I didn’t like this book at all. The creepy setting was great but it was really really slow until the very end. There were way too many side stories that were just unnecessary. I felt like the dad showing up was so random and I thought that was going to be a bigger storyline than it was. Don’t recommend.

Claire has moved on in life after she loses her husband and is now happily in love with George and is all set to start her new life with her daughter Lizzy and son Liam, but as they are all celebrating the new beginnings they all get the biggest shock as Claire’s husband Declan re-appears and the same night he ends up dead!
Who killed and why, as no one from George’s family even knew about Declan!
This was a good fast paced, kind of nail-biting once the dead body is found – I finished listening to this book in 4+hrs (had to increase the speed to 2.5x just to know what was happening!!)
thank you netgalley, Triona Walsh & Bookouture Audio for approving the Audio ARC in exchange for honest review.

A perfect crime set in a remote location, seriously nothing can’t stress me more than this. Overall this is a very nice reading the characters made this book come to life and that is something I really appreciate when I read a book. Plus the ambiance was very well elaborated need to admit the book was slow at the beginning and got me wonder when the good story will start. But it is a very good slow paced book. I recommend it if you like this type of thrillers and I need give a massive thank you to NetGalley, for this ARC in a exchange of a honest review I just reviewed The Party by Tríona Walsh. #TheParty #NetGalley

I started this audiobook while I was at work. But when I left work, I grabbed pizza for my family and had to finish this book on my kindle!!! I was engrossed and I had to know what happened! It grabbed a hold of me from the very beginning! I did not expect the thrills this book gave! Triona Walsh nailed it!

I really enjoyed this book and it had so many twists and turns. A great psychological thriller for the summer. It definitely kept my attention and I didn't have the urge to skip ahead because I was afraid I would miss some key details. I also liked the end which was a real surprise!!!

I loved this audiobook!!!! Apart from a stellar narrator the actual plot was amazing!
It’s been five years since Declan O’Shea’s death. Ever since, his widow Claire and their two children have been picking up the pieces of their shattered lives.

But now the family is healing. It’s the day of Claire’s wedding, at her adoring new groom’s remote country estate. The sounds of laughter and clinking glasses ring out in the warm evening air. It’s the fresh start they’ve all wished for.

Until a voice interrupts the perfect night. Declan steps out of the shadows. He says he still loves Claire – and he’ll stop at nothing to get his family back.

By morning, Declan O’Shea will have died for the second time.

Claire will do anything to protect her children and her new life. But everyone has a motive. And as shocking secrets are revealed, Claire is forced to wonder whether any of the people she loves best in the world can really be trusted…

Triona Walsh is great at building up suspense and the twists in this novel were SO GREAT

Genre: Thriller/ Mystery
Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Plot twist: 😮😮😮/ 5
Narrated by: Roisin Rankin
Audio Quality: Good

The Party takes what some might see as an overdone “Who done it” dinner party plot and makes it entirely its own with twists and turns around every corner.

This book predominantly follows Lizzie who has recently been released from rehab and is off on a family vacation to celebrate her mothers wedding.

When they arrive to the secluded mansion in the woods the friendly weekend away turns sinister with uninvited guests, murder and untold family secrets wreaking havoc on our characters.

The Author did a great job creating motive for each character and making the reader question who could have done the crime until the very end. I also enjoyed that we didn’t get stuck on the who done it and had interesting side plots that kept the story entertaining from start to finish.

Notes on Audio: The narrator did an incredible job at bringing the atmosphere to life and giving each character a defined personality. The narrators accent complimented the characters and setting of the book and they were able to shift to different accents for characters that were not Irish.

Thank you #netgalley for providing this arc audio for review.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for sending me for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

When I was approved to listen/read “the party” by Triona Walsh…I was definitely looking forward to it! I mean…It’s a Thriller…an audiobook…and it is based in Ireland! Sold!

The premise alone intrigued me! In this story, we are introduced to Clare and her two grown children, Liz and Liam. This family is no stranger to tragedy. A few years prior to the start of the book, the family patriarch, Declan lost his life in an tragic accident. Fast forward to the book’s start, where we see Clare marrying a new man, George and moving towards a bright, new future. The damage of the past has definitely had an effect on both of her children, especially Liz, who has just been released from rehab. But for Clare, the past is in the past. If only that was true, because to everyone’s surprise, Declan is still very much alive! He shows up on the couple’s happy day, asking Clare for a second chance! However, before she can debate her next move, Declan is found dead the next morning. A big question looms throughout the story…who killed Declan?

Based on the Netgalley description alone, I was expecting a character driven story told in first person, focusing solely on Clare’s perspective. However, this story seemed to be a plot-driven narrative, focusing more on Liz’s perspective. Also it was told in third person, which had the tendency to make the story a little confusing for me. For example, when the story mentioned the characters’ names, I had to remind myself, for example, that Clare is the mother and Liz is the daughter.

Although, the narrator, at times, seemed to lack emotion in her delivery, I actually enjoyed her accent as she moved through the story.

All in all, I did like the first and last 20% of this book, as it had more action and suspense scenes. Even though it was not the most memorable thriller for me, I am glad that I had the opportunity to read this book.

The Party goes on sale June 23rd!

you enjoy stories about really messed up families with quite some twists and turns this is the book for you!
It starts wirh Liz fresh out of rehab to meet her mother's new husband and the rest if her family.
They all do have some pretty heavy experiences to overcome but things start to get even more twisty during their vaccation.
I never would have guessed the development throughout the story and ended up liking it a lot without wanting to give away too much!
Roisin Rankin barrates this book in a wounderful way!!!
Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for an advanced audiobook

I really enjoyed this audioARC, which centres on Lizzie’s nightmare weekend at her mother’s wedding.

