This new series by Shannon Hollinger introduces us to Chief Maggie Riley of Coyote Cove, Maine. Maggie discovers a victim with stab wounds and tries to secure the scene before an approach storm can wash away any evidence. When a young woman appears from the woods unable to speak, Maggie's skills will be tested to solve this mystery. Having left behind the pressures of being a big city detective, Maggie thought her current job would provide a slower pace and allow her time to continue searching for her younger brother who has been missing for five years. The current case, though, pushes her back into the ugliness of secrets and violence, even in a small town. It's an exciting read, and I can't wait to see what happens next for Chief Riley!

If crime thrillers with a strong female lead are your jam, you’re sure to enjoy the new Chief Maggie Reilly series. Maggie Reilly is the police chief in the hamlet of Coyote Cove, Maine, where there’s usually not a lot going on. Once a highly decorated homicide detective, Maggie fled her old career for the quiet and isolation of this tiny town. So it’s quite a shock when she stumbles across a dead body that has clearly been the victim of foul play. At the crime scene, Maggie also finds a terrified local teenage girl named Heather. Why was Heather in the woods that night, and what does she have to do with the victim? Will Maggie’s past come back to bite her?

You’re going to want to clear your schedule when you sit down to read this, because it’s so perfectly bingeable that once you start, you won’t want to stop! Multiple POVs mean you get into the minds of Maggie, Maggie’s boyfriend Steve, her lieutenant Murphy, and young Heather. They all have something to hide, and you won’t know who to trust. I loved the police politics between Maggie and Murphy and the state police, especially the way Maggie didn’t let the men get away with any sexism or nonsense. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see how Maggie’s story plays out!

The first and second books are both being released on the same day, so you can go right from binging The Girl Who Lied into Their Angel’s Cry. Book #3, The Shadow Girl will be out in September, so you won’t have to wait long for the next installment either! Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.

I’ve been looking for something with similar vibes as the Lacey Flint books and I finally found it in this series. The case was easy enough to follow but not so easy that I figured it out on my own. The setting and mood are perfect for a small town Crime novel and I looooved the characters and their relationships.

The writing is amazing too. I cant wait to read the rest of the series. I’m obsessed

This is the first book in the Chief Maggie Reilly series. Wow. What an excellent book. Police Chief Maggie Reilly is working in the desolate and quiet town of Coyote Cove in Maine. Driving home, she finds a stabbed dead body and a girl standing there. Thus, confusion, gossip, and suspicion is brought to this small town. Chief Maggie Reilly is hiding a bunch of her own secrets as is her partner Steve.

I really loved this book because the characters were so likable, however, I'm on the fence about trusting any one of them. There also weren't a lot of characters so it was easy to focus on what was going on and who said what. This was a total page turner. I could not wait to see what happened and what secrets would unfurl. The next 2 books in this series are set to release in August and September so there won't be a gap in between books.

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC. I highly recommend this book and am grateful for the ARC.

Chief Maggie Riley is living in Coyote Cove, hiding from her past. It is a quiet town, not much happens. Until she drives home and finds the body of a man.
A young girl, Heather, is standing close by, terrified out of her wits. Why is she there in the woods late at night?

Soon, bodies seem to be piling up, Maggie is being thwarted by the State Police who think she is incompetent. She has to solve the murders before more lives are lost.

An absolute page turner! There is so much going on in this book, but thankfully, not so many characters that you have to keep paging back to see who is who.
I think I like Maggie, she has secrets in her past that she is obviously hiding from, and little by little, I think all of them will be exposed to the reader.
Her partner, Steve, also has something to hide, more than Maggie already knows. I think his past is intertwined with hers in some way...... the books that follow will enlighten the readers - I hope!

I am looking so forward to the next in this series, Maggie understands the quirks and ways of the townspeople and doesn't judge them too harshly.

Great read, and of course, a female lead, which I love, who isn't perfect, but is oh-so interesting!

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

In the town of Coyote Cove, Police Chief Maggie Riley finds a stabbed body on one of the logging roads and from that moment on, the quiet life of the town is disturbed by suspicions and secrets.
The story alternates between different points of view but does so in a smooth way that does not alter the pace. The characters draw you into the reading and are well characterized.
I found myself intrigued all of the time and devouring the pages trying to unravel the mystery.
I certainly loved it and am looking forward to finding out what other secrets Maggie and Steve are hiding. So here's looking forward to the next book in the series which I'm sure will be well worth it.

Ok…

I gotta tell you I’m all over the map about this one.

First…I could not put it down, there was so much going on.

Second…I’m still not sure I trust a dang person anywhere in this town.

This for me was a different type of crime thriller read. That being said, it was hard to put down. And I’m still scratching my head on a few aspects. But I will say this. I need the next book because man I need to figure out some things. This may be the first time I’m not sure I like or trust the main character. A total conundrum for me. The jury is still out.

This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. Maggie Riley will solve the mystery. In the meantime, she will take care of those around her despite copious secrets. Family and friends, along with love and romance, keep this story moving Quickly. The characters are realistic. This is a talented and gifted author at weaving a tale of mystery and intrigue.
