From the first page, this book grips you and keeps you thinking. A definite page turner with twists and turns. Excellent one of the best read this year so far
It was fine. It was a quick read. There were some spooky moments. Overall, not super impressed and not a super unique storyline.
DS Kat Ballantyne joined the police force because her best friend was the last victim of a serial killer.
Now the killings have started again, and Kat is determined to catch the killer despite her superiors trying to convince her that it is a copy cat killer
During her investigation, she uncovers a lot of lies and feels that the investigation of the previous murders were mishandled.
An excellent police procedural/serial killer book!
I was gripped from the beginning. The mystery and twists will intrigue the reader and keep them totally hooked.
You will be kept guessing until the end.
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of a female lead in police procedurals, with glimpses into the personal lives of the characters.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the character of Kat.
It was nice to have a fairly normal lead character who's home life was not disintegrating around them.
Some of the plot lines I enjoyed more than other, one in particular I really wasn't sure about.
But there were definitely more positives than negatives in this book.
If Kat comes out with another story, I'd definitely like to read it.
Detective Kat Ballantyne is looking for a serial killer who has seemingly retuned after a 15 years gap, The 'MO' appears the same with the victims smelling of lavender from wheat bags.
Lots of twists, including a good friend of hers returning from the dead(!), but all in all a smooth, well written book with excellent characters EXCEPT for the usual male stereotype detective who is higher ranking than Kat. I am not sure if the book needed him?
Happy to read more from Mr Maslen.
Thanks to Net Galley and Amazon Publishing UK for the chance to read and review.
Fantastic book, I loved the characters especially the main characters, although I absolutely hated the awful Stuart Carver,, This book had just the right amount of police procedure, too much and its boring , too little and its amaterish and lazy, The story kept me guessing the whole time. I cant wait for the next book,
The mystery in this book kept me hooked til the very end. There were so many threads to follow that I was completely enthralled with the puzzle for the first two thirds of the book. I wish they would’ve exploded more in some of the storylines because there was so much to work with. The end came abruptly and left a lot unanswered. That being said, I’d read another one.
Can Kat crack the case? Is the serial killer back? Murder and intrigue keep this story moving. Realistic characters help in making this a good novel. At times, it reads like true crime. This talented author has written a cannot put down novel. I could not determine the ending easily because of the red herrings. And the story of her childhood frien.d. Where did that come from? Surprises. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher for this copy. One of my favorite go to publishers. Thanks to the gifted author.
Andy Maslen has several series on the go, so it was with interest that I approached the first in what will hopefully be a new series.
He doesn’t disappoint, the reader engaging with the main character, Kat Ballentyne, right from the start. The story hints to a good back story and runs at a good, steady pace, with the twists and revelations being fed in in good moments.
The book was a pleasure to read and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Great book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! This book had a bit of everything! It had high suspense, intrigue, murder, serial killer, mystery, revenge, great police work and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
A fine tale, written by a great storyteller. It just flows naturally and gets you hooked on the story before you realise it.
Kat is looking for a serial killer who leaves his victims with certain signs, such as wheat and lavender oil. Kat, a police woman by now, after she dropped out of university, knows that the killer is the one who killed her friend, Liv. But can she find the killer? A gripping tale that I had to finish. Well done Andy Maslen.
Wow! What an amazing book!!
Would love to read more from the author.
