Iris moves to New York to escape London and an abusive boyfriend. Her mom spent some of the best times of her life in New York. Iris is still grieving the passing of her mother so she starts over in a place her mother loved. As she is making a new life for herself, she stumbles upon an Italian bakery that seems familiar to her. While piecing together this connection to her mother, she meets the owners and becomes entangled with the whole family. This was really a different Christmas romance and I enjoyed that aspect of it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the ARC of A Winter in New York by Josie Silver.
This was a fun, heartfelt read. Likable characters, with a little holiday-ness to it. And clean romance, something you don’t find much. Iris and Gio come together and form a relationship based on many lies/secrets and the story is saturated in history between their two families to layer on the complexities. Can they overcome this and still find love? I loved the story and the turns that I found a bit unexpected throughout the story. I must say, I don’t read enough of Josie Silver’s books, but when o do they do not disappoint.

What an absolutely perfect way to finish this gem of a book✨
I’m a longtime @josiesilverauthor fan, and was so excited to get an advanced copy of her latest, which came out in sept. But I’m a purest with my holiday and seasonal books, so I was saving this one. And when I decided to do a nyc holiday weekend, well obviously I knew what I would be reading✨
I really really loved this one. Iris recently moved to New York, leaving England and an unhealthy relationship shop and emotionally abusive ex. She’s created a lovely little life - getting additional chef experience as a chef and becoming close with her boss. One day she stumbles upon a gelato shop that makes her do a double take - she recognizes the decor from a photo her late mother took thirtysome years ago and left in a scrapbook. The only thing more surprising is the gelato itself - which takes exactly like the kind Iris’s mother taught her how to make but forbid her from ever sharing the recipe✨
Soon Iris meets Gio who runs the shop, and tells her it’s in danger of closing because the family recipe is lost with his father’s recent health issues✨
It’s an in interesting premise, and the character development really carries it. I got so invested in Iris, Gio (and his family!) and was not totally sure how it was going to pan out. Sometimes when I get invested early it inevitably leads to a disappointing ending - but that was y the case here. And when I tell you a few scenes got me in my feels…✨
Cannot recommend this one enough! So thankful to @netgalley and @randomhouse for this advanced copy✨
Will pst on retail sites, goodreads and my bookstagram @scottonreads

I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
For one thing this book made me really want some gelato. I enjoyed this book but it took forever for me to get into it. It took until about 40-50% of the book for me to get fully invested. I found the beginning boring and a little monotonous. But once I was interested in it then I did really enjoy it.
I absolutely loved One Day in December by this author so I thought that I would love this book as well but it just didn't do it for me in the same way.

I absolutely loved this sweet winter romance! Fans of Silver’s One Day in December will be delighted to pick up her newest read. Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for sharing an advance copy in exchange for my honest feedback!

I keep waiting for a Josie Silver book that I love as much as One Day in December, unfortunately this still wasn’t it.
I would say this one has similar feels throughout - a sense of fate and destiny pulling the characters together.
The dual timeline was interesting. The NYC in winter was fantastic. But I didn’t fully connect with either storyline and that truly could have been a me issue.

This was a super sweet story full of longing, nostalgia, delicious gelato references, epic love stories with flashbacks, family, and loyalty.
It’s ultimately the love story of Gio and Iris, but also the stories of Gio’s family and Iris’ mom Vivien.
I will note that even though it’s being marketed as a Christmas book, only the last 25% or so is set around the holidays; the book starts around early fall and is there for a while. It’s a sweet story but has a sad undertone through most of the tale, so just a heads up if you’re looking for a light Christmas rom-com. If you’re looking for an emotional story that will give you all the feels, then this is perfect!
I enjoyed the members of Gio’s family, and loved Iris’ friend Bobby and his husband. I did think Felipe wasn’t consistent, and there were some other logic gaps.
Overall a really intriguing read that really draws you in!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Romcoms set in NYC are my all time fave. Sprinkle in a little holiday cheer and I am sold! Cuddling up with one of these books helps me create that big city holiday feeling. Visiting NYC at Christmas time has been on the top of my must see list for years, and this book made me want to go even more.
I love Josie Silver, and was so excited when I saw this book announcement. I was even more excited when Netgalley and Random House granted my request for an ARC!!!
A Winter in New York is a heartwarming holiday romcom that will leave you craving a big bowl of vanilla gelato! Josie does such a fabulous job writing characters that are struggling with bigger themes and end up learning and growing along their journey!
This is a MUST read this holiday season! I can’t recommend it enough! Thanks again to Netgalley and Random House!

