I received this ARC from Net Galley and the opinions are mine all mine.

Josie Silver writes a delightful rom-com of a book. This one is no exception. I breezed through it, I found the characters delightful, and just enjoyed it overall.

Josie Silver tugs at my heartstrings with “A Winter in New York” and I am here for all of it. If this book was one of those Holiday movies that pop up on Netflix, I would make it into my regular rotation. It has all the hallmarks of a heartfelt, feel good story: love, family, drama and the courage to overcome trauma. I truly loved this book.

The chemistry between Gio and Iris is electric from the first scene. I love the buildup and the fact that, while we the reader KNOW something is coming, it didn’t feel super obvious in the prose. There was buildup in the connection that didn’t have to be verbalized constantly; it just happened naturally on the page until as the reader, I squealed with happiness when all the pieces came together.

The supporting cast is superb. I adored the love and chaos that is the Belotti family, one that’s loud and boisterous and supportive. In the scheme of this story and Iris and Gio’s background, it was perfect. The gelateria was a warm, comforting backdrop for the family and I felt it was the perfect atmosphere for love to develop. I also enjoyed the flashbacks that explained Santo and Vivien’s history, and how it shaped Gio and Iris’s story. Bobby and Robin are the friends that everyone wishes they had…I would take them as best friends any day of the week!

There are things between Gio and Iris that I don’t love, but by the end I understood them more based on their lived experieces and the explanatons given…life is messy and hard, especially when trauma is involved. Both Gio and Iris have to overcome their own internal obstacles, and I felt their struggles and at times, shed a tear with them as they found their way out of them.

For me, a good book is one that I read before I fall asleep and one I want to pick up the second I wake up, and “A Winter in New York” fit that bill. It’s sure there will be some who think it’s a bit cheesy, but that’s what I think made me love it so. If you want something that will leave you with that warm and fuzzy feeling, this book is for you.

** A big thank you to NetGalley and Random House-Ballantine for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this one and appreciate the opportunity!!**

A Winter in New York by Josie Silver is a fun, Hallmark-like holiday novel set in New York. The romance and mystery— all combine in a satisfying plot. I did find the novel a bit hard to get into and the characters were hard to connect with. Overall, it was a fun holiday read. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I loved the relationship between Iris and Gio. After losing her mom and escaping an abusive relationship Iris moves to New York City from England. There she is able to experience New York City life in her mother's footsteps she was a struggling young musician. It has a dual timeline set mostly in present-day New York City with Gio and Iris and with flashbacks of her mom Vivian and Santo Belotti. When her friend Bobby takes her to an Italian festival she discovers a storefront that may have been in one of her mom's photos of a handsome man, a secret gelato recipe, the one her mom felt was the love of her life. Wanting to explore more she enters Belotti's Gelateria, where she meets Gio. Discovering that Santo, the one that knows the recipe has had a stroke and doesn't remember the recipe. Iris also knows the recipe, having shared many a gelato with her mom, using that secret recipe. She wants to help them, but she doesn't want to let anyone else know that the top secret gelato recipe was shared with someone outside of the family. So Iris goes to work with Gio to help him recreate the recipe without actually telling him she knows the recipe. I loved the whole Belotti family and how warm and fun they were, a contrast to Iris's upbringing by a single mother. Unfortunately, as Iris and Gio grow closer she struggles with the secret she's been keeping about the gelato recipe as well as her mother's relationship to the Belotti family. I loved Gio and Iris's relationship and slow burn romance, as well as found family.

A very light hearted holiday read. Iris and Gio are so precious and this book gave me all the warm and fuzzy vibes. It was a slow burn but it was very well done.

I loved One Day in December so I was very excited when I saw that Josie Silver was coming out with a new book. I really enjoyed the story, and as someone who has lived in New York for ten years I appreciated how the city was portrayed. It seemed real and not overdone, which I feel like can sometimes happen with books set in New York. There were times that I would be so frustrated because I felt like a character wasn't doing the obvious thing but then a few pages later they'd do it, or acknowledge why they weren't doing it. The book didn't knock my socks off or anything, and I wasn't entirely sure if the drama with the ex was needed, but I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others. Thank you to NetGalley and Dell for this ARC!

