Do I love Hilarie Burton or what? Loved this Grimore- which I had no idea the meaning of until I picked the book up. I initially had interest in this book for Hilarie alone. However, hr continued collection of stories and sharing parts of herself kept me hooked in this novel. Her collection of recipes, stories, and history were intriguing and enjoyable. The witchy ideas she’s incorporated into her daily life were fun to learn about, and of course perfect for an October read. In addition to her previous book, Rural Diaries, this gives you a look into the people, places & things that helped shape Hilarie into the wife, mother, friend, and person she is. It also encourages you to make your own grimore!
Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.

I really enjoyed Hilarie's first book "The rural diaries" and so I was excited to see she was coming out with another book. This was not anything like the Rural diaries. Maybe I'm not the intended audience for this. A lot of the book is talking about her personal history and what she wants to be as a legacy for her kids which just doesn't interest me.

Really enjoyed this book! Loved getting to know more about the author, and I enjoy the mystical elements that she adds to the story. I find the astrology, spells, and the spiritual elements interesting and cool. I really loved Rural Diaries, so was excited to read this and it didn’t disappoint. The author’s writing has an authenticity to it that pulls you in. I appreciate a book that has you thinking outside the norm, and has a base in connection. Looking forward to more from Burton Morgan! I appreciate her spirit!

This book is such an inspiration! The author's voice is authentic and relatable, she gives practical advice for every day under the guide of "spells." Her ideas are well thought out, unique and aspirational. Her personal stories of loss and grief are powerful, and her examples for coping are so relatable. I would recommend this book to adults and teens alike- regardless of their religious belief. This is a first book to start your own witchy collection- and a great framework for creating your very own familial grimoire.

Vibes: Witchy. Free-spirit. Tips. Lessons. Mischief. Farm life. Blackberries.

My review: I’m not a biography person. No one fascinates me enough to want to dive into their life and maybe know more of what’s not on the surface (eh, maybe except serial killers). While Grimoire Girl is not a biography, Hilarie shares tidbits of things she’s learned in her life….in the most unpretentious way possible. I finished this book in awe about how much I absolutely, positively LOVED learning what Hilarie has learned. Not only that, I wanted some of MF Libations’ blackberry gin and ordered a bottle (oh, the burn!).

I came out of this book wanting Hilarie to be my friend. She’s the cool mom, the one who has all the knowledge, and is a problem-solver. But she’s this in a way that bees are to flowers - it’s just meant to be. It’s not forced, it’s not shown in a way that is bragging. She’s absolutely down-to-earth, and I love that for her.

I learned a bunch. This carried the vibes of a crisp autumn day, when you’re sipping tea (or coffee), and are focused on whatever you love to do in your free time. The love that she puts into this book is felt, like a warm blanket keeping your tootsies warm. I was toasty and intrigued the entire time.

I've been a Hilarie Burton fan since her MTV and One Tree Hill days. It's been so amazing to watch her career blossom over all these years, and as a bookworm, seeing her write books now is SUCH a treat. I haven't read Mischief Farm yet but when I saw Grimoire Girl pop up on my NetGalley I had to try to get it. To say I was thrilled when I got approved is an understatement. Knowing Hilarie's personality I just knew I was going to love her as a writer. This book has proven that for me.

Although I loved everyone on OTH, Hilarie as Peyton Sawyer was always my favorite because I always felt a connection with her. This book, Grimoire Girl, has deepened that connection even more for me. She talks a lot about spirituality and magic and creating something to leave for your children or other people in your life to have once you're not here anymore. How that even if you didn't grow up with family traditions as a child, creating them for your own family is so important. Not just for the memories, but for the ability to pass them on and on. I had never really thought that much about traditions and where they come from or what they can mean to people. It made me want to take the ones in my own family more seriously and to not take them for granted with the people I love while they're here.

One thing I really loved about this book was her describing having an altar. It could literally be anything. Something in your home that you can go to each day and say a little prayer, no matter what that looks like to you. Somewhere you can light a candle if you want and set things that you love and that are important to you on. For me, that's my bookcase!

If you're a witchy girl and like all things spooky, this book is for you! There's magic talk, ghost stories, the importance of herbs and spices and a recipe or two. Also, how finding your people is so, so important and life-changing! Those people that you connect with on a completely different level than everyone else. It made me want to dance around in the woods around a fire with my fellow witchy friends.

‘Grimoire Girl’ is many things in parts: recipe, memoir, spell book, a letter from a friend. Hilarie Burton Morgan has such a great way of writing, it feels like you’re talking with a friend. There’s a lot of wisdom here, hard fought lessons and truths. It’s such a pleasant read, the mood is relaxed and curious. I really loved it!

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperOne for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book. I wasn’t sure what to think going into it but I already knew I loved Hilarie and The Rural Diaries so I was sure it was going to love this one too! It did not disappoint!

Whether you picked this book up for the author's takes on magical practices or because you can't resist hearing from Hilarie Burton Morgan (me), you'll find plenty here to enjoy. It feels deeply personal versus prescriptive, and the author's passion for the topic, as well as for all things she loves and holds dear, comes through clearly.

Burton’s writing is conversational and approachable. Her subject matter is a charming mixture of her own wisdoms and memories that make up the inheritance—or grimoire—that she wants to leave her children.

