Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this ARC audiobook.

What a great audiobook. I don’t know what the physical book experience is like with this story but the audiobook is really rich! Great “podcast” chapters with podcast like music. Lots of atmospheric noises that really draw you in. I think the audiobook really brought this story to life.

The beginning of the book felt a tad slow - just due to some pacing and having to build up to the story but I can’t complain too much.

This was 10 hours of great audio material!

Thrilling twists, captivating characters, and a podcast experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Dark Corners is a must-read!
The audio was well executed and I enjoyed the podcast elements and sounds. The story is slow to catch your attention, but draws you in around 40%.

I want more Rachel Krall! I was so excited to be approved for an ARC of this book and couldn’t wait to dive in. I loved the Night Swim so I had high expectations for the sequel. Although it wasn’t as good as the.Night Swim, it was still a great book. I was sucked into the story from the beginning, and couldn’t figure out what was going to happen. I would have liked it to be a little more fast-paced. Some parts did seem to drag a bit, but I never lost interest in the story and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved getting more backstory on Rachel and a little bit of romance! Highly recommend listening to this one on audio. They did a fantastic job with the narration and the podcast element. I hope there are more books in the series as I would love to continue to learn more about Rachel, and see what she gets involved in next!

I loved all the twists and turns in this story, and I especially enjoyed the bit of romance amidst all the craziness. The involvement of an influencer that seemingly only exists in the social media world was a nice touch and I love when everything comes together in a totally unexpected way. I couldn't stop listening as the audiobook is so well done and now I need to read The Night Swim!

Dark Corners though the 2nd book in the Rachel Krall Series definitely works as a stand alone. I loved The Night Swim and eagerly awaited this the sequel. For me this was a different Rachel verses the one I met in book 1.

Rachel is called to Florida by the FBI after her name is mentioned by a convict long suspected of murder. Lacking evidence for a conviction or even charges, can Rachel uncover clues to the unsolved murders of young women.

Told from a couple view points made this an addicting read. I was lucky to get both the audio and digital arc. A road trip had me binge listen, I was am to finish in a 24 hour period. So worth it!

This was a wonderfully mysterious, suspenseful story. It showcased influencers in their glory (or rather addiction to social media). It was intricately woven with twists I didn't see coming and an ending that I liked.

The audio narrator was spot on, a pleasure to listen to. Both versions are available for preorder now with an August 8th release date.

My thanks to St. Martin's Press and Macmillian Audio for advanced copies in exchange for a honest review.

Though this is the second book in the series, it can stand on its own without having to read the first one. I really enjoyed the story of this book. There were surprising twists I wasn’t expecting and surprises along the way that kept this book interesting. Just when I thought I had figured something out, this story would take me in a completely different direction. I think for those looking for another Night Swim, this is not the same and I am glad. I liked how Rachel felt like a character that had grown from the first book and came into her own with this second installment. Without riveting away too much, I will say that this book is worth checking out even if you haven’t read the first one.

The narrator was amazing and I enjoyed the cast that was selected and how each person really brought the characters to life. They were the perfect narrators and the exact voices I had imagined for each character. Each narrator because the characters they were voicing and listening to the book made it easy to get sucked into this story.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this ARC

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC.

Story: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Narration: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Dark Corners is the second thriller starring famous podcaster, Rachel Krall. This time, she is drawn into a mystery about a famous influencer going missing and a suspected serial killer behind bars who had something to do with it. There is even a romantic aspect this time around!

I enjoyed catching up with Rachel and having a thriller set in the insane world of influencers. The mystery was quick and fun and had plenty of twists. The big draw for me with this series is the audiobook production. I love when a podcast element is really played up in the audiobook and this one really takes full advantage of it. Excellent narration. Excellent thrills. Loved it.

ALC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.75ish stars

This one was just okay for me. I didn’t initially realize that it was the second in a series, so I went back and read the previous book first; because I read them back-to-back, though, I found myself comparing the two stories quite a bit. I definitely liked the first one better and felt that this sequel didn’t quite live up to its predecessor. It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t as interesting to me. If there’s a third to the series, I’ll probably still want to check it out.

Terence Bailey, a soon-to-be-released convict suspected of multiple murders, receives a surprise visit from influential social media star Maddison Logan. After Maddison vanishes, the FBI turns to journalist Rachel Krall for help, leading her to delve into a perilous world of online rivalry and the dark secrets of an obsessed killer lurking on the internet.

