A delightful story that shows that change can bring happiness. A bet, a grouchy man, and the Amish way of life are all found in this sweet story. I enjoyed reading this one. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
This is a story of second chances and more than one, but it is also a story a story of seasoned citizens finding happiness and a companion.
What starts out as an innocent bet, get grumpy Christian to smile and I'll wash the copper vats, and it is not a fun job at the popcorn shop, all that sticky sugar!
How could anything go wrong, surely outgoing Hattie can get a quick smile, and so a journey of lunches, ice cream, and of course whoopie pies.
I loved this page turner, and be aware this one will make you hungry, there is a lot to do with food, and maybe a few laugh out loud moments, along with some sweet romance!
I really enjoyed the epilogue!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
When Hattie Finds Love is a well written romance. This book has an enjoyable plot. I definitely recommend it.
Amish romance is my favourite genre, so I was surprised not to have heard of this author previously.
This story follows Hattie, a happy and kind-hearted person who truly cares for those around her. It bothers her that fellow community member, Christian, never smiles. When her cousin bets Hattie that she can’t get Christian to smile, she accepts, and ends up getting more than she bargained for.
A sweet, light, quick read, easily finished in an hour.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.
When Hattie Finds Love is another great story in the Paradise Valley series by Amy Lillard. Hattie is a very optimistic and happy person, and it truly bothers her that fellow community member, Christian, never smiles. Hattie’s cousin, Elsie, makes a bet with her that she can’t make Christian happier, and Hattie ends up getting a lot more out of the bet than she ever expected.
I believe this is my favorite story in this series so far. Hattie was a very likable and relatable character, and it was very easy to get behind her motivation for wanting to help other people be happier. Although Christian’s personality is very different from Hattie’s, I found myself really liking him as well, and I was rooting for him through the entire book. It was also nice to catch up on some of the characters from the previous stories in this series.
I really enjoyed this story, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Christian fiction or Amish stories. This book is great as a standalone story, but if you haven’t read the previous books in the series, you definitely should.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington Publishing through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Hattie Schrock is the Widows Club's most outgoing member. She has relied on this club to help her through losing her husband and building her popcorn shop! They are her friends. When fellow member, Elsie, bets Hattie that she can't get Paradise Valley's most miserable man to be happy, Hattie accepts the challenge!
Christian Beachy is a widower who supports his unwed sister and has a thriving vegetable business. He is busy. When Hattie asks Christian to a fundraiser, he is surprised that he agrees. They have a nice outing, and they begin spending more time together. Christian even asks Hattie to help plan his sister's birthday party.
When he finds out that Hattie was being nice to him to win a bet, Christian is hurt. Hattie needs to find a way to show Christian that her feelings are genuine.
This is a feel-good Christian romance. Hattie and Christian are both stuck in their ways. I felt like giggling. I wanted to cry. I felt all the emotions while reading this novel. I enjoy this series, and I look forward to the next one!
Thank you to @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks for the opportunity to read in exchange for my opinion.

This is a sweet story about Hattie and Elsie, cousins who run the local popcorn shop, a btw and finding love in unexpected places. Not all bets and love stories have a happy ending, turn the pages to find out which one wins in the end.
This is such a sweet story about how one person Hattie so wants for another of her community to be happy. She sets off on a mission to get Christian to smile without telling him that this is a bet she has with her cousin. As they work together on his sisters birthday party things start to change between them. They are both in their later years 60+ and so Hattie thinks that there is no way for a romance to develop between them but what we have learned if we have opened our hearts to love that romance has no age limit, no expiration date.
So things start to become comfortable between the two and they start spending more and more time together. Will everything change if Christian finds out it all started with a bet over popcorn copper pots? Will he feel like he has been duped and will he ever see that smiling is so much more comfortable than frowning all the time. Or, is it that when he is content his face looks likes it frowning but he is really happy.
Easy book to read, was given book as an ARC read through NetGalley and promised to give my complete and honest reaction to the book and story. I will tell you though Amy Lillard is one of my favorite authors and have been reading her stories for years. If you have not picked up a book of hers now is the time to do it. You absolutely will not be sorry.
When Hattie Finds Love by Amy Lillard has you falling in love with the characters so quickly. Hattie is a sixty-eight-year-old widow who is always smiling, optimistic, and turning everything over to God. Christian is a seventy-one-year-old widower who is never smiling and gives the impression of being a 'curmudgeon' (as Hattie says).
What can possibly go wrong when Hattie's cousin and business partner Elsie makes a bet that Hattie cannot make Christian smile within 60 days? Being overly competitive, Hattie accepts the bet, but how to go about it?