Recently discharged from an inpatient facility for alcoholics, she arrives hoping to repair her relationship with her mother and brother and to stay strong in the face of free-flowing champagne.

The bride and groom have been kind enough to arrange tea total celebrations, but Lizzie doesn’t have time to relax for long before an unwanted surprise guest arrives and threatens her mother’s happiness.

Cue a murder mystery on a rural estate with no phone signal plus documentary evidence of another murder a century ago, and you have all the makings of a suspenseful thriller, which is ramped up by the other characters’ broken trust in Lizzie, so that they don’t believe her deductions that they are in mortal danger …

Highly recommended. The only reason it’s a four-star rather than a five star read for me is that the murderer was a little too obvious a little too soon for me.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Triona Walsh for letting me enjoy this ALC of The Party.

This thriller was a fun listen filled with plenty of potential suspects. I thoroughly enjoyed the different twists and turns the book contained.

This book had a little bit of everything from strained relationships to murder. I will definitely recommend this to my bookish friends!

I like to keep my knowledge of a book to a minimum before reading/listening, so this one was full of surprises. From the first, unexpected visitor, to the twisty-turning conclusion, this one kept me on my toes! The Party offered a fun, interesting and thrilling look at all of the secrets that a family may hide, and how you may not really know the people you believe you're closest to.

Claire is getting remarried to George. They go to a country estate along with her daughter (Lizzy), her son (Liam) and George’s daughter Fraya and Frayas new husband Hudson. Lizzy has been an alcoholic and is working hard on being better. She got in a drunk driving accident in the past and her brother was in the car when it happened. There are tensions between them.
Claire and George are surprised when Claire’s dead husband shows up. He faked his death, and he wants her back. Well guess what? The ex husband does for real. Who is the killer? Everyone could have a motive.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
I thought the book was not a thriller until about 75% in, it felt more like a drama. This book lost my interest a few times, it was a slow burn. However I liked how it had a different type of storyline, the back from the dead then really dead was a nice change. Also the family wasn’t at each other’s throats from day one which is also a nice change. I enjoyed the twist of why George and Claire got married. And the killer reveal, I never guessed that person, so I also enjoyed that twist.
But all in all, it was too long and drawn out in my opinion. The MC was actually Lizzy and as for the party, I feel like that’s not the right name for this book. I finished this book because I wanted to give an honest review but I also had to put it down a few times due to boredom. I do want to say that the narrator’s voice was nice and I didn’t have a problem with her at all, it was the actual storyline that I felt was drawn out.

I listened to this audiobook in 2 days. It was so good that I spent extra time cleaning, etc so that I could keep listening. I love the voice of the main character and how she tells the story. There were several twists that kept me guessing. Great read!

Unfortunately I found this one a struggle to get through. I found the characters all very wooden apart from Lizzie. The events throughout the book were to me quite farcical and you really has to suspend belief. When the supposedly ‘Dead’ Declan walked into the house no one seemed to be overly shocked and then when he was killed no one seemed to want to do anything about it. I’m sorry but just to far fetched for me. I guessed very early on who the killer was so there wasn’t any surprise there. I’m puzzled by the book title as it really wasn’t anything to do with a party at all. Even though I didn’t enjoy this one it won’t stop me from reading more by this author as I thunk she has a lot of potential. I did read her debut novel ‘The Snow Storm’ which I loved, so I’m hoping her next read will be a better one for me.. I would just like to add that I had no problem at all with the narrator on this audible book it was just the actual story line so am giving it 3⭐️ for the narrator

So good!!! This is my first Triona Walsh and I have already downloaded her debut The Snow Storm--if that is even half as good as this sophomore novel it will be amazing!

The Party introduces us to Liz--fresh out of rehab and set to spend time getting to know her mother's new husband and family.. Things are not as they seem and when a blast from the past--her presumed dead father that led to her rock bottom returns all hell breaks loose.

Slightly confusing as the synopsis is told from the perspective of Liz' mom, Claire, the POV character in this is Liz. Liz was a perfect narrator for this book--having hit bottom and now embarking on her redemption path, those around her find her unreliable and untrustworthy.

The story was incredibly addicting, I was midway through a romcom eBook but I started this to have an audio while doing chores and hitting the gym and planned on going back to my eBook--that did not happen as I was hooked on this story. I cannot wait to dive into The Snow Storm and to see what is next for Triona Walsh.

The narration on this one was phenomenally done. Not being European and with an untrained ear I can sometimes have trouble with certain accents in audiobooks and have had to switch to reading the book in the past so I was a little worried when I first started listening, but Roisin Rankin was easy to understand, and I felt like she captured the personality of Liz perfectly.

I wasn't sure what to make of this when I first started as it took me a while to get into it but when it did it really picked a punch. The loose ends worked out and all tidied up in the end. I had to keep listening to find out if I was right and how they did it and why.. Okay yes some of the plot devices are interesting but it is a good thriller and for that I really enjoyed it.

This was my first by this author and narrator but it wont be the last.

I was given an advance copy by Bookouture and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

The premise of this book is intriguing but it was a bit slow for me. I love the concept of the locked room mystery, but ultimately the story didn’t grip me.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator’s voice is beautiful. However, the pace of the book and the languid audio made it less engaging.

Many will love this book but it wasn’t for me.

The Party by Tríona Walsh is a good mystery to listen to. I like how everything is unveiled and all of the little nuances throughout that make it different from your average mystery. Early on I had an inkling as to who was guilty, but didn't know anything definitively until much later on, which I appreciated. That being said, there is one part toward the end that I found illogical and too many descriptions to set each scene, which began to feel like filler to me; I zoned out more than once and found that I didn't miss anything.

Roisin Rankin is not my favorite narrator as I found myself frustrated with there being zero distinction between the characters' voices.

Overall, I rate The Party 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC.
