A great start to I hope a long series! Chief Riley lives in a teeny tiny town, and its people are not the most welcoming. Being a woman who is the Chief of Police does not help. She has lived quite the life, and is now escaping her past. Luckily she has been able to build a new life, and found a place like home, but her past is about to catch up with her... A man has been murdered and a local girl has gone through something traumatic, and these events are about to stir up the life in the Cove.

Great, flawed, at times weak, but mostly strong characters are the strength of this book. They all have tales to tell, and the reader slowly finds out details about their pasts, and they all have something they desperately need or want to hide.

The case is intriguing, and not everything is what it seems to be. It is impossible to let go of the book once you have started reading it. Its very well written, and it is all working so harmoniously together that I was even surprised at times. I was worried that it would get too messy in my head having so many characters telling the story, but turns out it worked extremely well for me. Highly recommended!

What a page turner! First off, I want to say that I love seeing a female police chief, especially in a thriller. I've read a few with a female police officer or detective, but love seeing them as chief. This is definitely a great start to a new series with a mystery filled with twists and turns. I'm excited to see what comes next from this author!

This was an interesting read/listen. I was lucky enough to have both, and each brought their own unique perspective to the story.
The story itself was interesting, full of secrets, how many secrets can one couple have. The relationship between the two police departments was interesting. It is still fascinating to me how that relationship works in the states.

Heather, the girl in the title, is a fascinating and well scoped out individual. She really keeps you guessing.
This book definitely read like the start of a series with a timeline plotted out to answer the outstanding questions.

I was given an advance copy of both the audio and the book by netgalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely my own..

I'm always on the lookout for new-t0-me authors and mystery series so when I heard about this book, it checked both boxes, the premise piqued my interest and I decided to give this first book in a series a try. I'm glad I did.

Maggie Riley is running from her past. Leaving a distinguished career in law enforcement in Florida she flees to the backwoods of Maine to become the police chief in tiny Coyote Cove. All is going well until a body is discovered, brutally stabbed with no identification. Maggie is preserving the crime scene until the State police can assume control when a disoriented teen, Heather, wanders in with what appears to be bloody hands. Maggie can only wonder if Heather has any connection to the dead man.

As the investigation gets underway, the threads lead to more bodies--some hidden for years--and it's up to Maggie to follow the clues and uncover secrets long held in her small town.

This is an excellent start to a new series. Although I had doubts that all of the loose ends would be tied up in this book, most clues were satisfyingly answered. I thought the pacing was good and the characters interesting. Maggie has emotional baggage but does a good job of putting aside personal biases when it comes time to finger the murderer. I think I have found a new mystery series to follow.

Thank you to NetGalley for offering me the ARC of The Girl Who Lied!

Chief Maggie, Heather, Steve and Murphy are all narrators within this book. Typically, it is confusing for me when reading books with multiple POV— however this book kept me engaged the entire time.

I had so many guesses for twists as I read the story but I didn’t see the final twist coming! Definitely a great, quick read that will keep you guessing the entire time!

This book left me dumbfounded. In a good way. The characters are flawed and intriguing. The case is twisted. The multiple points of view add a lot of depth. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is a great start to a new detective series. I love the location, and how there is a sense of foreboding everywhere. We get the points of view of several characters, which keeps the reader guessing and engaged. Everyone seems to be hiding something, and there are definitely layers that will need to be uncovered in the subsequent books. There is an air of an unreliable narrator, and like we're definitely missing something - I thought this added great intrigue to the book. Looking forward to reading more! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

I love everything @thiswritersays writes, including her new book: The Girl Who Lied. This crime novel is the first in a new series following main character, Police Chief Maggie Riley. The setting is the tiny town of Coyote Cove in Maine. This tiny place is full of people who are trying to keep their secrets hidden. The story is packed with surprises and twists. I am looking forward to reading the next two books in this series and highly recommend checking this book out, along with the other books that Shannon has written.

Thank you @bookouture and @netgalley for allowing me to read and listen to this book ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.

What a gripping and hard to put down first book in a new series by Shannon Hollinger! This is how you do it! I was drawn into the story from the very beginning and didn't want to put this down until the very last page! I enjoyed the POV's, the mystery, the use of secrets, and deception in this book.

Chief Maggie Riley knows a thing or two about secrets. She has some, Steve, the man she loves has one, heck everyone in this book does (don't we all?). I thoroughly enjoyed how they all came into play in this book.

