I’ve adored every Josie Silver book and this one was no exception! I absolutely loved the winter in NY setting. The romance between the two main characters was nothing less than spectacular

Very cute and perfect for this winter!! Iris and Gio’s relationship was worth the slow burn.
The premise of the novel was great: NYC, winter, Little Italy.
My issue is the prolonged nature of Iris’s secrets and “lies”. She spent wayyy too much time not telling this man the truth and should’ve have done so the minute she realize her feelings.
I think this novel is quintessential Josie Silver, but it would’ve been perfect if Iris had told the truth a little sooner.

When Iris loses her mother and finally leaves her terrible ex-boyfriend, she wants a chance at a new life, so she heads to NYC to start over. A chance encounter at a Little Italy gelateria unravels a secret family recipe, intertwining her fate with the charming Gio and his family. As Iris navigates love, loyalty, and the delicate balance of secrets, the story unfolds with heartwarming moments and unexpected twists. One Day in December will always be my favorite Josie Silver book, so if you haven't read it, I would start there <3

Unfortunately I don't think I was the right audience for this particular book. Right off the bat the main female character lies about having a dead husband, and as someone who actually has a dead significant other, I probably took this more personal than I should have. Her lie is justified as the story unfolds but it's just something I couldn't get over. Additionally, the main plot is about having a huge secret and this trope really isn't for me. I did love the beautiful wintry New York setting and I thought the gelato aspect was cute. I did really enjoy Gio's character. I also really enjoyed One Day in December, so I'll continue to read books by this author even though this one wasn't for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Dell for providing me a digital reviewer copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

In my opinion, Josie is BACK, baby. I really loved her debut, One Day in December, but felt pretty blah about the two after. A Winter in New York, however, brought me back to my full blown Silver love.
This book had me going through all the emotions and feeling all the things. At one point I was just reading and crying on a plane and hoping no one was looking at me because I REFUSED TO STOP!
I really loved the development of the relationship with Iris and Gio and could feel the anxiety and heartache and joy in every step and turn. I'm really happy some of the later drama was resolved quickly because it was very much putting me on edge and, at one point, ragey.
It took me so long to write a review because I was feeling SO MUCH after reading it and I needed to process. I love when this happens for a book I love. I am so looking forward to Silver's next book and I hope we can keep meshing well.

An amazing wintery story about love, loss, and family! Seriously, it's the kind of story that grabs you right away and doesn't let go, starting in that New York City bookstore. The characters are so real and relatable – sharing their deep loses and forming new relationships while keeping family secrets. Josie Silver has this amazing way of making you feel like you're right there in the bustling streets of New York, especially during winter. It's not just a love story; it's a perfect mix of romance, friendship, and finding yourself, all set against the backdrop of the city that never sleeps. I love Josie's books, especially around the holidays and winters.

Unexpected 5 star reads are always the best🥹 Josie Silver has been an auto buy author for me ever since I ugly cried when I read The Two Lives of Lydia Bird
I’ve been in such a reading slump that I wasn’t expecting to love this one as much as I did
A perfect mix of life, friendship, and family traditions, partially set around the holidays✨although you wouldn’t HAVE to read it around Christmas by any means

Sweat in a gelato kind of way!
Iris was devastated after losing her mother to cancer. Then she moved to New York City after leaving London or escaping London should be a better way to describe it. She was in an abusive relationship and she finally was able to leave him behind.
Iris is a chef but in NYC, she is working in a noodle restaurant. Here is where she met Bobby, her friend who offered her a job and a place to stay. Iris doesn't go out much but when Bobby insists that she must go with him to the Little Italy's autumn fair, she can't say no. Her future changes when she stumbles into a family-owned gelateria with a door that seems familiar to her. She remembers the door from a picture her mother had. Her curiosity makes her return to it and walking inside she meets Gio, one of the family owners.
Gio is in dire straights. His gelateria might close soon. Santo his uncle and father figure had a stroke. Santo is the one who has the secret recipe for the famous vanilla gelato they have been serving for years. Unbeknownst to Gio, Iris knows the recipe and she has been making it for years. Her mother had been given the recipe years earlier by someone in Gio's family!
How can Iris help Gio without revealing secrets that could hurt him?
I liked the story. Gio was sweet and caring. His family was amazing. They all treated Iris so well. I also loved Bobby. He was there for Iris when she needed a helping hand.
I had some issues with Iris. I didn't like how many secrets she had and the lies she was keeping.
Overall, it was an enjoyable story.
Cliffhanger: No
3.5/5 Fangs