SUPER CUTE!!! I loved the romance, and I am in NYC so it felt so real and cozy. The story was really lovely and easy to follow. One of my favorite romances this year.

I have loved all of Josie Silver’s books. I love her writing style, and they have all be incredibly different from one another. A Winter in New York was no exception. Silver’s books are always more than romance, and this one is about a lost, grieving woman who is struggling to come to terms with her past and find her place in the world. I fell in love with the Belotti family along with Iris and with Gio most of all. Parts of it were very suspenseful, which I sometimes struggle with, but which Silver is very good at writing. I couldn’t put it down. Definitely recommend! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-arc.

This was my first time reading a book by this author, and I’m so glad I did!

Iris’ story was so frustrating, yet perfect at the same time. I had to keep reading, because I needed to know how the story would end. It was a typical love story, but I still ate it up and would recommend it to my friends.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and author for the advanced read copy!

Moving to New York to escape an abusive ex, Iris is charmed by a family-owned gelato shop in Little Italy that her mom visited decades ago and was given the secret recipe. When Gio, the handsome owner, admits to Iris that his uncle forgot the secret family recipe after a stroke, Iris doesn't have it in her to admit that she has the key. Not wanting to cause family drama, Iris agrees to help recreate the recipe, but secrets from the past threaten to ruin her new love.

A Winter in New York is a cute little love story that reminds you that honest communication would prevent a whole lot of unnecessary drama. The miscommunication trope among fully-grown adults never sits well with me and I was disappointed Silver didn't add a more nuanced message like she did in The Two Lives of Lydia Bird and One Day in December. Other than that, A Winter in New York was a pleasant romance with a little steam and mostly adorable characters that worked well as a quick light read.

This was a cute read with an interesting premise. I enjoyed reading it, but it wasn't super memorable or groundbreaking. I appreciated Iris and Gio's family histories, but the secrets continually kept became very irritating and unbelievable. It was hard to believe their relationship would ever work when it was based on lies. While I didn't love the tropes, I found it to be well-written which makes this between 3 and 4 stars for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

This was such a sweet and cozy read! It takes place in New York, but surprisingly enough, most of it is not in Winter. I don’t care though because ay NYC set book has me!

Iris set out to make a fresh start on life, and is led, through memories of her mother, to Gio and his gelateria.

This heartwarming novel book is about love, grief, family and loyalty. It legitimately made my cry multiple times! Mostly happy tears.

The story revolves around Iris and Gio, both coming from different backgrounds and dealing with their own dysfunctional family issues.

Iris decides to start fresh by leaving behind her job as a chef embarking on a journey to New York to explore the city in her mother's footsteps. There, she unexpectedly stumbles upon a familiar storefront that she may have seen in one of her mother's photographs. The photo features a handsome man and a gelato recipe, which her mother may have kept a secret for years.

Despite her commitment to keeping her mother's secret, Iris finds herself unable to resist returning to the gelateria to meet the charming man named Gio. she witnesses Gio's struggles to keep their store open, trying out various recipes. Iris ends up helping him create the best recipe, honoring their family tradition. Her guilt intensifies as her feelings for him grow stronger. Will she have the courage to confess and embrace a second chance? What if Gio can't forgive her for keeping secrets for so long?

This book is everything you need for a swoon-worthy holiday romance. I genuinely recommend it to you. Let the warm feelings capture you as you delve into this beautiful love story.

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group--Ballantine and Netgalley for an ARC of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I thought I knew exactly what to expect when going into A WINTER IN NEW YORK, Josie Silver's newest novel: a story of personal growth for the heroine, both poignant and funny moments, and, of course, a romance. But A WINTER IN NEW YORK is so, so much more.

With only a battered suitcase and her beloved gelato machine, Iris has moved to New York from London after her mother's passing in the hopes of walking in her footsteps and experiencing the same places her mother did. After being dragged to a street festival with her boss/best friend, Iris gets a sense of deja vu when they shelter from a sudden rainstorm in front of a famous gelateria, the same one featured in the only photograph Iris's mother had of the love of her life. Iris later goes back and finds herself running into a familiar face and feels the need to help the gelateria's owners replicate their famous gelato recipe that only two people in the family know at a time.

