Iris has been through so much. She’s lost her mother, just left an ex-boyfriend in London and is trying to start over in New York. While trying to get through the hardships during the holiday season Iris’ luck turns a little bit when she meets Gio and the rest of the Belotti Family who owns a gelato shop. However, with the inability to tell the truth Iris finds herself in a tangled web of lies.

This book was heartfelt and you genuinely find yourself rooting for Gio and Iris, and for Iris to turn things around in life.

Thanks you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine/Dell for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

This, so far, is my least favorite read by this author (I’ve loved the others I’ve read). The story itself is good, the timeline is easy to follow, I felt immersed in their universe and story, but parts of it just dragged on and were so repetitive (primarily the FMC). Yes we get it, this was how you grew up, this is your situation now (being vague to avoid spoilers). It felt like every few pages was her complaining about her situation. The writing, besides the repetitiveness and being slow for some parts, was well done though. I was invested enough to continue the story since I wanted to see where it ends up but I did some of it grudgingly. Giving this one 3 stars-thanks to the setting plot and supporting characters.

A WINTER IN NEW YORK review

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5

❄️Trying to get caught up on my wintery book reviews! I was so excited to read this one! I wasn’t a huge fan of One Day in December but the synopsis of this one intrigued me. I enjoyed this one and the vibes were immaculate. 👏

❄️Here’s a summary of the plot:👇
Iris decides to move to NYC and create a new life for herself after a horrible breakup. She’s brought along her mother’s prize gelato recipe and has been sworn to never share the recipe with anyone else. While at a food market, she finds a local family owned gelato shop that seems to use the exact same recipe. She strikes up a friendship with one of the employees at the gelato shop, and the secrets from Iris’s past life start to come to the surface.

❄️I liked the alternating timelines in this story and honestly wish there were more flashbacks throughout the book. I felt like the ending was a biiiit cheesy, but I enjoyed it overall! The Christmas in NYC vibes are unmatched in this one. 👏 While it does take place around the holidays, it’s not overly Christmas-y so you could read it any time in the winter! Overall, I’d recommend this one if you want a sweet romance book set in NYC. This is only my second book by this author but I definitely plan to check out the other books on her backlist!

SO i put off reading this book because im not one for romcoms, but man was i wrong. Iris as a character was like any other woman when she has been hurt so many times and all you can do is lie to protect yourself because you think it will protect you. What i want is this as a movie so i can see Gio in real life and see if he matches what is in my head. When the fight came i knew it was coming but right there at the end, made me wait for it. I would have loved for Iris to hit Adam but im just glad someone did. Loved the book, it made me cheer on the characters, made me sad and cry in the right places and made me happy in the rest. Would read another book by her again. The ending could have been a bit better but I love it none the less.

I loved this winter romance from Josie Silver! There are a lot of holiday books out there and I personally love the stories that happen over a longer period of time - the story seems more plausible and you don't feel pressured to read it only during the month of December.

Recent New York transplant Iris is finally getting her fresh start. She is still grieving her mother's passing, and she wants to feel closer to her, so she moves to one of her mom's favorite places, The Big Apple. Iris found a journal in her mother's possessions filled with her adventures in NY, including a whirlwind romance with a man who owns a gelateria in the city. This man was so in love with Iris's mother that he even gives her their family's secret gelato recipe. Iris pours over every story and photo included in the diary, and one day while out exploring, she stumbles across a family-run gelateria. Could it actually be the same one from her mother's past?

Upon further investigation, Iris learns that the gelateria she found and the one documented in the journal are one in the same. The first time she enters the store, she meets the handsome Gio who is currently running the store with his sister. They tell her that the owner, their uncle, is currently comatose and he is the only person in their family with the secret recipe. The store is quickly falling into danger without the sales from their famous gelato. Iris happens to be a chef and offers to help the store figure out the recipe. Even though she has the exact recipe written down in a journal just a subway's ride away, Iris is anxious to give it to these strangers.

As weeks turn into months, Iris gets closer to Gio and the rest of his family. She is constantly thinking about the recipe and as time goes on, she gets herself in more and more trouble. She falls for Gio and doesn't want to lose him - but she also doesn't want their family to lose the store either. As they spend more time with each other that winter, Iris learns more about her mom's time in New York and her connection with this family.

When Gio's uncle wakes up from the coma, everything is going to come to light. Can Iris share all of her secrets and keep Gio at the end of it?