I loved this book!! It’s cliche to say but I really did laugh and cry. Not to mention the swoony romance scenes, intense page- turning moments, and super endearing relationships with quirky friends and lovable family characters. Some things are a little over-the-top, but I was so charmed by the characters that I didn’t even mind. I was also really touched by her healing journey with grief, and I think anyone who has lost a parent would find that storyline really resonant. Another great book from Josie Silver- probably my favorite one yet! Thanks NetGalley for this early release! I’m excited to recommend this to others!

loved this! iris was a great character who deserved good things. the coincidence of her finding the gelato shop her mother used to go to/know was a nice beginning touch. i don't think the fact that iris was deceiving gio by way of having the gelato recipe was a negative thing at all, it moved the story along and gave the characters depth. i loved the inclusion of gio's sisters and family. such a good ending, too

Warning: this book will make you crave vanilla gelato and a hot family man to fall in love with.
If you loved ONE DAY IN DECEMBER, this will be your next obsession!
This jumps from past to present, following the story of Iris and her mother. Iris, who is so close with her mom, struggles with the loss of her and finds anyway she can to connect with her mom now that she's gone. When her mothers pictures lead her to a little restaurant, she meets the most handsome man, who is in desperate need of help with his family's gelato recipe, one that Iris may have the key too.
UGH this one pulls at your heart strings, it was just so adorable and perfect and I have no notes. It is a wonderful Christmas read, but it's just an amazing romance you can pick up at any time. It was just the sweetest I love these characters so much!
Overall, this is the perfect quick read to cuddle up on the couch with while it's freezing outside!

I absolutely loved this book. It was really well written and it was also surprising. Thank you for the arc. I really appreciate it.

DNF. I wanted to like this, and it could have been that I just could not get into the winter vibes. I will want to try this again next year most likely, but for now, this book is not bad. It's just not for me.

A Winter in New York is Josie Silver’s newest winter romance book. Silver has definitely created a niche for writing stories on the streets of New York that pull readers in and makes them instantly invested. Iris flees to the city to escape a troubled past, she’s found work and an apartment, but aside from Bobby, her landlord/boss/friend, Iris doesn’t get out much. On a forced outing with Boppy, Iris finds herself outside a familiar gelateria. Iris realizes she’s seen the shop in a picture from her mother, who passed away. Inside, Iris meets Gio, who’s desperately trying to find out how to keep the gelateria up and running while it’s owner, his uncle, has lost his memory from a health scare. Without the gelato recipe, Gio is unable to keep the shop going, which his extended family depends on. Iris realizes that the recipe is the same one her mother has spent her life making for her, but Iris can’t figure out why her mother would have the family recipe that has never been shared. Unable to turn away, Iris agrees to help Gio, but doesn’t confess how much she knows. Over the course of the several weeks, Iris discovers that not only is Gio an incredible person, but his entire family seems to welcome and adopt her in. I loved Gio and his family and felt like A Winter in New York would make a perfect holiday movie! While the story was sometimes a little slow going, it was sweet, endearing and very romantic. Iris, Gio and Bobby were all very likable and enjoyable characters that kept the story engaging throughout. Fans of Silver will be thrilled that her newest novel is a perfect holiday companion!
A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was in the mood for a seasonal book and decided to give Josie Silver a second chance. Ultimately, her books just aren’t for me. I couldn’t get into the story or connect with the characters. I tried listening to part of it as an audiobook and that was even worse! I wouldn’t tell everyone to avoid this book, but it just wasn’t for me.

Loved this book! My favorite holiday book is One Day in December so when I saw Josie Silver was coming out with a new holiday book I had to read it. Loved the NYC setting, the family, the characters, the gelato, everything. Definitely recommend to read during the holidays.

To be completely honest, I wasn’t really a fan of this one. It took forever for me to finally get invested, and by then I wasn’t in the mood.

Iris and her secrets! Love love love all of the side characters and regret reading this in the winter when it’s hard to find gelato. This book was a delight!

4.5 Stars!
This was such a charming, cozy read! I absolutely fell in love with these characters and the found family vibes in this book and the interwoven, dual timeline was so well done and made me even more invested in the story. I also found the nuanced discusions of grief and toxic relationships to be poignant and impactful. I need a big bowl of Belotti's vanilla gelato in my life ASAP after finishing this book, please.
I really loved the writing in A Winter in New York - I highlighted SO many passages. This was the first book I've read by Josie Silver and I can't wait to read more!
Many thanks to Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for the ARC!

Thank you, NetGalley for the advanced copy of A Winter in New York by Josie Silver. This was one of my favorite Christmas reads of 2023. I love that these two had an invisible string that tied them together, that led to their happily ever after.
