I love Josie Silver and if she writes a book set in my fave city of NYC I'm going to read it. I had high expectations for this book and it hurts to say it but I didn't enjoy this one. By the end of the book all I could say I enjoyed was the NYC setting and all the food references. I didn't like the lie that was told and was kept up throughout the whole book. Even though this one wasn't for me I know others will enjoy it. I'm looking forward to seeing what Josie writes next. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A very New York-y RomCom, and full of soft (not too depressing) thoughts on grief! Really enjoyed this

A Winter in New York is an interesting romance set around the holidays. When Iris decides to move to New York, she hadn't realized how big the city is. After going to a street fair in Little Italy, she stumbles across a gelateria that is struggling due to an issue with their family recipe. Iris agrees to help Gio, the owner's nephew, and their romance begins to develop. It was a heartfelt and engrossing read.

Londoner Iris moves to NYC to escape an abusive boyfriend. She meets Gio, a widower whose “father” has been hospitalized and is the only one who knows the secret recipe to their family’s vanilla gelato.
Enter Iris, whose deceased mother passed on a gelato recipe handwritten on a napkin. How are their lives connected? How did Iris’ mother get the secret recipe? As she gets closer to Gio and his big Italian family, how can she confess to all the lies and secrets she’s held on to?
It was fine. There are a few goofy things that happen towards the end that make absolutely ZERO sense but it was fine. Nothing has lived up to Josie Silver’s debut.

[REVIEW: A Winter in New York by Josie Silver]
Thank you to @NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC. Opinions are all my own.
While I consider Josie Silver an auto-buy author for me, the plot line of this one really missed the mark for me.
Semi-spoiler alert: this book’s opening scene and meet cute begins with a lie and let me tell you…the lie gets “kept up” FOR THE WHOLE STORY. I just don’t tolerate dishonesty in my real life so I found myself asking why I would find it acceptable or enjoyable to read about in a fictional novel. I understood the character development and the “reason” for the lie but this element just kind of soured the rest of the reading experience for me.
I will say however…the cozy, classic Josie Silver elements are all there. I was incredibly impressed to find out she wrote this story without ever actually having visited New York. All the sights/sounds/smells of the city streets, gelateria, noodle shop, corner bodega, family meals were all there. I think if you can hold loosely to the plot lines, you can still enjoy this read.
❄️❄️❄️

Cute Christmassy story. Very vanilla though… and I’m not completely convinced the timelines actually add up.
Thank you Net Galley & to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a sweet, low-stakes romance set in New York City between a recent British immigrant named Iris and Gio, the head of his family's gelato shop. I really liked Gio and I thought the author portrayed him in a relatable way. He's not a picture perfect cardboard cutout and I appreciated his flaws. Iris, on the other hand, drove me crazy. Just tell the truth, girl! She just kept lying and concealing things, some that made no sense. The conflict felt too weak, so I didn't love it as much as Silver's other books. Yet, I felt sucked in enough to read straight through a weekend, which makes me give it a solid three stars.

I enjoyed this story. There were times that Iris infuriated me and there were some side storylines that were a little much, but I loved the setting of Christmas in New York and the story of a grieving woman putting herself back together.

I've been a fan of Josie's ever since I read One Day in December and I loved returning to the holiday feel good world she can create within her writing. I loved the overall premise of finding family, which is always a feel good trope during the holiday season. However, lots of avoidable predicaments sprouted within the story and felt over the top at times. This unfortunately led to my eventual choice of three stars in the end. I think if our main character was honest from the beginning and admitted her white lie quickly then we could have just read a cute feel good story, but instead we have to first filter through establishing a relationship built on lies and secrets. This was a quick read and perfect for a holiday book if you're on the hunt for one this winter season!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this novel. This was a great holiday read - different then the usual Christmas novels I read this time of year but I loved the unique story and the ending was perfect. I loved the imagery of new York and the Belotti family Christmas. It definitely got me in the spirit!

Iris is a chef and she moves to NYC for a fresh start after losing her mom. She meets Gio who works at his family's Gelato shop. The shop is at risk of closing if they can't recreate their famous vanilla gelato. Iris finds a picture of her mom at the shop with Gio's uncle many years ago. She also finds the famous gelato recipe. Iris does not want Gio and his family to know who she really is, so instead of giving them the recipe she works hard to help Gio recreate the gelato. Iris falls in love with Gio's entire family, will she fall in love with Gio too?

So this is a rough one for me, first off I did like this book but I also got very frustrated with it also.
The plot and the characters are great. It was the lack of communication that was the issue. I know a lot of these romance/rom-com type of books have this issue and with that some do it well so its not so annoying and others are just tough trying to read. Sadly this was the 2nd one for me but I read through it and still enjoyed the book.
The bigger issue is that the main character was holding a bunch of secrets and was lying, that was a struggle for me also. But if this doesn't bother you or annoy you go for this book.
Lots of chat about Geleto and now I am wanting to try it.
So I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet but i am enjoying adding in a few Christmas vibe books, and can't wait til December when I go all out. lol
I am so glad to have read this book it was an easy read. :)

Sadly, I was left disappointed with this one! I absolutely love Josie Silver and think my hopes were too high. The focus on the ice cream was just slightly too much and too unrealistic. Additionally, the trope of getting in too deep with a lie just didn't fit into this book. The need to keep up the lie was just a ridiculous plot device used to create conflict.

If you're looking for a book to make you crave vanilla gelato and a hot family man to fall in love with A Winter in New York is for you!!
This jumps from past to present, following the story of Iris and her mother. Iris, who is so close with her mom, struggles with the loss of her and finds anyway she can to connect with her mom now that she's gone. When her mothers pictures lead her to a little restaurant, she meets the most handsome man, who is in desperate need of help with his family's gelato recipe, one that Iris may have the key too.
What really stands out in this book is the atmospheric setting—Silver beautifully captures the charm and energy of New York City during the holiday season. You can almost taste the gelato and feel the crisp winter air as you get lost in Iris’s world. The plot, while predictable at times, is comforting in its familiarity and is elevated by the rich descriptions and emotional depth.
Overall, this is the perfect quick read to cuddle up on the couch with while it's freezing outside to get into the holiday mood!

This was a good romance. I enjoyed the Christmas vibes and the holiday cheer. The Author was able to both give us a cozy, romcom style romance with a bit of a vacation. Ask five. I really enjoyed the development of the characters with an attention to the main female character, I found that her story was the one that I loved, reading the most.

I absolutely love a New York setting! It took a me while to get into it but once I did I was hooked!

This holiday romance novel is a cozy, heartwarming tale that perfectly captures the spirit of the season. Set against a backdrop of festive decorations and winter wonder, the story follows two characters who find themselves thrown together in unexpected circumstances. Their initial differences spark tension, but as they navigate holiday traditions and shared experiences, a charming romance begins to bloom.

I really struggled to get into this book. I had to start it probably 3 different times before I finally got into it. Overall I found this to be a fine read, it honk I just had higher expectations based on the description.

im honestly just not a fan of Britt lit and becuase of that I couldn't get into it. however if you are someone that enjoys Britt lit and a slow burn with not a lot going on you may love this one.

I found the setting, the meet-cute, and the family history to be particularly enjoyable aspects of the book. It was an excellent read for the winter months.
