* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.

Josie Silver’s books always sound better than they are to me. This one felt like it took forever to read, and for being close to 40 years old, the main character is too immature. She’s basing her entire relationship with Gio on a lie, and doesn’t say anything until almost the very end.

Not for me so I won’t recommend. If you’re a huge fan of Josie Silver then you may really enjoy this!

A Winter in New York is like getting a hug from your favorite blanket. Josie Silver wrote what may very well be her best work to date in this delightfully heartwarming story about finding love while ultimately finding yourself. She blends past and present flawlessly as Iris Raven lands in NYC with the desire to visit the places her free-spirited mother frequented before they settled in England. Iris struggles to hold onto the memories her mother shared with her before her untimely death while trying to figure out just where her own life is headed. Then with the help of a bit of kismet, the appearance of an unusual door on Mulberry Street in Little Italy, begins a journey Iris never could have imagined but it's exactly what she needed and one might say ultimately hoped for.

I am in deep love with this book. I fell hard and fast for Iris and the way she seems to charm everyone she comes into contact with. Despite the fact that she can't seem to always feel the very best about herself, Iris still manages to bring out the best in people even as her own life is seemingly stagnant. As she starts to uncover more of the mystery that was her mother Vivian, with the help of a long-lost gelato recipe and the surprises that keep coming at Iris once she enters that door on Mulberry Street, her life takes a sharp turn that may just change her life forever.

What a journey. With well-placed glimpses of the past in the 1980's from Vivian's POV, we get a taste of what her life as a hopeful rock star was all about and how she allowed a chance at true love to slip through her fingers. Now that Iris has befriended the Belotti family, whose business is behind that unusual door, coincidences abound as she tries her hardest to help Gio Belotti and his tight-knit crew to rediscover the recipe for their beloved gelato.

Although it may be a race against time in more ways than one, the burgeoning romance between Iris and Gio as they work tirelessly side by side made me swoon as their playful banter leads to slow and deep kisses and the wild thoughts that they were clearly meant to meet. But it's a cluster of epic proportions as Iris is torn between allowing truths to become known with protecting Gio and his family from any fallout from what they will undoubtedly uncover.

But let me say this: even though there are plenty of issues surrounding Iris, her past, her mother's choices, her love for Gio and how the entire Belotti family has embraced her, letting her know what it is to have a real family for once in her lonely life, Silver allows everything to happen exactly as it should. I knew that proverbial shoe would drop at some point and I honestly couldn't believe Iris could hold onto her truths for as long as she did. The reactions are heartfelt and had me choking up for most of the last few chapters. It's that chance for love and the spirit in which Iris finally sets her course in the right direction as a true super hero that gave me all the feels and more.

I know I've rambled on but know that I could honestly write 5 more pages on how much I adored this book. All the secondary characters like Bobby, Sophia and even Smirnoff, give this book a richness with their strong personalities and their fierce love of Iris. The entire Belotti family is a dream come true for our girl and with the way the book ends, I was over the moon that this lost soul was finally found. Iris's life may haven't always been easy but she will continue to be her own person as well one adored by so many.

As extraordinary as it is effortless, A Winter in New York is a must-read for anyone who wants to smile through happy tears. This book tugs at the heart in the very best way and I happily give it a huge 5+++ stars!

I love this author's books! In this story, Iris escapes to New York and finds so much more than she ever could've hoped to find. I felt so many emotions because of the lies that Iris got caught up in. I completely understood how she got in that predicament. There was no good way out without hurting someone. I loved the Belotti family and how Iris became so close to them. This was a fun holiday read but also pulled out some angst at the end which gave in a little more tension. The author did a fabulous job of weaving this story and making me fall in love with these characters.

This is the book I have been waiting for from Josie Silver since One Day in December - the cozy, romantic, winter in NYC (my city and the best city on Earth...objectively, of course). Gio and Iris love story felt like fate and I loved getting to know their characters and seeing everything unfold. This will definitely be a buzzy book come the holiday season.

4.5 stars

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House/Delacorte. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Beautiful story! I loved this. I really enjoy this author's work and this might be my favorite of hers so far. I liked the way she wove Viv's story with Iris's and all the little peeks into how Iris and Gio could have met as children. You really feel for Iris and what her loyalty to her mother might cost her. Gio was a fantastic character - and my favorite - and all of his family members felt like people you already know. I really liked the relationship between Iris and Bobby, too, and the "found family" aspect of it. Can't recommend this highly enough.

If I had to describe A Winter in New York in two words, I would choose enjoyable and cozy. Like always, Silver did a wonderful job of creating realistic and flawed characters. I liked how she described and showed Iris's grief and PTSD. I also liked that Iris and Gio's relationship gradually grew throughout the story. My favorite aspects of the story were the setting and secondary characters. Gio's family brought a fun and comedic layer to the story. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending. It felt super rushed and the "drama" between Gio and Iris felt brushed under the rug. Overall, this was another fantastic read by Josie Silver. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC.

I love Josie Silver's books!! Iris escapes to New York and finds so much more than she ever could've hoped to find. I felt so much turmoil, because of the lies that Iris got caught up in. I completely understood how she got in that predicament. There was no good way out without hurting someone. I loved the Belotti family and how Iris became a part of their family. The angst at the end was exactly what I always want when I read a book in this genre. The author did a fabulous job of weaving this story and making me fall in love with these characters.

This was a wonderfully emotional rollercoaster of a book. I loved the writing and storytelling and all the characters (even though I’m not a fan of flashbacks).

Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley.

