Going into this book I thought it could be read as a stand alone and I’m now realizing that it’s best read in order as book #4 of the series. I really enjoyed what I read and it seems to be a really fun series. I’m looking forward to starting from the beginning!
The Hollow Dead is book 4 in the Gravekeeper series. While some of the backstory is provided, I think it’s best to read at least one or two of the previous books first.
This is my favorite of the series so far. The plot is fast-paced, with lots of action. We’re finally given more answers about Keira’s past, making this book feel much more satisfying.
The horror vibe is perhaps more intense in this book, especially toward the end. Still, it’s not gruesome or graphic. The “cozy horror” label is a good fit.
Keira, Mason and Zoe are back in the next book of the Gravekeeper series. The story picks up relatively close to the end of book three. The story jumps straight into the action and dropping clues about Artec and Keira. Readers learn quite a bit more through the book about the secretive organization Artec and their nefarious doings. Followers of the series will be excited to learn that book 4 reveals some huge revelations about Keira, her family, her childhood and more. Sprinkled throughout the book are also some smaller mysteries to keep the story moving. Overall, it is a fast fun read. Coates does a wonderful job of creating suspense and intrigue while keeping the story accessible and engaging. This is what initially drew me to the series and keeps me reading.
Thank you @poisonedpenpress and @netgalley for the e-galley.
I’m a big fan of @darcybooks. She writes the very best haunted house and paranormal books. We all know how much I love haunted houses and ghosts. She also happens to have a new book out today.
The Hollow Dead is the fourth book in The Gravekeeper series, which is a paranormal cozy mystery series. I don’t want to give too much away because I think this series is best enjoyed by reading it in order. Keira is the main character and she can speak to the dead and can help them move on from the mortal world. There are also men that are hunting her and she doesn’t know why. She can’t remember much from her past.
It’s a fun series to read. Cozy, but with ghosts. Not always friendly ghosts.
The characters I’ve grown to adore are back and as great as ever! Such a fun, cozy YA mystery. This book finally gave me the back story I’ve been waiting for!
P.S. This is the 4th book of the series. I do recommend reading books 1-3 first!
Another great addition to Darcy Coates' Gravekeep Series.
Picking up right where the 3rd ended. Asking questions and added new ones.
Can't wait to see what happens next
Once again fun and slightly ridiculous if you think about it too much, the next adventure of Keira and the Scooby bunch doesn’t really disappoint. There are a finally answers and thigns tied into bows. Why does Kiera see dead people? Who was she before she turned up without a memory? We get to know. Will they or won’t they? Sure. Again, just don’t think too much about what the actual plot is and why thisa is all happening.
I wasn’t aware this book was part of a series. I would suggest that you read this series in order to better enjoy this book.
It’s a fast paced book. I liked the group of friends and their dynamic together. Even tho I hadn’t read the previous ones I still enjoyed this one.
I fell in love with this series as soon as I started reading the first book. Book one Keira had no idea who she was or where she was. She was lucky to be given a little cottage in a graveyard to help the souls pass over to the other side. And now, we are seeing Keira try to defeat Artec to free the enslaved spirits. Each book is better than the last and the story builds wonderfully and makes me want more. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I need to see where building relationships are going. (No spoiler here).
This has to be my favorite book from the series so far, it was action packed from beginning to end and we learned so much MORE about Keira as some major revelations came to light. An unexpected character joined Keira,Zoe and Mason and quickly became my absolute favorite.
It was a really fun read and I enjoyed it so much!
👻👻👻👻👻/5.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @poisonedpenpress for the ARC for my honest opinion. 🖤
Keira, with her friends Mason and Zoe continue their quest to take down Artec, a company that is profiting off cyphering power from dead souls. I enjoyed this 4th installment of Dracy Coates' Gravekeeper series! I highly enjoy these characters, including harry, who doesn't have many friends, but joins them on an adventure. Each character is accepting of Keira's powers, seeing and communicating with the dead. Also, in the short time they've known her, they really care about her and she cares equally for them. This series, and this book, are action packed, paranormal, and heartfelt.
YIKES BIKES!!! Its Darcy Coates!!!!
If Coates, wrote a phonebook, I would read it. The depths of my love for this author are immeasurable and this book right here is everything my little heart could have desired and so much more.
In true Coates fashion, you'll never figure out this twisted tale and when it smacks you right up in the face, you'll never know what hit you.
If you know anything about Coates books you know not to spoil it for the next reader. So, I will leave you with this, read The Hollow Dead, it will change the way you feel about the paranormal genre and sets a whole new bar for authors to follow.
Check out this teaser :
When Keira first woke alone in a strange forest, she remembered only two things: that she could speak with the dead, helping them move on from the mortal world, and that sinister mask-wearing men were hunting her. She had no idea what she'd done to earn their hatred or what dangerous secrets she may have uncovered.
Until now.