Dark Corners is the second book in the Rachel Krall series and this can be read as a stand-alone. I loved The Night Swim so I was excited that we get to follow Rachel on a new investigation. Surprisingly, Dark Corners took a slower pace than I had anticipated. Nevertheless, I found the different perspectives captivating. Rachel, her podcast, and Thomas all had their distinct voices and the audiobook’s use of multiple narrators was well executed. The were a couple of parts that threw me off. First, the pacing felt off and the timeline of the crimes committed seemed excessively prolonged. I think the book could have been shortened as certain sections felt more like fillers rather than integral parts of the storyline. I found myself more drawn to the murder, suspects, and victims’ characters than in Rachel and the FBI agent she worked with. Rachel and Joe felt somewhat stilted and lacked depth which deterred my interest in them. On a positive note, the ending was unexpected and there were few of the twists I didn’t see coming. Overall, this was 3.5 stars, but I rounded to 4 stars on GoodReads.

I didn’t read the first one in this series so I don’t know what that one was about but this one was super interesting! It kind of dives into the lives of influencers. When an influencer goes missing they try to piece together where she might be but some things aren’t adding up. Rachel, a podcaster, finds herself investigating as well!

There is a man in prison about to get out who the police are trying to pin murders on before he gets out. He is a piece to the puzzle but not how you’d expect it. I like how Rachel finds out so much throughout the book.

There are a lot of different people in this book and it’s hard to keep track at times.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC audio edition of Dark Corners by Megan Goldin.

Just as exciting and immersive as her first, The Night Swim. And to my recollection, they did a great job maintaining the same cast as music as the first as well, making the audio edition a firm first choice as far as ways to consume.

What is not to love about this series, it's got everything we love in today's world. True crime podcasts, unlikely victims, vapid influencers, a steamy, slightly forbidden romance, twists and turns. It's modern day gold, all done with multiple narrators and music. So fun, fast paced, and dangerous!

Much like Night Swim, this audiobook was so enjoyable to listen to I kept forgetting it was—in fact—an audiobook and not a podcast. Megan Goldin is a genius for including the podcast component to her books. I kept listening and thinking, “I need to research this on Google” and then remembering this is fiction!

This book kicks off closely behind where Night Swim left off, with Rachel winding down from the rape trial. That doesn’t last long as she ditches the comfort of home for a unique opportunity to help out on a complex murder case. And when I say complex, I mean complex! There were a lot of moving parts throughout this plot and I loved it! I couldn’t stop listening. I had to listen closely to keep tabs on all of the information.

Rachel had an edge to her in this book, more so than the first book. This made sense to me given that she hardly had time to recover from the rape trial and everything that unraveled throughout. She really came into her own in this book, coming to her confidence and seeing herself as she should: a force to be reckoned with.

I am already so excited to see what Megan Goldin has in store for Rachel in the future (hopefully a book #3). I hope Rachel gets some R&R first!

Thank you to Netgalley, Megan Goldin, and Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of Dark Corners in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely devour anything Megan Goldin writes and I was so excited to once again get to hang out with Rachel Krall from The Night Swim. I truly love the podcast element in books and this one was no exception. I loved that Goldin brought in elements of life today (social media influencers, podcasts, social media brand events, etc) into this novel. I totally thought I had the book figured out about halfway through but of course I didnt and I was thoroughly pleased with the twist. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life for me and I believe the audio helped add to the overall storyline. This one needs to join your TBR and bookshelf when it comes out on August 8th! 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 for GR.

I’m disappointed in how much I didn’t connect with this story because I love Megan Goldin’s precious books! I can say that Megan is TERRIFIC at descriptions and laying out characters, though.

Refreshing mystery that had me reading with the lights on! I’m quickly becoming a fan of this author. I happened to have chosen this book for BOTM selection so I read interchangeably with the audiobook but I loved the narrator. Her voice is amazing!