Winter in New York is a lovely story of a young woman learning who she is and where she wants to be in life, while also falling in love with the son of a gelato maker. Before she was born, Iris's mother had a fiery fling with Santo, a gelato maker who gave her his family secret - his gelato recipe. Flash forward 40ish years, and Santo has just had a stroke, forgetting the famous recipe. Iris stumbles upon the shop and the secret by accident - she had no idea her mother's secret recipe was really Santo's secret recipe - so she decides to help them.

Very interesting. Bit of an emotional rollercoaster through the last few chapters, what with Adam and Iris making some spectacularly stupid decisions.

If you weren't a fan of vanilla gelato before this book, you will 100% be craving it by the time you finish reading! Such a cute and refreshing holiday read in the one of the best cities on earth during the holidays, New York City. All of the characters are likable, except for the obviously evil ones, and the writing transports you to NYC, eating gelato at Belotti's in no time. I adored this one.

This novel was so warm and wrapped so many emotions into the story that I truly felt transformed in a matter of hours.
I was so thrilled to find out that this was somewhat of a dual-timeline, where we got to see Iris and her mother’s story collide. The trope of having a parallel to a family member within a story is very popular and I loved how Silver executed this.
The characters are all so lovable and absolutely deep. There were so many layers to Iris that the reader continued to peel back well into the book. Iris was also the perfect narrator, keeping bits and pieces of herself for the reader to discover along the way.

I absolutely adored this sweet story, and I’m putting it down having felt so many rollercoaster rushes of emotions from grief, romantic love, parental protectiveness, and strength of a family unit. This is a perfect winter read!

5 gelato stars

Oh my, Josie Silver knocked my socks off with this one!

Iris is a young woman on her own in New York, fleeing her life in London and hoping to make a fresh start. She finds work as the chef at a noodle shop and becomes fast friends with the owner. One day, they visit a food festival and happen upon a gelateria, closed temporarily. This gelateria is famous for its secret recipe for vanilla gelato.

Iris finally realizes that she recognizes the door from her mother’s scrapbook. She discovers another surprise in the scrapbook and returns to the gelateria the next day. She meets Gio, a handsome family member of the gelateria business. The family is distraught because no one has the secret recipe, as a family member has fallen ill. The existence of the business hangs in the balance.

Iris is faced with a dilemma as she spends more and more time with the family and falls hard for Gio. She hasn’t been honest with them and fears she will have to leave town again.

I loved the characters in this one. I loved watching Iris blossom in New York with good friends who helped her overcome her struggles from London. And the whole Bellotti family is amazing.

This one made me crave vanilla gelato or really any gelato! And I broke out the tissues. Nothing wrong with either of those!

I loved Josie Silvers book, “One Night on the Island”, so I was super excited for A Winter in New York! Definitely read this one! Gio and Iris are everything!

A Winter in New York is quite possibly my favorite of Josie Silver’s books. It has all the warmth, love, and growth I’ve come to expect from her books while also completing enthralling me into the story. Gio and Iris will live in my heart forever.

A Winter In New York is such a cute heartfelt book. It is so easy to fall in love with the Iris and Gio from the very beginning. The Belotti family is the picture perfect Italian family that every person longs to be apart of. Watching Iris grow throughout the story is beautiful.

A Winter in New York (not to be confused with a Christmas in New York because that’s what I was expecting) by Josie Silver follows Iris who has escaped her life and moved to New York to start new. She tries to relive her mother’s memories by visiting places that meant a lot to her and ends up finding a gelato store that has a lot of significance to Iris’ mother and Iris finds out that she actually holds the secret to the shop’s future in a recipe that has been forgotten. Iris also meets Gio, the charming man working in the shop that she has a bit of history with. Will this be Iris’ happy story or will something else happen?

This book was not what I expected and not on a good way. I did not enjoy my time reading this and almost dnfed it at several points but a lot of early reviews said the last chunk was amazing. It was not. Iris is very irritating as a main character to follow because she is so wishy washy. She also starts the story with a few different lies that caused a lot of unnecessary drama. There is a weird scene involving a talent show that I could take seriously and Iris also has a man in her past that is little more than a mustache twirling villain. There were too many characters on Gio’s family and none of them really felt fleshed out so they were confusing to read about.

The one thing I did enjoy is there are a few flashbacks to Iris’ mother in the eighties and those were actually fun to read. But there were only a couple throughout the whole book so it was weird that they were even there at all.

Super bummed I didn’t like this book. This is the fourth book by this author I have attempted and I only liked the first one I read so I think this is where we part ways.

One Night on the Island was one of my favorite books last year, so I was VERY excited to see a new book from Josie Silver. And it did not disappoint.

It’s official - Gio is my new book boyfriend. Normally, I’d give this book 4-4.5 stars, but I’m rounding up to 5 just because I’m obsessed with Gio. A widowed father who helps run the family Gelateria, he’s handsome, loyal, and fiercely devoted to those he loves. And he throws a mean punch to defend his woman (I wouldn’t be into that in real life, but in books…YES PLEASE).

Anyway, if you couldn’t already tell, I was very into his character, but I liked Iris too. She’s been through some tough times and I loved following her journey to find love and family. I thought the progression of their relationship was realistic and so sweet. My only complaint was that I didn’t think her lie about her “husband” was that big of a deal. I feel like that was explainable and that Gio wouldn’t have held it against her, so I wish that had been cleared up earlier.

I loved that all of the secondary characters are amazing too. I wish Bobby, Sophia, and the entire Belotti family were real and could be my friends/family.

If you enjoy Emily Henry, Carley Fortune, Annabel Monaghan, etc., I would highly recommend this one. It’s the perfect cozy, winter/holiday read.
