her partner, Sean “Gav” McGavin’s cases makes her think it is personal and may be linked to Chad’s disappearance.

I enjoyed Her Dying Kiss, which is a different kind of novel to its predecessors. There is still the violence and multiple murders, but they almost come second to Katie’s terrible sadness and struggle to keep focus on her case.

There isn’t much new in the serial killer plot line in this novel and I’m more than ok with that as I like the weird crime scenes and the way the investigation gathers information to drill down on a suspect. There isn’t much to go on, so the novel is full of action scenes, where Katie gets physical damage to go with her emotional hurt. It’s exciting and keeps the reader fully engrossed right up till the denouement, which takes the form of an explosive showdown. The action in it is great as usual, but I thought that the explanations were rather low key and a bit of an afterthought to all the action and emotions. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, more of a “is that it?” feeling. Still, the journey to get there was absorbing and entertaining, if blanketed in Katie’s misery.

Katie is a tough cookie, but Chad’s disappearance has blunted her thought processes and made her lose some of her get up and go and sparkle. She’s a bit dreary in the novel, but I applaud the author for trying something different and keeping the series fresh. There is a sense that this may be the start of a new direction where feelings have a stronger emphasis. Time will tell.

Her Dying Kiss is a good read that I can recommend.

I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have been a fan of this series since it came out and this book did not disappoint. It starts off with a bang and doesn’t let you go the entire time. When Katie’s fiancé, Chad disappears from a night at a cabin and he’s still missing a month later, Katie is still in a panic but goes back to work to help find him and help her partner, Gavin solve what possibly looks like a killing spree. Are these crimes and Chad missing related? Can’t wait for the next book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book

Detective Katie Scott and her fiancé Chad are enjoying an overnight break at a cabin. The next morning Katie wakes up to find Chad gone with no trace of his existence. Devastated but dedicated Katie and her partner McGaven investigate the deaths of young women, who are found with their eyes removed and left pinkies cut off. The cases appear to copycat a serial killer who is locked up in jail. Along the way their are explosions and break ins.

Love this series. As a dog lover I just love the relationship between Katie and Cisco and I spend the whole book hoping the dog is ok. Really enjoyed this story, a complete page turner that I couldn’t get enough of. The suspense and evidence trickles in slowly and keeps you hooked. Cannot wait for the next book!

She wakes to the dawn light streaming through the window and rolls over to whisper good morning to her fiancé. But panic floods her veins. His side of the bed is empty and cold. Blood trails towards the open door. All trace of him is gone…Engaging and exciting from the beginning. A very realistic feel for the reader,
definitely worth reading

It’s been a month since Chad Ferguson, Katie Scotts fiancé, disappeared overnight from a cabin they were sharing for a romantic weekend getaway.  Katie, on leave from her department, has received no recent news from the agency investigating Chad’s disappearance.  Aside from the trace findings of doxylamine, and an injection site in the cork of a bottle of wine they shared, there seem to be no new leads, leaving her despondent and heartbroken.

Meanwhile, Katie’s partner McGaven has caught a murder case and the staging of the scene is eerily similar to that of convicted murderer Holden, who remains incarcerated, but steadfast in his claims of innocence.  Desperate for Katie’s assistance, he calls on an old friend of hers to pay her a visit – her old Army Sergeant, Nick, whom she considers family. As Katie slowly opens up to him, she shares what little she has on Chad’s disappearance.

The next day, she takes a hike to meet her Uncle, the Department Sheriff – quickly realizing he’s lead her to a recent murder scene. Something in Katie’s memory stirs – it’s very familiar to her somehow, reminiscent of an old scene…but that murderer is in jail. But being on a fresh scene gets Katie’s mind working – and she realizes it’s time to return to work.  She also learns that the killer has been leaving articles from her prior cases – including a case Chad had been involved with…

As Katie gets back into Detective mode, it becomes more and more apparent that this new case may be connected somehow to Chad’s disappearance. As new clues make themselves known, Katie’s team works around the clock searching for answers, nearly losing their own lives in the process…yet, a solution remains elusive. It will take all hands on deck to bring down this killer, but will they find the answer Katie so desperately seeks?

This book takes off like a rocket and does not let up! Plenty of danger, drama & suspense will keep you turning the pages well into the night, but I feel like (aside from the obvious – you;ll see what I mean) there remained a lot of unanswered questions at the end -  we learn some - but not all - of the killers motivation, unless I missed it, so I am presuming it’s all part of the cliffhanger that will keep us all waiting anxiously for the next book in the series!!  But I hate the waiting!!!  This can be read as a standalone, but I think some of the backstory from earlier novels may help a bit in unpacking this one!!  Another home run for Jennifer Chase!!

Available tomorrow, July 17th, from your favorite bookseller!

Jennifer Chase pushes her heroine, Katie Scott, emotionally, physically, and cognitively in Her Dying Kiss... it's an outstanding writing effort! Katie is reeling from the disappearance of her fiance, Chad, who was abducted when they were taking a romantic getaway at a cabin. A month passes, and women are murdered... and the killer seems to be leaving a calling card to pull Katie back into investigative work. Along side the absolutely wonderful, Gav, Katie works to unravel the piling deaths and determine what it may or may not have to do with a convicted serial killer, WOW WOW WOW! Again, this book is so dang outstanding! Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Detective Katie Scott’s fiancée, Chad disappears from their bed at a cabin while on vacation in this tenth installment in the series. Katie and her partner Sean McGaven investigate the case of dead, maimed women turning up around town. They think they are somehow connected to Chads disappearance and murders committed a long time ago. Katie, Sean and her k-9 partner Cisco fight for their lives in this edge of your seat thriller.
This was an excellent book and I can’t hardly wait to read the next in this great series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read this ARC that will be released July 17, 2023!
