This gives me Adult, Love and Gelato vibes. So, if you grew up loving that story this will be the perfect book for you! It is such a cute story about loss, love, and gelato in New York. I enjoyed this book so much. Thank you Net Galley and Josie Silver for letting me read this amazing book!
Sadly, this book was a DNF for me. I’m a fan of Josie Silver’s writing and have really enjoyed her previous novels, but I really had a difficult time connecting to these characters and storyline. I found Iris to be unlikable and I could just not stand her constant need to lie and the miscommunication in this book which ultimately led me to stop reading. I look forward to future releases from Josie and hope others are able to enjoy this novel despite it not being a good fit for me.
Iris moves to NY to restart her life after her mom dies but when she stumbles upon a local bakery that one action affects her life like she wouldn't believe. She offers to help out but in doing so that could change her life. She finds out things about her mother and herself that not only changes her life but the lives of those she just met. This was a cute wintertime romance that gave me the cozy vibes.
Another Josie Silver winner! I love this light hearted rom-com about 2 adults (mid 30s to 40 years old) that happen to meet and fall in love in New York. Iris is a loveable slightly nervous, but also brave and confident British female who makes her way to be a chef at a noodle shop in NYC after escaping an abusive boyfriend in England. She follows in her moms footsteps and through some miscommunications, secrets and instant chemistry, she discovers an ice cream shop and a hottie who runs it. The banter was good, the chemistry was there.
Sometimes it was a little ridiculous (sleeping in a storage unit to avoid confrontation), but overall I really enjoyed it. Loved that the characters were a little older.
I *love* Josie Silver, and she built a really beautiful world with rich, lovable characters in this book. If you feel a "but" coming, you're right -- I had major beef with how the FMC dealt with a massive lie (two massive lies, really, but one upset me more than the other) that she told to the MMC early on in the book about her husband being dead. Turns out the MMC's wife actually *had* died, and I couldn't get past how the FMC didn't seem to feel that guilty about it throughout the book.
That said, Josie Silver is great at writing romances that emotionally wreck the reader, and this book packs a punch. Plus, Gio is such a likable love interest, and his family is one that anyone would want to be a part of. Plus, I craved gelato pretty much the entire time I read this book.
Everything I love about Josie is in this book! Heart wrenching, love, laughs! I was expecting more Christmas, but that is okay. I thought it was the perfect winter read.
Ahhhh, I LOVED THIS BOOK. THE TITLE is EVERYTHING TO ME. I absolutely enjoyed it. One of my wishes is to visit New York & spend a winter there. Thank you so much for this ARC. I def. Enjoyed it!
Being one quarter Italian, I knew I needed to read this book. I also have had cannoli in Little Italy and so the setting completely appealed to me. It was glorious.
I also love books with family secrets. Why I don't know because if mine did I would flip the crap out. But this book's two voice timeline truly made the reader understand characters and I was able to see both the past and the present and why people where how they were.
It's a three because occasionally, it got repetitive and angsty. For the female lead who had fled an abusive relationship, and yes coming to terms with a parent's death....she did have a lot going on but sometimes the "turmoil" of "do I divulge the secret" was high school.
Still I want gelato now. Foodie fans, music fans, Italy lovers....all will enjoy this book!
In true Josie Silver fashion, I give you a fiction novel of the purest heart ❤️. 3.5 stars rounded up due to an ending that game me all the feels! If you’re a Silver fan, like myself, you can’t miss this one!
Things I loved about this book:
❤️ Realistic back stories
❤️ Relatable characters
❤️ The sweetest revenge
❤️ The ENDING
Things I could have gone without:
👎 The slow middle
👎 The cringe-worthy negativity of the main character, at times….
👎 The ending, although great, felt rushed
Overall, Silver delivered a perfect cozy ready and I’m glad I stepped into her universe for a bit!
The only thing this book was lacking was a vanilla gelato recipe at the end! This book was so beautiful and heartwarming- about love, loss, second chances, and family. Iris moves to NY to escape an abusive ex and retrace her late mother's footsteps. Through a couple wonderful months, we watch as Iris grows and finds a new place to belong.
A cute & cozy winter read.
Iris, seeking a fresh start in New York, lands a chef job at a noodle shop, forming connections with Bobby, Robin, and a cat named Smirnoff. A chance encounter with a family-run Gelato shop in Little Italy leads her to discover a secret recipe in her mother's scrapbook. To help the shop, she offers to recreate the recipe without revealing she already has it. As Iris and Gio, the shop owner, grow closer, past misunderstandings threaten their budding romance. Amidst family, grief, and hope, their story unfolds with delightful banter and chemistry.
Iris’ internal thoughts or rationale were a bit much. Parts of it I could understand but also, it was a lotttt. Overall I loved this book and can’t wait to see what Josie Silver writes next! Special thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for providing a free eARC #AWinterinNewYork #JosieSilver
This is 3.5 stars rounded up.
Iris has been through so much. She’s lost her mother, just left an ex-boyfriend in London and is trying to start over in New York. While trying to get through the hardships during the holiday season Iris’ luck turns a little bit when she meets Gio and the rest of the Belotti Family who owns a gelato shop. However, with the inability to tell the truth Iris finds herself in a tangled web of lies.
This book was heartfelt and you genuinely find yourself rooting for Gio and Iris, and for Iris to turn things around in life.
Thanks you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine/Dell for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.
