Christmas at the Shelter Inn
By RaeAnne Thayne
Release date October 10, 2023

I would love to live at the Shelter Inn. I this is now a retirement community in the town of Shelter Springs.
Natalie Shepherd comes home to Shelter Springs to help her sister. McKenna is on total bed rest with her third child. After having two devastating miscarriages.
Well, at home, she runs into Griffin Taylor. Her brothers, best friend who she happens to have been in love with her entire life. Griffin, of course looked at her as his best son sister, and she was also his younger sister. He was definitely seeing her differently now.

You can always count on RaeAnne to write a great story. And this one is no exception. It has so much going on with great characters, family heartache, family love, family dysfunction, and romance.

I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to anybody that loves Christmas stories.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC

Will there be a new romance in Shelter Springs? Read to find out.

Christmas at the Shelter Inn is a delightful Christmas romance which will put the reader in the Christmas spirit. The story introduces us to a few interesting characters with some of them having some sad but interesting back stories.

Natalie has come home to help care for her sisters 2 young children when their Mother is out on bed rest at the end of a pregnancy. Their family owns Silver Springs, which they have turned into apartments for seniors. Natalie’s memories of the town are hard for her. Her Mother died of cancer and in his grief her Father left, shortly after he left her brother died in an accident. This is a story about a small town and a family that is trying to deal with their past, each in a different way. There is a great cast of characters, particularly the 2 little girls Natalie is looking after. This is a story that eventually leads to a heart warming resolution, with a few bumps along the road. Christmas at the Shelter Inn by RaeAnne Thayne is the start of a new series. I was able to read this from NetGalley. Natalie comes home to Shelter Springs to help her Sister. Natalie’s family owns Shelter Springs Inn which is now an apartment complex for senior citizens. McKenna has two little girls and is on strict bed rest. Natalie is there to take over the girls care. Griffin has started a practice as a family practitioner. He is the best from to Natalie and McKenna’s brother that had passed away. Griffin’s grandmother lives at the Inn. After rescuing Natalie, they have many encounters over the next few weeks. Will Griffin be able to convince Natalie to move back permanently? This was another wonderful book. I loved it. Keep the Kleenex handy, good tears only.

Christmas at the Shelter Inn by RaeAnne Thayne is about redemption and forgiveness. The main characters, Natalie and Griffin, have complex and difficult histories. Through their interaction, they develop a clearer understanding of the events that have shaped their lives. This allows them to work through old griefs and hurts that shaped and hindered their lives so that they can move forward. There is a lot of loving family support as well as some conflict and a very nice romance. This is a lovely Christmas read. Strongly recommended.

After years of resistance to spending the holidays in her childhood home of Shelter Springs, Natalie Shepherd responds to her pregnant sister McKenna's plea for help: McKenna is on bed rest and unable either to look after her two little girls and or to run the Shelter Inn, their childhood home and now a residence of senior apartments. Natalie's visit kicks off with a rough start as she accidentally runs her rental car off the road and must be rescued by local doctor Griffin Taylor, her late brother's best friend. While their attraction is evident from the start, Natalie fully expects to head back to her digital nomad lifestyle after McKenna's baby is born, and she doesn't want to get involved with Griffin. But when they keep running into each other and helping each other out, the attraction becomes difficult to resist.

Author Thayne regularly delivers a holiday romance with heart, and this is no exception. Both the main characters have difficult family histories and plenty of heartache in their pasts, all of which have affected them deeply: Natalie, abandoned by their father after their mother's death, prefers to roam the world and avoid attachments, while Griffin struggle to prove himself worthy as a doctor and not a carbon copy of his alcoholic father. Both have their struggles but also their support networks, especially among the crowd of sassy seniors at the Shelter Inn, and they both learn the power of forgiveness on the way to finding their HEA.

Thayne can always be relied on to create a cozy community of characters, plots that pull at your heartstrings, and a romance that feels real. I enjoyed the books set in neighboring Haven Point, and I hope this might be the beginning of a Shelter Springs series (perhaps with Haven Point cameos), but on its own it's a lovely comfort read for the holidays. 4 stars.

Thank you, Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley, for providing an eARC of this book. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.

A heartwarming slow burn Christmas tale. Filled with quirky characters and family drama. Natalie is an editor and travel writer who is called home for an emergency. Her sister, a mother of 2 young girls is pregnant and put on strict bedrest. Natalie at first feels out of her element but soon comes to love and enjoy her family. She also finds love unexpectedly. The story is rich and rewarding. I recommend it.

This talented author has written a fun book about love and family. The realistic characters keep the story moving quickly. Forgiveness is a part of this novel. This book would make a great movie. Sisters, along with children and friends, are at the center of this romantic tale. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the gifted author. I liked this quick read. Entertaining. I liked the third person narrative and the one timeline. Enjoy