A sweeping romance that spans decades and generations ttell the story of one woman's search for home and family.

Iris decides she wants to make some changes. One of them being a move to NY. With all her planning and vision on how things should go.. she finds herself alone in The Big Apple. It’s just so big and she can’t find her place. Luckily she has a friend, Bobby and he won’t let her hide in her apartment. He takes her all over the city. He takes her to Little Italy, during the festival and she is mesmerized. She loves it all and is so glad she came. By chance she passes a family run gelato shop. She can’t help wonder if this is the place her mom had a picture of. Her mother has died and she doesn’t know much about her time in NY. Her mother had a special gelato recipe and they enjoyed making and eating it together.
She is so curious about the place, that she goes back the next day and meets Gio. His uncle is in the hospital and no one knows the gelato recipe. It’s the worst time of year for this to happen. Someone how Iris offers to help Gio. They work together to get the right recipe and they do get close. As they spend more time together and Iris lets all of Gio’s family, Iris realizes this family may have known her mother. She has to admit that there are to many coincidences to ignore. Iris spends her days working and helping make gelato. She also spends her time piecing together her mother’s time in NY. She is so overwhelmed with what she learns but it also brings her so much peace. This was a good read. I want to thank Netgalley Josie Silver for my copy of A Winter in NY, for an honest review. It was my pleasure reading and reviewing this one. I am a big fan of the author and can’t wait to read her next book.

After her mother passes and she leaves a toxic relationship, Iris moves to New York from London for a fresh start. By happenstance, she encounters a small gelateria that she recognizes from an old photo of her mom’s. When she wanders inside, she meets the handsome Gio, who shares that the shop is in danger of closing. Only two people at a time can know the gelato recipe and at present that’s his MIA father and his uncle who has suffered a stroke with lingering memory issues. Come to find out, their secret family gelato recipe is also her mom’s secret recipe, given to her by Gio’s uncle during a whirlwind romantic weekend.
Iris doesn’t want to betray her mother or Gio’s uncle so she volunteers her services as a chef to help Gio try to recreate it (aka sneakily lead him to it.) As she spends more time at the gelateria, she grows close with his big Italian family, including his daughter, and starts to regret all her secret keeping.
I really enjoyed the way this took place from before Thanksgiving to New Years to be a true holiday book, and loved the New York references but after discussing it at book club realized just how soap opera-y it was. I was pretty frustrated with Iris for keeping so much hidden from Gio, but I also appreciated that this had more depth than the typical holiday romance!
Thank you to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for the copy!

I mostly loved this. Mostly.
Iris, who has recently lost her mother and escaped a shithole relationship, is a new resident of NYC. Not really into sightseeing or doing much that involves leaving her apartment building, it’s almost a miracle that she stumbles upon Bellotti’s Gelateria. But when she does, she knows instantly that she’s seen the logo on their door before. And when she tastes their gelato, she knows that somehow, her mother had the Bellottis’ secret gelato recipe.
What unfolds next is nothing short of adorable.
The only thing that kept me from giving this story five stars is the unnecessary lying. On one hand, I’m not sure how interesting (or long) the story would have been without it. But…on the other hand, I just don’t like it. Usually, I end up a bit frustrated and searching ahead for the resolution. I’d much rather read about the fallout of telling the truth and how the intended couple works through that than pages of lying and deceit. It makes it difficult for me to really like the character, to get invested in the outcome.
That being said, Josie Silver is - and will probably always be - a must-buy for me. She’s wonderful, her stories are wonderful, and anyone who can craft One Day in December is just, well, wonderful. All the wonderfulness.
This is already on the shelves of your favorite local bookstore, so please please go pick it up, cozy up in front of the fire and enjoy the heck out of it.
Thank you so so so much to Josie Silver, Random House Ballantine, and Netgalley for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of A Winter in New York by Josie Silver.