Although I really loved this story and the characters, the secrets between the characters drove me a little crazy. Miscommunication is my absolute least favorite trope, so it was really hard for me to get past the fact that all of the tension was completely avoidable if she had just told the truth in the beginning. Thankfully there were other smaller story lines going on besides the secret family recipe deception. I think it's really important to show healthy relationships in books and movies and media and this one just wasn't it for me.

Miscommunication tropes are the hardest for me to read, so this just didn’t land for me. I loved the cover and the idea of the book, but really need characters to say what they need to say!

I love Josie Silver and how she ties in various timeline elements to her stories. However this one didnt do it for me

This was a sweet book to read. I've loved everything else I've read from Josie Silver and enjoyed this book. My only complaint is that the ending seemed a little rushed and I felt like there were a couple of holes left in the plot when everything was wrapped up.

I enjoyed Josie Silver's last book so was excited to give her another shot! A Winter in New York ended up being a love letter to both New York and gelato, though it was heavy for a book with such a cute cover. Some parts were a little cheesy and predictable, but I really loved the side characters (especially Bobby and Robin!) and the descriptions of the city in December. I also thought that Iris's struggle with grief and loss was shown in a truly genuine, realistic way, and I loved the way Gio's family fully embraced her. I was looking for a lighter holiday read and this was it, but it had a few heavier topics sprinkled in to ground it a bit. Can't wait to see what the author does next! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. Now I need to go find some vanilla gelato to satisfy my craving!

I really enjoyed the characters in this story! Iris’s friend is delightful. And Gio’s family is amusing and warmhearted. Iris is living in New York. She has stumbled upon something connected to a secret her mother kept for years before she passed. As Iris gets more involved with Gio’s family, she knows that this secret will ruin everything.

I love Josie's other work, but unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to fall in love with this one. Even though it's about one of my favorite characters, New York City! The gelato and the meet-cute were positives, but I tend not to love books about abusive relationships (I should've done a bit more digging before requesting this one). Ultimately, I had to DNF it.

Author Josie Silver has once again brought me a heartwarming story that pulled at my heartstrings, and made me hungry for baked treats and vanilla gelato. The story begins with a bookstore meet-cute, and the plot is filled with with secrets, what-ifs, witty humor, and plenty of moments that pulled at my heartstrings.

Surprising twists and turns throughout. I love that the storyline incorporated memories with the main character’s mother. Their connection was significant and for her to also gain some new insight into who her mother was before she was born was also a nice twist.

This was my first time experiencing Josie Silver's writing style and it was really magical.
I loved how the story pulled me in from the beginning and I was so immersed in it. This book was so charming and cozy, and I highly recommend it, not only as a holiday romance, but also as a story about grief, healing, love, and family!

If you like Emily Henry and Emily Stone, you will love Josie's book!

Although I did get pulled into A Winter in New York as I usually do with Josie Silver’s writing, I had a hard time with one major aspect of this story. That being everything being based on lies. A relationship is doomed when based on lies in my opinion. I felt as though they were such basic lies (especially the first one) that could have easily been avoided and fixed. I know that wouldn’t have kept the story going and it was the point, but I just didn’t like that. Lies aside, I did enjoy Josie’s writing and some of the characters a lot. This won’t detract from her work or my want to read more of her books in the future.

There’s something about a holiday book set in NYC! Iris moves there to feel connected to her mom who passed away. This is a book about found family and secrets. There was some miscommunication that took me away from the story a bit but overall it was enjoyable.

I didn't love this one but I also didn't hate this one. However I'm not sure how I feel about this one. But I am learning that I'm not a fan of the author's heroines.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. I keep picking up Josie Silver's books but in the end I just find they are lacking a little something. I really liked the premise of this story - the FMC has just relocated to New York in a quest to find the city her late mother loved so much. She gravitates towards a gelateria that she recognizes from one of her mother's photo, and that simple action takes her on a path to find friends, love, family secrets, and herself. At times it was slow, but I was interested enough to keep reading and happy to find a happy-ever-after.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is my second book by Josie Silver and I must say I really did enjoy it. It wasn’t quite as good as One Night On The Island in my opinion, but it was a fun read. I needed a book for two different book challenges. First: theme - winter. Second: recipe (in title or book). This fit for both challenges. I’m not going to lie, at first I thought the storyline was a bit weird…girl tells a lie, has a family secret recipe, falls in love with the son of the gelato shop and can’t bring herself to tell him the truth. BUT…it was written so well that it kept my interest and kept me rooting for Iris and Gio throughout the whole story. Another very likable thing about this book are the characters. Loved them all! Especially Bobby and Sophia…actually all of the Belotti family, too. Of course the book was alittle predictable but the ending was perfect! I definitely recommend picking up a copy of A Winter In New York.
