The Girl Who Lied by Shannon Hollinger is a fabulous, and compelling book I couldn't keep down. For real! I have come to love Maggie and Steve. Every character in the book has a past, is messy but the author still somehow manages to draw out the likeable and almost likeable parts about them for me. Just like real life no one is flawless and without baggage which makes for a very interesting read! Maggie & Steve work well together despite having a dark past & being unaware of who their partner used to be. I even loved Margot who was just a side character in the book. Despite the lack of any shocking twists, this book was great. Somehow everything about it works out and I loved it. Coyote Cove seems like an atmospheric small town & I can't wait to hang out on it some more despite the murderers and creepy townsfolk!

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & Shannon Hollinger for the arc!

Enter Coyote Cove, a tiny Maine town absolutely full to the brim with deep, dark secrets and unpredictable plot twists.

I enjoyed the character development and the element of "do I really know them?!" when a new secret was revealed. Maggie, the protagonist was definitely likeable in my eyes.

It's been a while since I've delved into a new series and I'm glad The Girl Who Lied was my choice. Such an excellent book which really does leave you raring to go for the next in line; I cannot wait to revisit Coyote Cove and truly look forward to future reads by Shannon Hollinger.

I didn't vibe with the characters like I was hoping I would. And the story kind of fell flat for me for that reason.

This book is number 1 in the series and what a way to start. I love short chapters, so this was definately the book for me. Im also a fan of the unpredictable so if you are, you may like this book too.

I wanted to love this - but I didn’t!! It jumped really quickly from person to person without really fulfilling what I needed from the previous person! So it felt disjointed, and a bit small town for me!
I just didn’t really feel the characters and at times had to go back to check who it really was!
Hate to give a 3 ⭐️ but it has to be done.

This book hooked me from the beginning and has left me wanting more! I can’t wait for the next book in the series and to learn more about the secrets that were alluded to in book 1. Very thoughtfully written, with switches from first person narrative to third person to convey a feeling of a person gone off the deep-end. A twist at the end that leaves the reader itching to get into the next book! Great read.

Thank you to NetGalley & Shannon Hollinger for the wonderful opportunity to read and review this novel.

This is the first book in a series of an author I have not read before, and I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the storyline. This book follows police chief Maggie Riley as she is starting in a small town called Coyote Cove. Most of the townspeople do not know that she was a detective before in a previous job but had to leave due to some secrets she has from her former life. I like how there is an underlying mystery surrounding her background that is separate, but still weaved in the book.
There were a few twists in this story that I did not see coming, and I really enjoyed this book. I will definitely read the second book in the series when it is released.

It's ok - not fabulous. Maggie is a bit annoying actually and I just can't relate to her which may be why I'm struggling to read the rest of the series.

Sorry but it's only a 3/5 for me

This is gripping and pulled me in very quickly. I was so invested in this, I was unwilling to put this down. This is unpredictable and I was fully pulled into this one.

I love Maggie, she’s a brilliant character why I definitely want more of her. Hollinger has perfectly given the small horn vibes.

The Girl who Lied Is a fantastic start to a new series. I love all the twists that take place. This is perfectly paced and well written.

As a reader you are transported. It’s easy to feel as though you’re watching this play out ahead of you.

I really liked this one! I enjoyed how the story was told through different POV, and kept you guessing until the end. A great "whodunnit" that kept me interested from the very beginning.

The Girl Who Lied by by Shannon Hollinger
Narrated by Amelia Sciandra is the first book in this new Chief Maggie Riley `which is a Police Procedural series and what a brilliant audiobook/book this was. This was a audiobook that just gripped me from the beginning till the end and the narrator Amelia was excellent. Its full of twists and turns throughout that will just pull you in especially as the storyline and Chief Maggie Riley was a brilliant character, I wanted to read more about her.

