What a beautiful collection of essays & poetry!
In "Daughter,' author Ebonee Davis takes the reader on a journey through her life & experiences as a young black woman. While I was expecting this book to be mostly poems, I was pleasantly surprised to see several essays in this memoir. These beautifully-written pieces allowed readers to get a bird's eye view of the author's influences, environment, and the things that most shaped her life and outlook. Thank you, Ebonee Davis for opening up to us and giving us access to your journey to healing, self-acceptance, and self-love. I appreciate the read and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of Daughter in exchange for an honest review.

This was a beautiful collection, that will tug at your heart strings. Davis has lived an extraordinary life, and has used her platform to speak out and help others. This book gives us a small peek into that life, with moving poetry and essays that are brimming with emotion. Cannot recommend this enough!
"Daughter" by Ebonee Davis seems to be a deeply personal and reflective journey into the life and experiences of a young black woman in America. This collection of poems and essays promises to offer readers a profound insight into the complexities of breaking generational cycles, healing from trauma, and embarking on a spiritual awakening.
Ebonee Davis appears to share her story with unflinching honesty and vulnerability. This memoir-style collection is likely to resonate with a wide range of readers, as it touches on universal themes of growth, healing, forgiveness, and self-love. The author's exploration of these themes within the context of her own life experiences is likely to offer a relatable and empathetic perspective.
The timing of this collection feels particularly relevant, as it addresses issues of self-discovery and healing in a world that is constantly evolving and presenting new challenges. "Daughter" appears to encourage readers to embark on their own journeys of self-awareness and self-acceptance, emphasizing the importance of looking inward as a path to personal freedom.
In a world where stories of resilience and self-discovery are increasingly important, "Daughter" seems poised to offer a powerful and inspiring narrative. Readers interested in memoirs, personal growth, and reflections on the human experience may find this collection to be a compelling and thought-provoking read.
Beautiful spoken word - I would love to listen to the author read this!
Interconnected, generational trauma, what it's like being Black, growing up in poverty, now being a model/in the fashion industry,
Part memoir about the author’s life and mostly personal reflections on family history/background/ancestors.
“Survival” and “Accountability” are my favorites!
Thank you NetGalley, for drowning me in sorrow. This poetry collection is pure emotion and I felt at home between its words. Thank you, Ebonee Davis.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the chance to read and review this book.
Unfortunately, I didn't like this book. Poems like "Recipes" or "Daughters" were just not good, even when you try to recite them as slam poetry. I like that the author does write about her family history, but the opening essay was just trite.
incredibly touching and moving, i read this collection of poems (and essay) at 3:00 am in my kitchen and it was beautiful, some of them even made me cry (in a good way).
4.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Ebonee Davis for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review
While I was definitely hoping for more poetry in this book, everything Ebonee wrote was beautiful. I especially enjoyed the essays at the end about the media and its influence as well as sexuality. Highly recommend this one!