Peeling back layer upon layer of the mystery surrounding her origins, Keira has finally learned that the strange masked men work for Artec, an organization profiting off spectral energy produced by hundreds of chained, tormented souls. Their goal is to spread their macabre cemeteries across the world, using the agony of the dead to extend their power and reach―and only Keira and her loyal group of friends can stop them. But there are still mysteries to uncover in Keira's foggy memories, and as she prepares to fight for the souls of the tormented dead, what she doesn't know about her own past may come back to haunt her.
thank you net galley for the arc. so this is a story about keira, and her group of friends who have to stop the artec organization. but can only remember that she can talk to the dead and that she is being hunted by men in mask, this book is creepy/eerie. the characters are done really well.. good paranormal suspence
It’s been awhile since Keira woke up in a forest with no memories other than she can speak with the dead and that there are bad guys chasing her because of it. Book 4 in the Gravekeeper series picks up right where book 3 left off. With her friends Mason and Zoe, Keira attempts to track down the men, whom she learns work for a company called Artec. Artec is trying to profit off the spectral energy produced by the dead, and it is their goal to build cemeteries for that purpose across the country. Keira wants to put a stop to them and free the tormented souls that haven’t been allowed to cross over in peace.
I just love this series! Though it’s really a mystery/horror, it really is so endearing too! I love Keira’s growing friendships with Mason and Zoe and this book had Harry along with them for some of their adventures. He seriously may be one of my favorite side characters - his monotone underreactions to everything are hysterical and I thought he rounded out their crew perfectly. I love that with each story, we find out a little more of Keira’s backstory (right along with her, since she doesn’t remember). I wasn’t expecting to be emotional reading this one but I was a bit, as Keira finally started to figure out who she was and having been a long time fan of this series, it really tugged at my heartstrings.
That is not to say that this wasn’t action packed and full of dead people, because it certainly was! Keira and crew found themselves in a literal ghost town, having several close calls being caught by Artec. You definitely need to read these in order to understand some things but they are quick reads!
“The Hollow Dead” releases February 13, 2024! Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, Netgalley and Darcy Coates for the ARC! This review will be shared to my instagram blog (@books_by_the_bottle) shortly :)
Spoilers in this review!
I loved this book so much! Darcy delivered yet again. The characters in the Gravekeeper series are so incredibly loveable. There was also a lot of suspense in this one and it was a great build up to (hopefully) one final chapter in Keira’s story. Also!!! And this is a SPOILER!
KEIRA AND MASON!!!!! Finally!!!!! I flew through this book and am so thankful to have been given an ARC of this one. I love how the ghosts change each time and Keira constantly discovers more about herself. And home girl finally got her memories back too which was amazing! Excited to see what’s next for this crew!
The Hollow Dead is the fourth book in the Gravekeeper series. The story picks up shortly after the events in the last book. Things are progressing in Keira's quest to uncover more about the mysterious corporation that wants her dead. When tragedy strikes close to home Keira and friends will set on a direct course of action.
I enjoyed catching up with the cast of characters. They are all fun and loveable. We get to see more of Harry which is nice. On the flipside we get less time with the ghosts in the graveyard. They have always felt like characters and are the soul of the series. There are many more ghosts in other locations than have been seen previously as Keira tracks down Artec but we don't get much interaction with them despite their importance. So The Hollow Dead ends up feeling less ghostly.
That's not the only difference. The characters seem a lot different, from the way they talk to their interactions. They act and talk a lot younger than in the previous books. The dialogue is repetitive and less than interesting at times.
Some scenes and internal thoughts could have been shortened or left out. It makes the story slow down right after something interesting happens. There is a great sequence as the friends search through an abandoned amusement park. It's a fun and creepy setting but then the action shifts to a different location. Despite a lot happening there it's not as fun. It's nice to learn more about Keira's past but some things are.not fully explained. Also there's one part that I have a hard time suspending belief for.
Overall I was left feeling disappointed. The developments in characters and storyline make the The Hollow Dead feel like a different series.
I absolutely love this series and seeing from book to book, how much new information we get about Keira’s past is one of my favorite things. This one, in that aspect, was a doozy!!
This is action packed, this is heart wrenching, and it’s still perfectly spooky. I love the addition of Harry more and more into the mix, because I think he provides a morose but lovable personality that balances out the group.
I don’t know how long this series will go on, but I’m here for however much Darcy Coates wants to give us!!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
I’m in the unpopularity crowd, I was unaware this was apart of a series, however I didn’t feel confused due to the author being pretty thorough in beginning by sharing past events.
This was a great installment and can’t wait to read the next book! In the meantime, I’ll go back and read the others in the series.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far and book #4 was no exception. It starts off right where the last one ended and almost immediately is action packed. I was so happy to finally get some answers to a lot of the questions I've been left with previously. There were some shocking reveals, which I really liked. I really enjoyed the amusement park and ghost town setting, I thought that was a lot of fun. I FLEW through this book, reading it in just a couple hours. I can't wait to see where this goes next and Keira and Mason fans get ready 😉 Now I am not so patiently waiting for a 5th book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was so much fun! I actually didn’t read the prior books but there is a quick plot summary of the previous ones at the very beginning, so I honestly didn’t feel lost at all! I am laughing that I jumped right into the middle of a series but I will be going back to read the books before this because I really enjoyed this. The characters were easy to root for, the mystery kept me thinking, and I enjoyed the reveals!