There’s a storm approaching the tiny Maine town of Coyote Cove when Chief Maggie Riley came across the body of a man, blood seeping from stab wounds into the damp forest floor. As she desperately struggles to secure the evidence before the rain hits, Rain hammers the earth and a vicious wind rattles the trees. Then lightning strikes again, the flash illuminating a young girl staggering out of the woods, her brown eyes wide with fright, a silent scream on her lips…...Her name was Heather, a local teenage girl, emerges from the woods, shivering and unable to talk.

Maggie, was once a high flying big-city detective, she lost everything when her four-year-old brother went missing five years ago. Heart-broken, she’s never stopped searching for but now she is plunged back into the world she left behind. Maggie discovers that, the victim knew secrets of everyone in the isolated Coyote Cove. It seems there are more local suspects in this case than people she can rule out.

Where does she start from?

With Heather still traumatised, Maggie struggles to unravel her strange appearance at the crime scene.

Heather is then kidnapped, the battle to identify the killer becomes a race against time to save an innocent girl’s life. With the whole town terrified, Maggie is shocked to uncover that this twisted killer is much closer to home than she’d ever imagined.

Maggie still battling her own demons and memories of her missing brother. But, how far will Maggie have to go to save Heather?

Or will another innocent young life be lost forever...?

WoW this audiobook was excellent I highly recommend this audiobook/book 5 stars.

Big Thank you to Netgalley, the author Shannon Hollinger and Bookouture for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Chief Maggie Riley stumbles upon a body in the woods on her run, just as teenager Heather comes out from the clearing. Is Heather connected to the body? However, soon the reason for Heather being in the woods is discovered. Then Heather is kidnapped and the race is on to save her life.
A new introduction to Chief Riley, provides a twisty police procedural. Told from multiple points of view, the plot soon unravels layers of secrets. A great new series and looking forward to reading the next instalment already.

This is a phenomenal book. I love reading Murder mysteries and thrillers. My family thinks it’s weird but that’s ok. I would definitely recommend this book to all of my friends that love to read especially if they love a good thriller.

The Girl Who Lied by Shannon Hollinger
Chief Maggie Riley #1

Excellent ~ Couldn’t put it down!

What I liked:
* Chief Maggie Riley: brilliant, capable, skilled detective, has secrets, derailed professionally after losing her younger brother and moved to Coyote Cove, Maine, in a relationship with her neighbor-Steve, upholds the law, have a feeling she has an agenda that will play out in this series
* Steve Winters: financial wiz who lost his fire and moved to the country, understands and loves Maggie, has secrets, sometimes depressed
* Wanting to know the secrets Maggie and Stever are holding close
* The murder mysteries to be solved and finding out who the murderers were
* Being glad I was NOT friends with more than one character in this story
* The setting, plot, pacing, and writing that was emotive, visceral, visual, immersive, emotive, and at times humorous
* How all the pieces fit together seamlessly
* That it made me think and feel and care and consider the “what-ifs”
* Wondering what will happen next

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how evil, cruel, abusive, and amoral some people can be and what it would be like to be raised by such a person

Overall it was a good book. It wasn't as faced paced as I liked but good nonetheless. The book follows Chief Maggie whe discovers a body in the woods. As she is containing the crime scene a young girl arrives looking terrified. I really enjoyed Maggies character and fearlessness. The book didn't give too much detail about her past. I'm assuming more will come in the books that follow. I'm going to continue with the series as they come to see what happens. The ending wrapped everything up well. The only thing that i didnt like was all the different POVs. It was difficult keeping track of who everyone was. I would give this book a 3.5 rating.

Really enjoyed this title - it kept me turning pages and I definitely wanted to read more. The character development is a bit abrupt, and there are some incidents of unreliable narration that were a little suspicious but I still enjoyed the book enough to want to read more. Maggie is a small town sheriff who finds a body in the woods with a local teen standing in shock nearby - and soon discovers that this out of towner had more connections to people she knows, and to herself, than she could ever have realized.

A suspenseful and surprising start to a new series.