A lighthearted holiday book that takes place in fabulous New York City. A slow burn love story that warms your heart and makes you crave a delicious bowl of gelato.
New York is the perfect setting for this book. The culture shock of moving from England to New York would make people do uncharacteristic things. Gio and his family make Iris feel so welcome it makes her put off telling the truth about why she is in New York. Iris loved being a part of a family and she didn't want it to end. But because she didn't tell the truth right away she cannot find the right time to reveal her secrets, but they cannot be kept forever. What will happen to Iris's relationship with this wonderful family when her secrets come out?
Josie Silver's writing is superb. She knows just how to weave the perfect story that immediately makes you care about the characters. I felt like I was walking right alongside Iris and Gio as they were exploring the city. I could feel Iris's emotions as she missed her mom and wished that she was with her in this big new adventure. The characters are likable and were a pleasure to get to know.
I hope you enjoy Iris's adventure in the big city as much as I did!
I am extremely grateful to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this wonderful book in exchange for an honest review.

Iris moved to NYC to escape her ex and move on with her life. She’s content to live in the second story apartment above the noodle shop where she works, until she comes across a familiar Gelateria, that leaves her with questions about her mothers past and her connection to the family that owns the Galateria.

This book was the perfect holiday season read! I really loved Iris and how she rebuilt her life and the relationships she developed. I loved her and Gio together and the way they healed each other and gave each other a second chance at happiness. Josie Silver can weave her stories together so well and can really pull out some intense emotions. I cried so hard at parts of this book!

Le sigh. So many feels for me. Iris is the perfect mix delicate and superhero. Gio is a heartbroken stoic Italian.
Their friendship and chemistry was just wonderful. I loved the Christmas in New York background and as an Italian-American I loved the family.
There is one little thing at the end, I would have liked to known how it was said and how they all got there but it doesn’t matter this was a 5 star read for me. The added bonus of the Joni Mitchell references was just perfect for me.

my first holiday read of the season!!
- single dad
- found family
- miscommunication (🥴)
- dual timeline (ish)
- set around the holidays, but not necessarily a christmas/holiday book
- spice: 🌶️🌶️
honestly this book was SO cute and the perfect first-read of december. I love a good, cozy romcom and this fit the bill. the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that I hate the miscommunication trope so much 😭 I found myself anxious most of the book because of it (probably more of a me problem than a book problem lol) but I still absolutely adored the characters and the story as a whole! I saw a lot of myself and my story in Iris, which was really special to read. ✨
as always, make sure you check content warnings before reading!

I really loved the extra chapters we got of the past. They really added to the impact of how meaningful that relationship between the older generation was, even if it was a short relationship. I love the dedication Iris has to help Gio and his family perfect the recipe. I also love Iris’ loyalty to her mom to not reveal the recipe and ruin the family’s trust. I felt heartbroken for Iris at certain parts, but knew she made the right choice everytime

Thank you to NetGalley, Random House-Dell, and Josie Silver for the ARC of this book, which I received in exchange for my honest review.
As a big fan of Josie Silver's previous work, I was really excited to see this new release pop up! The premise is lovely - a London chef moves to NYC while grieving the loss of her mother to cancer, and getting out of a bad relationship. Once in London she stumbles upon a gelato shop and the handsome Gio whose family owns the shop. While I enjoyed this story, and loved the premise, it didn't fully click for me. I enjoyed Silver's previous work much more and found this to be a bit predictable and slow.
Would recommend to fans of Silver's previous work, and big holiday romance fans, but sadly this was a bit of a miss for me.

This was such a sweet story that I enjoyed immensely! It had me craving vanilla gelato and needing to book a flight to New York! 🍨🌆
This is heavier than your typical holiday romance, so keep that in mind. There were plenty of fun and swoony moments, but equally a lot of sadness, which is totally fine! However, I was in the mood for lots of festive holiday cheer when I opened this book and there was minimal festive cheer happening. That being said, the love story and the wonderful and warm cast of characters make up for the lack of holiday cheeriness, so I’m still so happy that I read it! I would just recommend waiting for January or February to enjoy this wintery read if you’re like me and prefer the Christmas cheer to be shoved in your face when reading a holiday romance. 🎄
I adored Iris as our leading lady despite feeling frustrated with some of her decisions. I pictured her as Iris from The Holiday (Kate Winslet) the entire time which honestly fits her character perfectly. She’s from England, mid 30s, and recently escaped a toxic relationship. They’re essentially the same person, lol. Gio was lovely as well! I feel like Josie Silver always writes a top notch swoon worthy book bf with minimal cringe, which is refreshing.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time with this book!
Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this copy in exchange for an honest review.
