Amish romances have quickly become a trope that I seek out more and more. 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 was my first Amy Lillard romance. I will be honest and say that it took me a moment to get into this one but once I did I enjoyed it very much. This romance features a mature couple finding love again. Hattie and Christian are polar opposites. She’s very outgoing and he is more reserved, I enjoyed watching them evolve and change as the story progressed and their feelings developed. What started as a bet, turned into so much more. I’m giving this one the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
What a delightful and fun read this was! I loved Hattie’s outlook on life and it was only natural that she be the one to try to cheer up Christian. Each character was great and important to the story.
Many thanks to Kensington and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
When Hattie finds Love
I enjoyed Hattie and Christian story. Loved them cooking together and others things they did together. Loved that they were older and found second chances do exist.
I received an advanced copy of the book from NetGalley. This book review is my own opinion.
The Amish have a high regard to marriage and when a spouse passes away, they welcome a 2nd chance at love and family. Hattie and Christen are in their 60's and have no desire to remarry. Their children are grown and both live with a relative. Hattie and Christen are complete opposites. Hattie always finds something to smile about and Christen doesn't smile at all. In fact, many in his community think that he is grumpy but a good man. Hattie is very competitive and takes a bet with her cousin that she can make Christen smile. Starting with inviting him to Sadie Hawkins Whoopie pie contest, she invites Christen. They get to know each other and start to have a sweet regard for each other. However, Christen did not smile not once. Hattie just doesn't understand but she wants to. Her competitive side is now on overdrive. But something happens as they get to know each other and find ways to be together.
I enjoyed getting to know them thru the ups and downs. When the bet is confronted, it changes both of them and it becomes another way for them to work thru it or give up. If you enjoy Amish reads, you will enjoy this one.
A special thank you to Kensington Publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
When I have the pleasure of reading an Amy Lillard book - I am immediately taken to a happy place. Hattie and Christian are the perfect blend of opposites attract. Can outgoing Hattie bring out the softer side of the reserved Amish farmer Christian? This is another Amy Lillard Must Read Book, It will keep you entertained and joyful as you read and learn that opposites do attract.
I have sat down with this book numerous times over the last couple of weeks. But with Christmas and life, I never could squeeze out enough minutes for reading. Finally, I got to read it all the way through, and I’m so glad I didn’t give up. Such a fun story, with a sweet moral and a lovely message, you won’t want to miss it. When Hattie Finds Love by Amy lillard is about Hattie and Christian. Hattie is all smiles. Christian never smiles. Somehow, though, they will find that they compliment each other perfectly. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher. And thanks for being patient with me!
When Hattie finds Love is about Hattie Schrock a fifty-seven-year widow and Christian Beachy, a sixty-year-old widower. Both have grown children with lives of their own and are actively involved in their community.
Hattie and her cousin, Elsie, run the popcorn shop in town and stay together in the flat above it. Hattie has a very cheerful outlook and looks at life from a glass is half full perspective. Christian on the other hand, lives with his unmarried sister and works the farm growing his much sort after vegetables that he supplies to the residents in Paradise Valley as well as Paradise Hill. He goes about his business with a perpetual frown on his face.
A warm, feel-good story that will have you smiling and rooting for the couple. I enjoyed the interaction of the community as well as their support for each other.
Loved it and loved the writing style. Have purchased another book from this same series and plan to have Amy Lilliard as my new favourite author.
I received an ARC from the publishers and NetGalley and submit my honest review.
When Hattie Finds Love is the fourth book in the Paradise Valley series by Amy Lillard, a favorite author. It was nice to be back in Paradise Valley and reunited with characters we've met before in addition to new ones. This is Hattie and Christian's story. It might have started as friendship but becomes so much more. But will their feelings survive when Christian finds out the details?
There is depth to the story and the characters whether they are the main characters or those in supporting roles. I liked how the community was always there for each other and how their faith shined through. There are many stories being told that are nicely woven together. There are heartwarming and laugh out loud moments along with along with some tears too. There are family and friends along with traditions and faith and their Amish ways. I loved that the Whoopie Pie Widows Club wasn't forgotten. There is closure with Hattie and Christian getting a second chance at love especially when they least expect it.
Ms. Lillard is a versatile writer and I'm definitely partial to her Amish stories. Give her books a try if you haven't already.
Will they see the second chance in front of them?
You know, sometimes you just need to sit down, take a little time out, and let yourself drift away reading a sweet romance. The Paradise Valley series from Amy Lillard is always good for that in my opinion. The characters are likable but flawed, they have realistic problems that they work through, and in the the 'boy' finally gets the 'girl'. I, of course, use those terms loosely because...
One of the things that I love best about Amy Lillard's Paradise Valley series with its band of 'Whoopie Pie' Widows is the variety in ages of the heroes and heroines – from early 20s to grandmothers. When Hattie Finds Love is the perfect example of this as both Hattie and Christian have grown children and a small flock of grandchildren. I really like how each generation has problems that are different and that are the same. The humorous moments such as Christian and Hattie with the bicycle are perfect alongside the more poignant ones.
A friendly warning while reading When Hattie Finds Love, don't read it hungry because if the whoopie pies don't get your stomach growling Hattie and her cousin's popcorn certainly will.
If you love sweet Amish romances that are not just cookie cutter of every other one that you've read, I'd definitely recommend When Hattie Finds Love and the rest of the charming Paradise Valley series from Amy Lillard. They are all easy reads and will make you smile...
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Hattie Schrock is an older widow who's happy to attend her Whoopie PIe Widows' Club meetings and run the popcorn shop with her cousin Elsie. Hattie could also be described as an eternal optimist! Christian Beachy is a widower who might be considered just a tad grumpy. What would happen if Hattie accepted a challenge to change his outlook? Could she win a bet to make Christian Beachy smile in 60 days?