This book will make you smile, laugh, and cry and wish for more.
A copy was provided for my review, but all opinions are my own.
I adored reading When Hattie Finds Love. Amy Lillard has written a sweet and heartwarming tale. I am giving it five stars.
I received this ARC free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I love a good Amish romance. This was a bit different than most I have read. It is about a woman in her widower’s group who makes a bet with her cousin. She bets that Hattie can’t make the widow Christian (who is the community grump) smile.
Such a great read if you enjoy Amish romance!
Amy Lillard is a great writer who makes her characters enjoyable and easy to love. You can’t help by smile or laugh at her characters antics and her books are always a fun read. I found this novel to be whimsical and delightful.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All words are my own.
Hattie Schrock is a widow who runs a popcorn shop with her widowed cousin. Together they decide that taciturn Christian Beachy, who shares a home with his sister, needs to smile. Hattie thinks she can bring joy into his life and get him to smile. Christian is all into his vegetable business and just doesn't feel the need to smile. But he's not really unhappy or grumpy like they think. He's just confortable with his status quo. Hatties attempts to make him smile eventually make him smile and give his thoughts a new direction. Hattie was looking for a new husband but she starts seeing possibilities as well. With some misunderstandings and some false starts, they eventually find a new purpose in their lives. Very sweet Amish tale.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
This was a cute read in every sense. I love Lillard's books. She is a wonderful story teller.
There were places that I continually giggled and smiled at Hattie. Simply cause her personality is like mine in many ways..
Hattie is a lovable character. I loved her immediately. She's an overthinker and a worrier like me.
Just because a person doesn't smile doesn't mean that they're not happy. Maybe things in life happened to them or maybe it was just in the way they were raised like Christian for example.
I liked Christian. Yes, I admired him as well too. I thought he was a very nice man.
I do love the festival setting. Those are my favorite things to go to when it isn't so hot like now. Ugh
I.drooled over the Whoopi pies! Yummy!
I was happy to see Sylvie back. She is what made the story. I felt sorry fornher in the 1st book after losing that contest. I kept rooting for her in this one.
In fact she's what made this story too. Her shenanigans made me truly laugh.
The other characters in didn't care much for was Elsie and Malinda. They definitely made me SMH.
The truth will always come out no matter what even if you had good intentions but always remember maybe that person doesn't want help or thinks they don't need it.
I enjoyed this story and was delighted to see the characters from the first book!
The cover is gorgeous and i laughed at Hattie on the cover. She looks like she is having a grand time!
I'm still smiling and grinning long after this story is over especially when I look at the cover!
Love indeed is a struggle at times and it can find you at the weirdest times and places! I should know!
It's all about the perfect timing with God's help. If it's meant to be then it will happen.
5 stars even though I found some places that were too repetitive. This book was still a fun read however if that makes sense.
I highly recommend!
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Yellow is my favorite color!
This is a sweet romance about finding love when you least expect it. Amish widow Hattie makes a bet with her cousin that she get grumpy Christian to smile. But she ends up getting more then she bargained for.
I have greatly enjoyed Amy Lillard's stories thus far. She does not disappoint in this new novel! This author has a wonderful imagination, and creates a wonderful cast of characters with depth and care.
Hattie is a woman who has raised her family and now has grandchildren. She is a widow, and has a beautiful sunny disposition. She doesn't see the negatives in life. Hattie believes that everyone could benefit from a more positive attitude. Christian is also a Widow. He has also raised his family and his children are now grown with grandchildren for Christian. Christian's sister (Malinda) lives with him on his farm. Malinda never married.
Hattie belongs to a Widow's club called the Whoope Pie Widows' Club. She lives over her popcorn shop with her cousin Elsie. When Hattie expresses concern that Christian is a widow in the community who seems to be very grumpy, Elsie challenges Hattie to a bet that she could alter Christian's attitude by introducing him to the wonders of a positive attitude. The prize is that the loser must wash the copper popcorn pots every day for a year (the one job they both greatly dislike).
This story goes on to follow Hattie and Christian as they form a relationship of close friendship. Hattie discoverers that although Christian may not smile, this does not mean he is unhappy as she and Elsie were so convinced. This is a story that shows how everyone faces life and its challenges differently, but that this does not mean that outward appearances are always reflective of what's truly in the heart.
This book is truly worth the read. It was an upbeat easy read. I will continue to read every book I can find from Amy Lillard. I will absolutely be recommending this book on my blog found at https://thefinalwordbooks.blogspot.com. I only publish reviews that meet a certain level of criteria, as I search for the very best work (in my opinion).
Thank you, Kensington Books and Netgalley, for allowing me this opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I greatly cherish these opportunities.
