Josie Silver stole my heart with "One Day In December" years ago and she continues to be one of my favorite romance authors.

You would think that life couldn't get more complicated and emotional after loosing your mom and movie across the sea from London to New York, but Iris is in for a doozy when she realizes a few things: 1. The Big Apple is called big for a reason and she risks loosing herself amongst the hubbub of city life - good thing her best friend Bobby is there to keep her anchored. And 2. The super secret gelato recipe her and her mom shared doesn't seem to be as super secret as she once thought. The new hottie and his uncle appear to know it too. So she signs on as chef to help 'replicate' the recipe and keep the shop from going out of business.

This was a sweet and heartstring tweaking story of love, loss, and family ties. Sometimes it might feel that the people we know the best might actually be strangers to us after all, but that isn't really the case.

Iris really grows into her own and finds her place in the new environment she finds herself in. There are challenges, but Silver does an amazing job of creating strong multidimensional characters that feel relatable and real. I will always be willing to read what she publishes.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

I moved from the Midwest to Texas in spring of last year. As much as I disliked driving in snow, I do miss the magical aura of watching it come down outside. Hence, why when I saw this book combined not only a winter in New York but was also written by one of my favorite romance authors, I just knew I had to read it.

Once Iris loses her mom to cancer, and finds out that London does not really have much else to offer her, she chooses to go to New York. A place that her mother always talked about and brought such joy. She stumbles across a gelato shop and recognizes it from her mother's pictures. Not only is the door familar but the reciepe from the shop as well. Mix a boy and his families desire to keep their shop open and a girl who is trying to heal and get a piece of her mom back and you might just have the most tear jerking story out right now. Josie Silver once again does not disappoint.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for the ARC! Josie Silver is an auto read author for me and A Winter in New York is no exception. She has such a way with creating compelling characters you can’t help but root for. Loved this holiday romance!

This was my second Josie SIlver. While I loved One Day in December, this one did not hold up as well for me. I found the premise less engaging and a little far fetched. While the characters were likeable and fleshed out, the story was a little contrived for me. The romance was sweet, but I did not feel that Silver used the holidays or the setting as well as she did in her earlier work. While the book was sweet it just did not hold my interest or make me all that excited to read.

This book was a beautiful Hallmark-esque read! I loved all the food references and always love a setting in New York! The characters and plot were engaging and I couldn’t put this one down!

This is light hearted slow burn romance. The side story of Bobby and Robin is just warning. The adventure on the gelato shop is interesting and the story sweet.

This was a mediocre read. I had read One Day in December and loved the book but this one had too much miscommunication for me. I could never get attached to the story or characters.

Add “A Winter in New York” to your winter, cozy reads stack. A heartfelt and emotional tug, worth the read.

Such a fun read. As always, Josie Silver delivers. My main regret is that I'm not able to taste this gelato.

Gelato and Lies. Not a big fan of this one. I don’t like the hidden identity trope, just not for me.

I truly loved this story for so many reasons. The budding romance between Iris and Gio is a beautiful slow burn, intertwined with the magic of New York's Little Italy and their shared love for gelato. Their relationship feels authentic and heartwarming, developing naturally as they work together to save Gio's family gelateria. I enjoyed how their connection deepens over time, marked by small, meaningful moments rather than grand gestures, making their love story both believable and endearing.

The secret gelato recipe plays a crucial role in the plot, serving as a link between Iris's past and her new life in New York. The mystery behind how Iris's mother came to possess the recipe adds a layer of intrigue, while the process of recreating the gelato symbolizes Iris’s journey of self-discovery and healing. I appreciated how the recipe was more than just a plot device; it represented family, heritage, and the bond between Iris and Gio, adding depth to the story.

Iris's evolution throughout the novel is compelling. Moving to New York to escape her past, she finds herself rediscovering her passion and purpose through unexpected connections and challenges. I liked how her character grows stronger and more confident as she embraces her new life and the people in it, particularly the close-knit community of the gelateria. This journey of personal growth, coupled with the love story and the enchanting backdrop of New York, made the book a delightful read.

I have read a few of Josie's novels before this one and was so excited to get a chance to read this one! I really enjoyed the scenery and characters and it's definitely a comforting cozy read! Thank you!

A Winter in New York follows main character Iris in her move to New York for a fresh start and to find some connection to her late mother. Not only does she find clues around the city that unfold some of her mother's life, but she finds her own corners of the hustling city to make her own. This wintery tale turns the Big Apple into a quaint and cozy place, letting the reader get lost in the story.

I truly loved the small-town feel that was pulled out of the setting. It was done in such a way that New York City still felt vast, but emphasized the routines and habits that you fall into in big city life. The shops you regular at and the streets you pass through every day. There is a great family element to this story, that only made it more and more cozy. I really did enjoy this story and it is perfect for a seasonal read.

I absolutely loved this captivating book! The characters are great, the development of the story is wonderful, and I can’t wait to read more by this author!

I was hoping for the same magic of One Day in December but I did not connect with these characters. It was fun to read a book based in NYC but it felt like the author just had a list of NYC spots she wanted to mention.

✨Book Review✨
A Winter in New York
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
.
This book was a low 4 for me. I did read it in two days and kept wanting to go back, but the main character's decisions drove me nuts. Stop keeping secrets!!!! I wanted to scream at her for most of the book.
.
That being said, it was a super cute love story. I love how much it centered around family and friendship. The gelato plot line was adorable, although I could see some poeple finding it too cheesy. I do think it could have been a lot shorter. Rom coms at 400 pages are just a little too much. Overall, would definitely recommend for a cute romance.
.
I listened to the audiobook and had a very hard time listening to this narrator.

This cozy read is perfect for a winter day or when you're just looking for something cozy and heartwarming. This book celebrates the love and comfort found in chosen families and great friendships through the main characters journey of starting over and grief. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to be swept off their feet by a family business and growing relationship between two passionate chefs.

A deliciously sweet winter romance centered around family and gelato. I did struggle to get through this one at times, as it felt a bit slower paced than the author’s previous book, but it was an enjoyable holiday diversion nonetheless. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for making a copy of this book available for my review.

DNF. The book was kind of slow, though I appreciated the dual perspective between mother and daughter.

Really enjoyed this sweet love story. It wasn’t super holiday focused so if you aren’t looking for a Christmas romance necessarily, don’t be afraid to pick this one up! I loved the main characters. The author does an amazing job of making them feel real
