A fast YA graphic novel about a girl who's college experience is nearly derailed when her financial aid falls through. The ingenuity she shows to find new aid is refreshing. I do wish she would have been honest with her parent rather than taking out loans, but I applaud her independence and hard work to get what she wanted. I also appreciated that when finally faced with the truth of the bad side of her dream school she didn't keep denying it, she fought to fix it.
This was fun and sweet and goofy, as expected from Ukazu. The illustrations are also in a style that’s fun and expressive I would read a whole series of this!
This was a delight. A little silly but with a lot of heart. I had a lot of fun reading this. For a short graphic novel, all the characters were well established.
A found family kind of story with a very diverse cast of characters. The main characters choice at the end didn’t quite fit for me, but this was overall a fun time.
Absolutely charming and funny story about a group of misfits at a fancy art school who form a softball team in the hopes of getting athletic scholarships. I support Ngozi Ukazu on Patreon, so I've been hearing about this book throughout its development and have been eagerly awaiting its publication. It doesn't disappoint! If you enjoyed Check Please, you'll also love Bunt!
Softball and financial aid. Not two subjects I would see put in the same story, but it works. The story is also about a band of misfits who come together to play a game they know nothing about, to end up fighting for what they believe in and making life long friendships. I will say that the story sometimes seems a little jerky, bouncing from character to character. There were times I had to go back and reread a page or two. Great graphics, all the same color as the fictional PICA University. Thanks NetGalley and First Second Books for the arc.
This was a really fun story with vibrant illustrations. I loved the unique premise and the cast of characters was funny and interesting. Highly recommend!
Really fun and sweet and beautifully drawn!! I loved Ngozi Ukazu’s Check Please series and I think she is so so good at telling college-set narratives.