Our favorite fictional true crime podcaster Rachel Krall is back — and this time she’s out of the courtroom and helping the FBI solve a disappearance.
The follow-up to The Night Swim, this story follows Rachel who is called to an FBI investigation in Florida where Terence Bailey, a man suspected in the murders and disappearances of multiple women but never charged, is about to be released. One of his last (and few) visitors is social media influencer Maddison Logan, but when she goes missing shortly after the visit, Rachel comes in to help, going undercover at an influencers convention (that can’t really be a thing, right??) to dig up info. As she gets closer to the truth, she learns the danger and true monster may be hidden in plain site.
While I preferred its predecessor’s constant mystery (ie never knowing who is really at fault until the end), this reveals pretty quickly who the bad guy is — but the mystery remains as to his connection and where the story will actually go. But unlike the predecessor, I much preferred this break from the courtroom. Great for fans of mysteries and thrillers.
As for the narrators, January LaVoy and Samantha Desz return, bringing back that same great dynamic from The Night Swim story narration and podcast recordings, while also now joined by André Santana.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. This comes out 8/8.

Excellent narration makes this book impossible to stop listening to. The second installment in the Rachel Krall series is even better than the first. A man that is about to be released from prison has the FBI working double time to keep him incarcerated. Even though Terrance Bailey was only jailed for breaking and entering, he is suspected of much worse. With the murders and disappearances of several young women staying unsolved, the police believe Bailey is to blame even though they have continued during his incarceration. Enter Rachel Krall, who goes undercover in the world of influencers, since they seem to be the ones being targeted. Excellent, impossible to put down thriller!

Not only is this story suspenseful and intensely written but I’m giving it 5 stars for the audiobook performance alone!

A missing influencer. A criminal and suspected serial killer just days away from prison release. An FBI investigation that leads to famous podcaster Rachel Krall. Suddenly, she becomes a target in this dangerous game with a murderer.

True crime podcaster Rachel returns to help find a missing influencer and as expected, I found Dark Corners to be just as entertaining as Night Swim, if not more (especially on audio.) This was so twisty, compelling and addicting! It’s the way crime fiction should be written. I was hooked on the suspense and intrigue; it held my attention from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed the social media influencer angle, even if those characters were mostly unlikeable. The live podcast segments were such a stunning addition to the present day plot. I was NOT expecting the reveal or ending and that always makes or breaks a story for me. I will always love reading the perspective from a serial killer and it was done SO WELL here. Fun fact: I learned of a medical condition I’ve never heard of, which was a nice bonus for a nerd like me.

The Florida backdrop makes this a perfect summer thriller. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend this book on AUDIO! 👏🏽 The narration and sound effects were chef’s kiss. I wish we could’ve gotten more of the romance worked in but maybe there’ll be more on that in future?! 🤞🏽

* This can be read as a standalone; you don’t need to read The Night Swim first.

I really hope we get more books from this Rachel Krall series!

He's almost out and she's gone missing...
Terence Bailey's sentence for breaking and entering is almost up. The police suspect him of murdering six women, but can they prove it? As his release day approaches, Madison Logan, a beautiful, young influencer with a huge following on social media, visits him unexpectedly, hours before she goes missing. Upon investigating her disappearance, the police find that Madison has no family, no friends, and noone seems to see her outside of her social media posts. Is she really who she says she is? After hitting a wall in their investigation, the FBI reluctantly reaches out for Rachel Krall's help. As Rachel goes undercover at an influencer convention, the police discover the body of a woman with a very distinct tattoo. Could Bailey have an accomplice helping him on the outside? Can Rachel help the FBI piece this puzzle together before someone else, or herself, turns up dead next?
After reading The Night Swim, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next Rachel Krall story. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was a little bummed to see a change for the worse in Rachel's personality and wasn't a big fan on the influencer storyline. It started off a little slow, but grew on me as it progressed, even though there was a lot going on at once. I really was really bummed to find out that Bailey Carr wasn't brought back for this audiobook, however, the narrators, Andre Santana, January LaVoy, and Samantha Desz made it fun to listen to! They portrayed the emotions of their characters beautifully. I also loved that the podcast episodes, with intro music and all, continued along with the phone calls and recordings that had a different quality of sound to them, making it more realistic and really added to the listening experience. I really hope this isn't the end of Rachel Krall!
I received a free copy of this book via Libro.fm, NetGalley, and Edelweiss+. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

As a lover of the night swim, I was so excited to get back into the true crime world with the second book in this series!

Although I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the night swim, it was still entertaining, even if parts of it were pretty far fetched. I’m pretty sure the FBI would not be calling a podcaster up to help with their investigation.

I wished there were more of the podcast sections in this one, but it was still twisty and kept me guessing! I didn’t guess how it all connected so I enjoyed seeing that play out!