I loved reading this book. It was easy, it was fun, and it had some parts that made me look inward and consider my own thoughts on the matter. (I’m a river person, like Burton. You’ll get it when you read the book.)

Overall, this was a 5 star read for me. It is exactly what it says it is and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hilarie has such a way with words. Just like her last book, Grimoire Girls is like having a conversation with a best friend. She shares anecdotes about her close personal friends that have shaped who she is abs explained the little things in love that create our “me-gic”. I especially love the overall themes of self love and living life to the fullest and authentically.

While pregnant with my second child I got wrapped up into the world of one tree hill. I became enchanted by Payton…. Years later as life settled down and children got older I rediscovered her in one of my fave genres of True Crime with It couldn’t happen here.
While scouring NetGalley I found a book, lo and behold there was one before , while I did make sure to read her first before delving into this one, it’s not necessary to do that.
This book hooked me from the first line. I love how she dissects religious beliefs and goes into Greek mythology to uncover what we have known all along, women are powerful beings. The haunting pictures and slices of poetry sprinkled in just spoke to my inner witchy voice and have found a new love.

I was a huge fan of one tree hill and I loved the rural diaries, so I was really excited for this. I love the idea of incorporating a little more magic into my life and the way Hilarie described grim podes was fascinating and made me want to make my own! I feel like this isn’t a book that benefits from being read in one or two sittings, since it is less of a book than a collection of stories, recipes, lists, quotes, and instructions for making a grimoire. I read a bit here and there and I think that was the way to read it, for me at least. I highlighted multiple sections and ideas that I want to try. 3.5 stars.

I spent Monday nights in high school watching One Tree Hill & it saved me in so many ways. I loved Hilarie’s first book, Rural Diaries, so much that when I saw she was publishing a second, I knew I needed to get my hands on it!

“A Memoir of Magic & Mischief ” - I loved the way this book was laid out. Hilarie tells us, through stories of her own life, to create our own grimoire - collect pictures, trinkets, memories, etc - that can serve as memories & inspiration for our lives. At the end of every chapter, there was a “magic potion” recipe that put a fun spin on things. You can hear Hilarie’s enthusiasm & wisdom right through the pages as you’re reading & she creates a really special world to dive into.

I highly recommend this, & her first book Rural Diaries, if you like memoirs & if you’re a fan of Hilarie or One Tree Hill! I’m going to her book signing in a few weeks with @asolid_reads_it_all & I can’t wait!!

This was SUCH a cool book! The memoir aspects were interesting, it was perfectly spooky and had so many tips and resources for creating a grimoire of your own. I tried to read it slowly but had SUCH a hard time putting it down. I'm already planning a re-read that I'm planning to annotate so I can use it as a guide for creating my own grimoire!

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper One for the ARC of this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Books for this advance copy.

Although I'm not usually a fan of nonfiction, I did find myself enjoying this book. While guiding the reader through the journey of making their own personal grimoire, Hilarie manages to weave in personal stories, history, and mythology. She also included recipes and information about crystals, spells, plants, astronomy and so much more. I didn't know what to expect when I read this book, but I was touched by many of her stories. Her writing style felt very conversational to me and made me want to sit on a porch with her, drinking tea and hearing more of what she has to say.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. I loved Burton-Morgan's debut a few years ago and I couldn't wait to read this one especially with the title of Grimoire Girl! This book definitely lived up to my high expectations for this book. I learned even more about the author and she gave tons of practical tips and recipes etc. I loved the format of the book and the short chapters.

I laughed, I cried, oh I cried a lot. Hilarie just has a way with words. I felt like I was reading a letter from a good friend. The love magic she has embedded into this book is so good. She is a wonderful storyteller and made me feel like she was right there talking to me. I will definitely be adopting some of the practices, using the recipes and reading the books she recommends. If you loved The Rural Diaries you will love this one too.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperOne for providing me with an early copy of this book.

I read Hilarie Burton Morgan’s previous book “Rural Diaries” and remember liking it. This book solidified that there’s something about her writing style that I enjoy. It’s almost conversational or something you’d hear on a well-done podcast. In all, I read this book in one day because I found it to be engaging and quick.

At first, I was apprehensive about the content of this book. I got a feeling that it was going to be something along the lines of New Agers who pick and choose from various cultures and traditions. However, it quickly went away once I realized the book’s subtitle “Creating an Inheritance of Magic and Mischief” was embedded in its core but also not what I was thinking.

I found myself delving deeper and deeper into what Burton Morgan was saying. She grew up with not having tangible knowledge that was passed down from generation to generation. As she learned to rewrite what that passed-down knowledge was, she found that she did have an inheritance from the generations before but it wasn’t physical.

I enjoyed how we the reader are introduced to how to create our own inheritance for others while Burton Morgan learns about how those around her have established their own inheritance even if it doesn’t seem like they realized it. She’s affirming that we can create practices or traditions for future generations or even those around us.

In the end, this book is truly about creating a “legacy and passion for living” (her words but I loved them as a great synopsis). In a time where we’re 3+ years into a global pandemic and lives have been lost, it’s a nice reminder to think “What is my legacy?” on a micro scale.
