Iris is a chef and she moves to NYC for a fresh start after losing her mom. She meets Gio who works at his family's Gelato shop. The shop is at risk of closing if they can't recreate their famous vanilla gelato. Iris finds a picture of her mom at the shop with Gio's uncle many years ago. She also finds the famous gelato recipe. Iris does not want Gio and his family to know who she really is, so instead of giving them the recipe she works hard to help Gio recreate the gelato. Iris falls in love with Gio's entire family, will she fall in love with Gio too?
So this is a rough one for me, first off I did like this book but I also got very frustrated with it also.
The plot and the characters are great. It was the lack of communication that was the issue. I know a lot of these romance/rom-com type of books have this issue and with that some do it well so its not so annoying and others are just tough trying to read. Sadly this was the 2nd one for me but I read through it and still enjoyed the book.
The bigger issue is that the main character was holding a bunch of secrets and was lying, that was a struggle for me also. But if this doesn't bother you or annoy you go for this book.
Lots of chat about Geleto and now I am wanting to try it.
So I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet but i am enjoying adding in a few Christmas vibe books, and can't wait til December when I go all out. lol
I am so glad to have read this book it was an easy read. :)
Sadly, I was left disappointed with this one! I absolutely love Josie Silver and think my hopes were too high. The focus on the ice cream was just slightly too much and too unrealistic. Additionally, the trope of getting in too deep with a lie just didn't fit into this book. The need to keep up the lie was just a ridiculous plot device used to create conflict.
If you're looking for a book to make you crave vanilla gelato and a hot family man to fall in love with A Winter in New York is for you!!
This jumps from past to present, following the story of Iris and her mother. Iris, who is so close with her mom, struggles with the loss of her and finds anyway she can to connect with her mom now that she's gone. When her mothers pictures lead her to a little restaurant, she meets the most handsome man, who is in desperate need of help with his family's gelato recipe, one that Iris may have the key too.
What really stands out in this book is the atmospheric setting—Silver beautifully captures the charm and energy of New York City during the holiday season. You can almost taste the gelato and feel the crisp winter air as you get lost in Iris’s world. The plot, while predictable at times, is comforting in its familiarity and is elevated by the rich descriptions and emotional depth.
Overall, this is the perfect quick read to cuddle up on the couch with while it's freezing outside to get into the holiday mood!
This was a good romance. I enjoyed the Christmas vibes and the holiday cheer. The Author was able to both give us a cozy, romcom style romance with a bit of a vacation. Ask five. I really enjoyed the development of the characters with an attention to the main female character, I found that her story was the one that I loved, reading the most.
I absolutely love a New York setting! It took a me while to get into it but once I did I was hooked!
This holiday romance novel is a cozy, heartwarming tale that perfectly captures the spirit of the season. Set against a backdrop of festive decorations and winter wonder, the story follows two characters who find themselves thrown together in unexpected circumstances. Their initial differences spark tension, but as they navigate holiday traditions and shared experiences, a charming romance begins to bloom.
I really struggled to get into this book. I had to start it probably 3 different times before I finally got into it. Overall I found this to be a fine read, it honk I just had higher expectations based on the description.
im honestly just not a fan of Britt lit and becuase of that I couldn't get into it. however if you are someone that enjoys Britt lit and a slow burn with not a lot going on you may love this one.
I found the setting, the meet-cute, and the family history to be particularly enjoyable aspects of the book. It was an excellent read for the winter months.
Josie Silver stole my heart with "One Day In December" years ago and she continues to be one of my favorite romance authors.
You would think that life couldn't get more complicated and emotional after loosing your mom and movie across the sea from London to New York, but Iris is in for a doozy when she realizes a few things: 1. The Big Apple is called big for a reason and she risks loosing herself amongst the hubbub of city life - good thing her best friend Bobby is there to keep her anchored. And 2. The super secret gelato recipe her and her mom shared doesn't seem to be as super secret as she once thought. The new hottie and his uncle appear to know it too. So she signs on as chef to help 'replicate' the recipe and keep the shop from going out of business.
This was a sweet and heartstring tweaking story of love, loss, and family ties. Sometimes it might feel that the people we know the best might actually be strangers to us after all, but that isn't really the case.
Iris really grows into her own and finds her place in the new environment she finds herself in. There are challenges, but Silver does an amazing job of creating strong multidimensional characters that feel relatable and real. I will always be willing to read what she publishes.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
I moved from the Midwest to Texas in spring of last year. As much as I disliked driving in snow, I do miss the magical aura of watching it come down outside. Hence, why when I saw this book combined not only a winter in New York but was also written by one of my favorite romance authors, I just knew I had to read it.
Once Iris loses her mom to cancer, and finds out that London does not really have much else to offer her, she chooses to go to New York. A place that her mother always talked about and brought such joy. She stumbles across a gelato shop and recognizes it from her mother's pictures. Not only is the door familar but the reciepe from the shop as well. Mix a boy and his families desire to keep their shop open and a girl who is trying to heal and get a piece of her mom back and you might just have the most tear jerking story out right now. Josie Silver once again does not disappoint.
If you're in the mood for a romantic, heartwarming story set against the magical backdrop of New York City in winter, "A Winter in New York" by Josie Silver is a must-read. The story follows Iris, who’s running from a painful past, as she stumbles upon a family-run gelateria in Little Italy. What begins as a simple job turns into a journey of healing, love, and self-discovery. The characters are relatable, and the romance feels genuine, with just the right amount of tension and sweetness.
If you’re a fan of romantic stories that also explore themes of family and finding oneself, "A Winter in New York" will not disappoint. It’s a delightful escape into a snowy city filled with love, second chances, and the magic of the holidays.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for the ARC! Josie Silver is an auto read author for me and A Winter in New York is no exception. She has such a way with creating compelling characters you can’t help but root for. Loved this holiday romance!
This was my second Josie SIlver. While I loved One Day in December, this one did not hold up as well for me. I found the premise less engaging and a little far fetched. While the characters were likeable and fleshed out, the story was a little contrived for me. The romance was sweet, but I did not feel that Silver used the holidays or the setting as well as she did in her earlier work. While the book was sweet it just did not hold my interest or make me all that excited to read.
This book was a beautiful Hallmark-esque read! I loved all the food references and always love a setting in New York! The characters and plot were engaging and I couldn’t put this one down!
This is light hearted slow burn romance. The side story of Bobby and Robin is just warning. The adventure on the gelato shop is interesting and the story sweet.
This was a mediocre read. I had read One Day in December and loved the book but this one had too much miscommunication for me. I could never get attached to the story or characters.
Add “A Winter in New York” to your winter, cozy reads stack. A heartfelt and emotional tug, worth the read.
Such a fun read. As always, Josie Silver delivers. My main regret is that I'm not able to taste this gelato.