This is a lovely conclusion to the Paradise Valley Series! Author Amy Lillard offers readers humor, hope, and the wonderful reminder that affairs of the heart aren't determined by age. Why shouldn't two older people find friendship, companionship, and even love in their golden years? Just be prepared for your heartstrings to be tugged when Christian discovers Hattie's bet!
If you're longing for a feel-good story about second chances, grab a copy of When Hattie Finds Love. I recommend it to all who enjoy Amish fiction!
I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review.
I’m sitting here with a big SMILE on my face after reading the last page. Amish exhibit love but they also have trials and troubles like everyone else. Hattie owns a popcorn shop along with her cousin. Christian supplies home grown vegetables to local restaurants and groceries. They are both in their late fifties-early sixties. Both have lost their spouses through death. Their big difference is that Hattie is always positive and smiling, Christian goes around with a perpetual frown on his face and never smiles.
Hattie excepts a bet with her cousin that she will be able to get Christian to smile. Will she succeed or will she lose? Two of my favorite parts was when Hattie learns to ride a bicycle and when she and Christian enter a whoopie pie contest.
Lots of fun and even though it’s not a Christmas story it will warm your heart and make you smile just like it did for me. Now I need to go and pop me some popcorn!

I loved this fun filled Amish romance with an older widow and a widower. I had so much fun with Hattie and Christian as they grew to love each other because of a bet. I enjoyed Christian as he became less stuffy and more friendly. I received a copy of the book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
I loved the characters in this book. Hattie's character will enduring and has her hands full in trying to change the heart of Christian. Christian may find life different when Hattie gets involved.
I received this book from the author and I am under no obligation to leave a positive review.
When Hattie Finds Love by Amy Lillard, book four in the Paradise Valley series, features Hattie and Christian; an older couple and have loved and lost before getting a second chance at love. Hattie, an optimistic and happy person, is bothered that fellow community member, Christian, never smiles. Hattie’s cousin, Elsie, makes a bet with her that Hattie won’t be able to make Christian happier. While getting to know Christian, Hattie finds herself facing both personal challenges and the surprises that come with falling in love.
Ms. Lillard wrote a sweet and engaging story, bringing readers to a charming small-town where love blossoms in the most unexpected ways. With a touch of humor, a dash of Southern charm, and characters you can't help but root for. Themes of family, self-discovery and the power of second chances are skillfully woven throughout. I highly recommend When Hattie Finds Love to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This book is a sweet fun read. It's a lighthearted Amish romance that will leave you with a smile. This book is an absolute joy to read.
I received a complimentary copy from Kensington Books, Zebra via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
When Hattie Finds Love is a delightful addition to the Paradise Valley series set in Missouri in Amish country. Widows Hattie and her cousin Elsie own the Paradise Popcorn shop and live together over the shop. Hattie is always positive and smiling, a happy person. Widower Christian is a local farmer supplying fruits and vegetables around the Valley. He is known as a grump who never smiles. After a little wager with Elsie, Hattie sets out to make Christian smile. The two become friends, only friends they tell each other, but they really like each other and eventually even more. This is such a cute, sweet story of two older people going through awkward steps to spend time together and get to know each other better. It is sure to bring on a smile to your face and a chuckle as these two wonderful grandparents get a second chance at love.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.
Readers who like lighthearted Amish romance novels will enjoy this latest book in the Paradise Valley series. Hannah is always smiling and positive about everything and is a shining example of depending on God. She is determined to make Christian, the grumpy widower smile to win the bet her cousin tricked her into making. Very enjoyable but somewhat predictable story. Recommended.
Hattie is a ray of sunshine. She is an Amish Pollyanna. I couldn't help but like the character right away. Christian appears to be a grump. He never smiles and is just about the opposite of Hattie. She notices his sad appearance and decides she can make him smile. As a matter of fact, she is determined to make him smile. Elsie, her cousin challenges her, and they actually make a bet that even Hattie cannot make that grumpy widower smile. (Amish business owners making a "bet" to wash popcorn company equipment is so comical.)
This is such an amusing story. I received a copy from Kensington Publishing via NetGalley. This is my own unsolicited opinion. I enjoyed this older couple's challenging acquaintances to friends to love story. It certainly reflects on the "don't judge a book by its cover" theme. The reader gets to know Christian and see the value in it. He is a good man. The results of Hattie's well-intended pursuit and her bet with Elsie makes for a fun read.
When Hattie Finds Love was a sweet story about two slightly older main characters, a widow and widower, who found love together when neither one was looking for it.
I really liked Hattie and Christian. They definitely seemed like opposites when the story opened up. And they did have differing personalities and ways of reacting to things. However, they were more alike than anyone would have believed. I thought it was fun that they enjoyed many of the same types of things and that spending time together brought them out of their comfort zones and helped them to see that even though they both had nice lives on their own, it was more fun to spend time together.
This story is part of the Paradise Valley series, yet I think that anyone could jump into this story and enjoy it without any trouble. I really liked this book and seeing these two characters get to know each other more deeply and learn that their hearts were more than simple reflections of a smile or a frown.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This is a sweet and clean romance of a member of the widow’s group, Hattie. She and her cousin, Elsie decide to make a little bet that Hattie can get a certain grumpy looking widower to “smile”. Not normally a big challenge but in the case of widower, Christian, it appears to be impossible. And it is definitely going to be a challenge to see if a smile will ever happen… This is a really enjoyable book and is a light and refreshing story. The story develops in a very organic way and the characters are so nice you just enjoy them so much. I really enjoyed all the characters and their individual roles in the story. It was a well-paced book and I recommend it to all those Amish fiction lovers out there! And if you haven’t read Amish fiction, it’s a great way to start your love of this genre.