This, so far, is my least favorite read by this author (I’ve loved the others I’ve read). The story itself is good, the timeline is easy to follow, I felt immersed in their universe and story, but parts of it just dragged on and were so repetitive (primarily the FMC). Yes we get it, this was how you grew up, this is your situation now (being vague to avoid spoilers). It felt like every few pages was her complaining about her situation. The writing, besides the repetitiveness and being slow for some parts, was well done though. I was invested enough to continue the story since I wanted to see where it ends up but I did some of it grudgingly. Giving this one 3 stars-thanks to the setting plot and supporting characters.
A WINTER IN NEW YORK review
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5
❄️Trying to get caught up on my wintery book reviews! I was so excited to read this one! I wasn’t a huge fan of One Day in December but the synopsis of this one intrigued me. I enjoyed this one and the vibes were immaculate. 👏
❄️Here’s a summary of the plot:👇
Iris decides to move to NYC and create a new life for herself after a horrible breakup. She’s brought along her mother’s prize gelato recipe and has been sworn to never share the recipe with anyone else. While at a food market, she finds a local family owned gelato shop that seems to use the exact same recipe. She strikes up a friendship with one of the employees at the gelato shop, and the secrets from Iris’s past life start to come to the surface.
❄️I liked the alternating timelines in this story and honestly wish there were more flashbacks throughout the book. I felt like the ending was a biiiit cheesy, but I enjoyed it overall! The Christmas in NYC vibes are unmatched in this one. 👏 While it does take place around the holidays, it’s not overly Christmas-y so you could read it any time in the winter! Overall, I’d recommend this one if you want a sweet romance book set in NYC. This is only my second book by this author but I definitely plan to check out the other books on her backlist!
SO i put off reading this book because im not one for romcoms, but man was i wrong. Iris as a character was like any other woman when she has been hurt so many times and all you can do is lie to protect yourself because you think it will protect you. What i want is this as a movie so i can see Gio in real life and see if he matches what is in my head. When the fight came i knew it was coming but right there at the end, made me wait for it. I would have loved for Iris to hit Adam but im just glad someone did. Loved the book, it made me cheer on the characters, made me sad and cry in the right places and made me happy in the rest. Would read another book by her again. The ending could have been a bit better but I love it none the less.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group, and the author for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest feedback!
I loved this winter romance from Josie Silver! There are a lot of holiday books out there and I personally love the stories that happen over a longer period of time - the story seems more plausible and you don't feel pressured to read it only during the month of December.
Recent New York transplant Iris is finally getting her fresh start. She is still grieving her mother's passing, and she wants to feel closer to her, so she moves to one of her mom's favorite places, The Big Apple. Iris found a journal in her mother's possessions filled with her adventures in NY, including a whirlwind romance with a man who owns a gelateria in the city. This man was so in love with Iris's mother that he even gives her their family's secret gelato recipe. Iris pours over every story and photo included in the diary, and one day while out exploring, she stumbles across a family-run gelateria. Could it actually be the same one from her mother's past?
Upon further investigation, Iris learns that the gelateria she found and the one documented in the journal are one in the same. The first time she enters the store, she meets the handsome Gio who is currently running the store with his sister. They tell her that the owner, their uncle, is currently comatose and he is the only person in their family with the secret recipe. The store is quickly falling into danger without the sales from their famous gelato. Iris happens to be a chef and offers to help the store figure out the recipe. Even though she has the exact recipe written down in a journal just a subway's ride away, Iris is anxious to give it to these strangers.
As weeks turn into months, Iris gets closer to Gio and the rest of his family. She is constantly thinking about the recipe and as time goes on, she gets herself in more and more trouble. She falls for Gio and doesn't want to lose him - but she also doesn't want their family to lose the store either. As they spend more time with each other that winter, Iris learns more about her mom's time in New York and her connection with this family.
When Gio's uncle wakes up from the coma, everything is going to come to light. Can Iris share all of her secrets and keep Gio at the end of it?
Although I really loved this story and the characters, the secrets between the characters drove me a little crazy. Miscommunication is my absolute least favorite trope, so it was really hard for me to get past the fact that all of the tension was completely avoidable if she had just told the truth in the beginning. Thankfully there were other smaller story lines going on besides the secret family recipe deception. I think it's really important to show healthy relationships in books and movies and media and this one just wasn't it for me.
Miscommunication tropes are the hardest for me to read, so this just didn’t land for me. I loved the cover and the idea of the book, but really need characters to say what they need to say!
I love Josie Silver and how she ties in various timeline elements to her stories. However this one didnt do it for me
This was a sweet book to read. I've loved everything else I've read from Josie Silver and enjoyed this book. My only complaint is that the ending seemed a little rushed and I felt like there were a couple of holes left in the plot when everything was wrapped up.
I enjoyed Josie Silver's last book so was excited to give her another shot! A Winter in New York ended up being a love letter to both New York and gelato, though it was heavy for a book with such a cute cover. Some parts were a little cheesy and predictable, but I really loved the side characters (especially Bobby and Robin!) and the descriptions of the city in December. I also thought that Iris's struggle with grief and loss was shown in a truly genuine, realistic way, and I loved the way Gio's family fully embraced her. I was looking for a lighter holiday read and this was it, but it had a few heavier topics sprinkled in to ground it a bit. Can't wait to see what the author does next! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. Now I need to go find some vanilla gelato to satisfy my craving!
