Animals do not sparkle, so they steal/borrow sparkly things. (Although pigeons do have iridescent feathers). The rhyming was not consistant and it was quickly forgettable. Young children may enjoy it.
I loved the fun illustrations in this book and think that young readers will too. I agree with the publisher's description that it is best for very young readers, though I would have loved a rhyming scheme or consistent rhythm to provide an overarching theme connecting the words.
This was super cute. The art was adorable the story was a lot of fun. I could see my kids enjoying this.
5 stars
Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Shannon McNeill for the ARC! This review is voluntary and my own opinion.
“Sparkle, No Sparkle” was sweet in its simplicity, but the story could have used a little more background. As another reviewer mentioned, why are the animals in search of sparkly items? Why do they all end up on stage?
Despite this, the book was cute and my kids would enjoy it. The illustrations are adorable, which is always a big plus for me!
I wanted to love this book based on the premise, title, and cover, but I didn't. It was a cute story about some animals looking for sparkles and finding the sparkles. Overall I was confused. I thought the direction that the story would take would be one way, but it went another. The illustrations are adorable, but the story was lacking.
I appreciate being able to review this book in advance.
Sparkles, No Sparkles by Shannon McNeill - 4/5
Children's Fiction
The cover of Sparkles, No Sparkles is beyond adorable and completely gives me an idea of what the story is going to be about. Animals go out on the town for the night, some have sparkles some do not.
The story was a fun read with my children, 5 and 7 years old. We loved seeing all the animals and their fashion senses. We giggled and talked about the outfits.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada or the eARC.
This book is a cute idea with engaging pictures, but I couldn't really figure out the point. I probably will not choose to read this book w/ my little students!

Sparkles, No Sparkles is overall very cute and I feel would appeal to very young readers. The illustrations are cute and the wording is very simple and easy to follow. However, I’m not sure of the plot or point to the book? Animals are stealing sparkly clothing but not really returning them or learning anything.
I love books about critters, and if you ask anyone who knows me, I love sparkles, so this book seemed a perfect fit. Adorably illustrated, this book is about three cute critters who just want an evening at the theater... and maybe a moment or two in the spotlight. There's just one problem - they aren't getting in without any sparkles.
I enjoyed sharing this book with my five year-old son, reading about these cute critters, and their antics for just a bit of pizzazz, a bit of sparkle. We both giggled as the young usher reprimanded the animals over their methods for gaining said sparkles, and our giggles continued as the critters' antics grew, subsiding for a sweet conclusion.
Sparkles, No Sparkles is a cute, funny read that will definitely appeal to younger readers, and perhaps touch the hearts of those reading to them. I may be delving too deeply into this, but I was left with the sweet reminder sparkles are fun, but none of us should think we need to be anything more than we are. We all have our own sparkle.

Thanks NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Tundra Books for this cute but confusing book hahaha!
4/5 stars!
This storybook is all sparkly vibes, which is cute! But everyone steals the sparkly clothes??
The illustrations were adorable but story quite confusing, but not everything has to make sense lol.
Not gonna lie, I’m so confused. Is it really just about animals who want to sparkle and steal clothing to make them sparkle? I don’t know! But I do know, that I loved it! The illustrations are adorable, the book is easy to read, and I know my kids would like it!
Everyone needs a little sparkle in there life. What a cute little book to teach children that no matter who you are or what you have, that you sparkle. Great read along for little ones that want to be apart of reading a book. My Granddaughter is five years old and helped read along. Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books, and Shannon McNeill for the ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily and is my own opinion.

I did not understand this book. It has cute artwork, but there is no plot or explanation on why these animals, and usher, want sparkles. It's cute, but has no real depth or meaning behind it.
A very good and quick read. This will be great for classroom storyline as well as a good book to start teaching little ones to read.
The artwork is simple but there are tons of things to find on each page that a child could learn the words for.
This book is just so fun. I love the idea of everyone needing a little bit of sparkle. Kids are just going to love all the fun antics in this book. It will be quite a fun one to read for a story time. Thank you so very much to Penguin Random House and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy.
The illustrations are adorable and the story is short, but enjoyable. This story is great for a storytime because of the amount of words on a page. I can't wait to add this to the children's collection!
This was such a cute book! My kids and I loved the rhyming as well. My kids thought the animals were fun and cute and my kids always love sparkles!
This book is cute. I would rate it 3 1/2 stars. It’ll be a great read for a storytime. The rhyme is perfect for early readers, but not tongue twisting.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of "Sparkles, No Sparkles". All thoughts and opinions are my own.
So I am not gonna lie and sugar-coat it, I was very confused by this story. I am confused about many things, namely, why are the animals trying to get things that sparkle? What is their motive and why are they going to such lengths to get things that do? Where in the world do the other animals come from? Is there a traveling zoo?
The pictures are cute and fun which were this books saving grace. The bottom line, I am 30 years old and I don't understand.
This is a really fun book! As a Nana, I loved reading this with my sparkle loving grandkids! The illustrations were colorful and attention grabbing. Thanks #NetGalley