I found myself devouring this book, reluctant to leave Iris and Gio, the Belotti family, and Bobby and Robin. I loved the dynamic between Iris and Gio--the banter! the dates! Gio leaning against things and admiring Iris!--and how the Belottis fully embraced Iris as she tried to balance her secrets with truths in order to protect the family. The found family aspect of the novel was beautiful and to see how Iris navigated grief, heartache, and fear had me absolutely engrossed from page one. While those who hate lack of communication will definitely be ripping their hair out, I empathized with the gut-wrenching decisions Iris had to make for the sake of the Belottis.

A WINTER IN NEW YORK lives up to the promise of a Josie Silver book and completely surpasses all expectations.

TW: Domestic abuse/harassment, death of a parent, death of spouse

Could the Belotti family please adopt me? Or Bobby and Robin? The characters in this book are just a gift! This might be my favorite Josie Silver novel yet! Loved it all from start to finish. Loved the love story and would pay good money for a taste of that vanilla gelato. I was cheering for Iris and a big fan of hers... a strong character who just needed to find herself. Smart, funny and broken... as many of the best people are!

This book was everything it took for me to fall in love with New York. While I have never been to the city, this set a picture perfect painting. Iris was a lovable character that I saw a lot of myself in. I truly loved the secretive aspect of the book, it truly made the plot better. and GIO! What an amazing love interest. I really did not enjoy how long that Iris kept her secret, but her and Gio more than made up for it.

I would read this book again, but definitely in the winter time!

Iris decides to move to New York to restart her life. This was where her mom loved and played in a band and Iris missed her. One day she comes across a gelateria that is the same as one in her moms old pictures. Turns out that Iris’s family gelato recipe is the same as the one in the restaurant and the current owners nephew needs help recreating the recipe. His uncle is in a coma and they can’t find where the recipe is and the business won’t survive without it. Why does Iris’s mom have the recipe? What does Iris not know about her mom and this small New York restaurant?
This was a cute read, I’m going to be honest and thought it would be more of a holiday read and it wasn’t. Nothing new or groundbreaking but a sweet book. 3 ⭐️ thank you NetGalley and Delacorte Press for an arc copy.

This was a good Christmas-y read, with a good set of characters. There's romance (with a very disastrous first meet), found-family, old secrets / understanding the past, and a plotline of healing from domestic abuse.

TWs - severe domestic abuse followed by stalking, death of a parent

Thanks so much for the review copy. I loved New York in winter with Iris. I’m also craving some gelato now. I really enjoyed this love story and the strength Iris found to be herself.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read and review. All of these thoughts are my own.

This book releases October 3rd, 2023

This novel is set around Christmas time in New York. It follows a woman named Iris who moved there to start over after leaving an abusive relationship and the loss of her mother. Iris runs into a man while shopping for a book and they both grab at a book at the same time. Iris then has a conversation with him and brings up the “death” of her husband which is a lie. 7ish months later she runs into him again at his food shop. They start falling for each other while Iris also starts discovering a deeper connection with his family. Will these secrets make them stronger or tear them apart?

Although I enjoyed this read for the most part because it shows a great representation of handing grief and also showing you it’s okay to start over when life has gotten rough, there were a few things I didn’t like. First, I didn’t like that the whole relationship started on a lie. They were in their 30’s. It’s immature not to tell the truth. It just really bothered me. Also, I don’t really like the miscommunication trope. Literally just talk it out. You’re full grown adults. Third, I didn’t like the back and forth stuff with Iris. One minute shes for it and then the next she’s pushing away. You’re a full grown woman, make up your mind. Iris just seemed very immature-like in this book and it kind of threw me off. The writing was a bit amature for my liking. They were set as adults in their 30’s but I felt like I was reading about teens/20 year olds with the way they spoke sometimes.

Again, I did like the book and I do think others will enjoy it as well, there was just a few things in my personal preference that I didn’t like. I think it’s a cute read and will be a big hit for the romance lovers.

3 stars!