Driving home from work one night, Maggie comes across the body of a man who has been stabbed and a local teenager (Heather) standing beside him with a look of horror on her face. His won’t be the only body that is found in this book. Fingers point to Heather initially but soon she is released. Questions swirl, who is the killer, why was Heather there that night, what happened in the woods?

I had both the book and audiobook which made for a very enjoyable reading experience. I thought the narrator of the audiobook did a great job bringing the story to life!

There are a nice number of twists, turns and revelations in this book. This one kept me on my toes doing my own super sleuthing trying to solve the case. I loved how there was more to the characters than meets the eye. They are all flawed, have secrets, and captivating POV's in this book.

I enjoyed the mystery and look forward to reading more of this new series! It is off to a very promising start with a great female lead character in Maggie.

I appreciate the ARC of this new mystery series Shannon Hollinger. I like the main character Maggie Riley who is the police Chief of Coyote Cove in Maine. She's got a secret past as do other characters in this book), Slowly revealing their stories as the mystery moves along. I was really into the plot until half-way through when things get muddled. a main character suddenly loses their mind and that's where the book takes a turn for the worse. For me anyway. If you're a fan of the film Primal Fear, this is for you.

This one pushed my betwixt between button. I read the blurb and excitedly started to read. It grabbed me and kept me the whole way through the book and provided a jaw drop or two. Maggie and her boyfriend Steve have secrets. As you read this mystery thriller (that's what it is to me) you are invested, you are following along and every little crumb is turned over. This is a great read, truly. I needed to know the deep dark secret, not just part of it. It left me wondering if I would be left not knowing in book 2, or 3. I personally would be more invested having the nitty gritty and following along in subsequent books. That is my only hang up. The book delivered on suspense, intrigue and small town feels. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #TheGirlWhoLied #ChiefMaggieRiley #ShannonHollinger #Bookouture #NetGalley

I have the habit to let the publishers and authors know on social media the book I am currently reading.
Often authors react saying they hope I en joy the book. This also happened with this one. My answer was that I found it a very intriguing story. I was about half way through the story at that point and now I have finished it the feeling has not changed.

The author really hold the readers in her grip by only giving us a little sneak here and there and each time I was hoping she would reveal all the secrets, but nope, she did not. lol I am still wondering and pining after the big revelations, but I suppose I will have to wait to discover more about Maggie and Steve in her next book. I love this, but it's a little frustrating because I am dying to know. ;)

The name of the village Coyote Cove fits perfectly. Coyotes are also a bit sneaky, mysterious and not very trustworthy and that characterises a lot of the villagers too.

I loved the short chapters and the different points of view. I could not make my mind up about who the culprit was. There are some really good actors here who put you on the wrong foot very easily.

I loved everything about this book and I cannot wait for the next one. I just have to find out what is going on. It drives me crazy, but those are the best books. 5 stars

Thank you

First in a new series and a new author for me. I really wanted to love it, but I just didn't. I honestly can't pinpoint exactly what I didn't like - the dialogue, the characters, the setting ... All I know is that this was one I could easily put down and pick up later. It didn't have been glued to my seat.

Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.

Really liked the summary of this. Following Chief Maggie Riley who discovers a body while driving home. Heather a local teenager is found standing nearby.

The book started off really well telling multiple points of view. I was intrigued by how it was going to come together but unfortunately, the pace was really slow. In the end, I was just flipping pages to see how it all came together. This book just wasn't for me.

Book one in an exciting new police procedural series featuring Chief Maggie Riley. Maggie is a decorated former homicide detective from Florida who fled to the small town of Coyote Cove, Maine 4 years ago to escape a disturbing incident that caused her to implode. She is joined by an interesting cast of characters, each with secrets of their own. What a fantastic book! Told from multiple points of view, you feel like you are getting to know the characters – but do you? Lots of twists and turns make this an unputdownable must-read book and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and author Shannon Hollinger for the advance read copy of this book.

On one night Maggie discovers a body on a logging road. Then she meets Heather McGillis, and they form a bond over several days. Maggie wants to know why Heather is out in the middle of the woods at night. So begins the mystery behind the body and Heather. This story is told through different people. It is well written and great descriptions of the location and people. No spoilers as you will have to read this for yourself. I will be recommending this book.
